About June Wolfe

The Wolfe family has been farming in south Berkshire County since 1808 and on Wolfe Spring Farm since 2006. We are committed to stewarding the land and protecting the environment. We have raised four fabulous kids - a farmer, an electrician and two college students. We live in a solar-powered house behind the barns - close enough if you need us but out of sight.

June Wolfe purchased this farmhouse in 2006

Why June Wolfe chose Sheffield

Apple Cottage was built in 1840 by a local stonecutter who quarried marble nearby. (the fireplace mantel used to be part of the foundation). It has been owned by many local families. It is now protected by an Agricultural protection restriction. It is beautiful with great walks and views everywhere. Close enough to all the Berkshires has to offer but quiet and private.

What makes this farmhouse unique

This quiet well-appointed home sits at the entrance of a 54 acre farm on a country road. The original builder wisely situated it in the lee of a hill, so it is cool in summer (has air conditioning just in case) and sheltered from wind in the winter. It looks at the knoll to the north, the cliffs and a meadow to the east, orchard and pasture to the south and a sunset (from the deck or sunset deck) to the west. Rural and quiet, yet not far from anything and two hours from New York City.

Charming cottage and lovely hosts

  • 5 of 5

We were three painters. Each had our own room and bath -- perfect. Painting under the tiki hut at the river was just right--lots of shades of green and yellow. Kitchen outfitted better than my own. And pantry very well stocked. Lots of wine and laughter on the deck at dinner. The Wolfe family couldn't have been kinder. Fresh eggs and blueberries almost daily. Very comfortable and relaxing stay.

Beautiful, kind, peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Apple Cottage with my husband, our 2 year old, my in-laws, cousins and their 4 and 8 year old for Fathers' Day weekend. We were enormously comfortable. The house is beautiful, has old farmhouse charm, with fantastically updated bathrooms and kitchen. The beds and bedding were very comfortable. Our hosts were delightful and kind, surprising us with freshly picked strawberries and fresh eggs. Pictures don't do the house justice. The property is beautiful. I wish I could bottle up it's fragrance! Would go back in a heart beat. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Perfect place for a mini family reunion! The owners thought of everything that we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a place for several age ranges where we could hang out and cook and play games. We all had privacy when we wanted it but could easily gather together too. The farm fresh eggs and well stocked pantry made it so easy to get a good meal on the table. We were close enough to the ski area so we could come and go at all different times. The beds were super comfy and the bath amenities left us wanting for nothing! best VRBO we've been to. Would love to come back in the fall and see the leaves and wander some more. Such a pretty area. The owners were fantastic too.

Wonderful stay at Apple Cottage on Wolfe Spring Farm

  • 5 of 5

June and Jim are generous, dear owners! Their beautiful farm home was so comfortable, cozy and beautiful! We loved the lovely antiques, the history, the fresh eggs, and everything else. It was raining like crazy on our 1st night, but we were soooo warm and cozy with their beautiful fireplace and fabulous bedding! We only had 2 nights but we all slept like logs! We live in Indiana and drove up for our daughter's 31st birthday. She is a New Yorker (now) and loved everything! June and Jim have the kitchen equipped with eggs, muffins, coffee, milk, cream, butter, bananas and a very well stocked pantry with staples. We didn't know this and shopped before we arrived. Don't do this! I felt bad about all the food we left + the fresh eggs (they have chickens!) . It was only me, hubby and daughter on night 1. My daughter had one of her girlfriends on night 2. She slept on a lovely day bed. We could easily bring our boys and daughter in law next time, have plenty of room and have a blast! Just lovely and perfect! Thank you both so very much!
