First of all while securing parking passes, we were frowned upon because we didn't book through the Sand Dunes. Secondly. When you have 3 small children and they see a water park on premises and they are not allowed to use the facility it's heartbreaking. At first glance of the room itself we had a good vibe, but whoever does the cleaning is getting paid WAY TOO MUCH for their services, according to what we paid. There was crud under the bed skirt and half eaten candy. Handle on the microwave was broken, but thankfully we saw it before anyone used it and broke it completely off. My daughter tried using the hair dryer in the master bath and it started sparking, so we unplugged it. If you left in your vehicle at any time, there was a very good chance you would not have a place to park when you returned. The elevators have no ventilation and out of 4, only 3 worked. That's including the service elevator. The young man who worked at the River City bar near the water park was hands down the nicest person we dealt with. He makes a mean Bloody Mary and is very thoughtful.
We stayed in the unit from 6/23-6/27 and was extremely disappointed with our stay. This condo was cheaper than some of the others and for good reason, pay the extra money for somewhere else. I called ahead to make sure the unit was actually oceanfront as the picture was a little misleading and was assured it was. It is not. You can see the ocean but the unit is in a building across a parking lot with another building in between it and the ocean, obstructing most of the views. The beds and linens seemed very old and uncomfortable. One of the two hairdryers was broken. One room was missing a door handle. The washer and dryer did not work. The dish drains kept splashing up smelly water whenever anyone took a shower and random other times which was loud, dirtied any dishes, and which smelled the unit for an hour at a time. The last straw was the electric code box quit working out second to last night at 11pm and we were unable to get a hold of anyone and had to pay $265 for a locksmith. In the morning the lady sent someone that may have been her son which was no help. The owner has yet( five days later) given me any contact or returned calls, emails, or texts about refunding the locksmith or for the night we missed in our room as we were unable to get in until 4:30am. After this last event half of our guests were over the condo altogether and went home a day early. Don't be fooled by the good owner communication before your visit. Once you have paid and are there she will not communicate. Homeaway has been contacted and we are submitting forms for legal reimbursement. My advice is to stay away from this unit and the uncooperative owner.
From the uncomfortable chairs, threadbare carpeting and analog TV's in the bedrooms, you get exactly what you see in the description for this property. Save for the flat screen TV in the living room, this place hasn't been updated since the 80's. What we didn't expect was the broken handle on the microwave, extremely slow drain in the master bathroom shower, no door knob on one of the bedroom doors, the non-working washer (found that out the hard way) and the somewhat less than clean condition of the floors.
Having typed all of that, I must say that I wasn't entirely disappointed with our stay. Like I said, given the pictures of the property, the limited descriptions, the fact that it was still available as late as we booked, no reviews and the low price, we weren't expecting much, and that's exactly what we got.
I would not stay here again, but if you are looking for a reasonably priced '3 hots and a cot' set-up just steps from the beach, this could be the place for you.
