Garfield, CO (also known as Monarch), elevation 9500', is six miles east of the Continental Divide surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest. Garfield originated as a mining town in the early 1800's. In the latter part of the century a fire swept through town leaving only 3 original buildings, The School House, a log cabin and the Courthouse/Jail which is now known as the Old Timer Cabin. Scattered throughout the area you will find foundations of original mining cabins from 200 years ago.
We had a wonderful time at the 1st Chair Chalet. From the outside the cabin does not look that nice but the inside is updated and so cozy. The hot tub was a big hit along with the running river behind the house. It is the perfect get away cabin and only 5 minutes from Monarch. If your looking for a nice quiet get a way place this is it.
Beautiful and the stream is just about as perfect as you can get expecially when setting in the hot tub. Loved it and will be back !!!
This was our 2nd time at the 1st chair chalet and we had another great time. We really enjoy this cabin and have had some good times here. There is plenty of space to spread out. We made some home made meals, dipped into the hot tub and watched a family movie. Of course, we skied during the day at the mountain which is great for our kids. Thank you!
The cabin was clean and well stocked and easy to find. Our family (of 5) needed a place to retreat and be together and the cabin was a perfect fit. The open first floor was perfect for games and reading. We loved the wood burning stove which put out enough heat to forget how cold we got on the slopes.
Monarch was also a gem, great skiing, no lines, and super affordable with A kind and helpful staff.
Perfect cabin for monarch mountain getaway. The hot tub on the porch with the running creek in the background was amazing after a full day on the slopes. The house had everything and all we needed to bring were groceries and our ski gear. We will be back!
