Consistent Temperatures at 70 to 88 all year round temps. The rain is welcomed for a short cooling off, mostly near the mountain regions. Unless a tropical system is involved. Rain usually quickly passes to reveal the sun. This is especially the case in Makaha as it is shielded by the Waianae Mountain Range!

SPRING and SUMMER "in general" bring the most tranquil ocean tides and soft, warm ocean trade winds.

FALL and WINTER "in general" and seasonally our North & West beaches bring more consistent high wave action. Tourist, locals and surfers come for the Van's World Class Surfing contests and the famous "Eddie" which was spectacular in 2016. Waves are spectacular to watch at Makaha Beach, and north shores, Waimea Bay & Pipeline or Sunset. Caution to all swimmers:

Just 50 min. to the Honolulu Airport (outside rush hour), and to Waikiki. Haleiwa & North Shore just about and hour+.

*Peacocks Roam freely on this property as it is a Reserve for these beautiful peaceful animals.

Oahu's West side: families kick-back evenings and weekends are spent daily on the beach until sundown. Chill under the stars here to really get away from it all!

Our Guests prefer the serene Makaha location over Waikiki, time and time again!

Come see why. ~ Aloha

A Great Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

Janie was GREAT and so helpful! The property was great. We spent multiple evenings in the pool or hot tub and grilled by the pool with very friendly locals/neighbors. The boogie boards and snorkeling gear provided by Janie was perfect as the snorkeling at the local beaches was actually better than Hanauma Bay. There was a ton of information either provided by Janie or in our unit which we could read and it helped us decide what activities to do. This was a very budget friendly place to stay which allowed for money in the budget for a rental car to see every corner of the island during the week. The drive is a little far north up the coast but it was still worth it given the price and quality of stay. The Netflix and free wireless entertained my teenagers. It was great to be able to cook our own food during the week and save money on eating out. Also, it was nice to get away from all the crowds and traffic at the end of the day. The mountains around this property are beautiful and the peacocks are a sight to see. We spent time hiking, snorkeling, food tasting in the North Shore, a Dole Plantation visit, Pearl Harbor, and the Ko'olina lagoons. There was a General Store down the road 20 minutes or so which was a great place to get shaved ice rather than driving all the way to the North Shore to get it. If you or the kids do need a quick cheap meal, there is a McDonalds close by as well as a few other fast food places. Overall, we recommend this place and would stay again. Especially if you have a rental car and want to explore the island and do different activities like we did. And did I mention Janie was GREAT?!?!?!

Beautiful property. Attentive owners, very available.

  • 4 of 5

Gated community, quiet well kept. Peacocks, chicken with chicks scattered throughout property. Management kind, effeicent. Lost electricity in the whole complex in the first few hours we were there. Off for ~6 hours and management said it happens about once a year. More of a rural area which was what we were seeking and an amazing beach close by.

Owner's Response: Joshua, Thank you for taking the time to review our Makaha Get Away. Very glad you enjoyed relaxing, chilling at the hot tub, and beaches, while staying at our condo, even with traffic. The drive is worth it; when you are greeted with sunshine, quiet and peaceful, uncrowded, beautiful West Oahu beaches. You'll feel you have the beach to yourself. No parking issues and quiet surroundings away from city noises. This is the draw that brings so many of our guests back every year. Mahalo for everything!

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This place was fantastic for several reasons: everything that you can think of needing at your house is available for you to use, from Ziploc bags and aluminum foil to laundry soap, scuba gear, tennis racquets, beach toys, you name it.

There is a binder located in the unit to give you lots of information on Places to go. When here, it feels like you're home. We had 2 adults and 3 kids and found that it had plenty of space, cooled off quickly, and was quite comfortable and clean. The owners are really friendly and helpful, easy to contact, and offered great suggestions. The price is great for the value.

Only a few things to note. The area of Oahu is of lower income, thereby a bit sketchy at times, but still pretty safe. The apartment itself is really safe, located in a gated community. The deck/lanai is not big enough to sit on, which is a bummer, the swim beaches near here do have some homeless camps, the grocery stores over here are a bit ghetto, and getting back in to this area between 3-7 is intense for traffic. But honestly, we had a great time! We shopped in Kapolei and Pearl City, timed the traffic right, and had a great time.

The different sides of the island are so diverse against each other that it is a must that you stay on both sides of the island and honestly if you're going to stay in West Oahu there is no better choice, sincerely!

Loved the "EXTRAS"!!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was great - lots of "extras" we wouldn't have had in a motel: beach chairs and towels, snorkeling gear, lots of condiments and cookware. It really helped cut food costs, which left us more $$$ for other activities!! Thanks, Janie and Sonny, for the coffee and chocolates!! I'd definitely stay here again! The area was gated, so we felt safe, and were able to use the pool when we wanted. Lots of local information was provided to help us make the best choices!

A nice quiet getaway

  • 4 of 5

The vacation home was very clean and had just about everything we needed to fulfill our vacation needs. The security was a nice feature of the property. My family and I always felt safe at night. The local beach was right down the road and very much a family beach. We look forward to our next visit.
