Garfield, CO (also known as Monarch), elevation 9500', is six miles east of the Continental Divide surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest. Garfield originated as a mining town in the early 1800's. In the latter part of the century a fire swept through town leaving only 3 original buildings, The School House, a log cabin and the Courthouse/Jail which is now known as the Old Timer Cabin. Scattered throughout the area you will find foundations of original mining cabins from 200 years ago.
Our family loved this home, Our 2 daughters ages, 11 and 13 had a blast. The hot tub was awesome, the wood burning stove with wood provided added a special touch. The sound of the rushing spring below was priceless! The owner was awesome and always responded quickly. Thank you Bruce for a wonderful vacation spot!
Perfect little cabin in the woods. Kitchen was stocked with EVERYTHING we needed. Hot tub was AWESOME after our ski day at Monarch. We were 2 couples with 2 babies. Only a few minutes drive to Monarch for a great day on the hill. Snow conditions were excellent! Thanks for a great couple days away!
We stayed over a long weekend at the cabin with our 3 kids and the cabin couldn't have been more perfect. Everything was very clean and the host had everything set up for us. We had a nice fire every morning, hung out in the hot tub and even built a sledding track using the sleds they had provided. It snowed and snowed while we were there and we had an epic time on the ski hill. We will definitely be back, enjoyed it immensely. Thanks to the gracious host.
My wife and I were hoping for a clean, comfortable mountain cabin to rent while enjoying Monarch ski area and snowshoeing with our dogs in the area.
We couldn't have been more pleased with 1st chair chalet. My review my be biased by the 6-8 feet of snow that dumped the days prior to our rental, and made our stay that much sweeter. Extra thanks to Bruce for getting the rental ready during a legit snow emergency. Locals were dealing with road closures, and one of the heaviest dumps I've seen in my 25+ years in Colorado.
The pictures on website don't do the cabin justice, simple, clean, classic cool mountainhaus style in spades. Great hot tub, beautiful wood burning stove, clean and comfy cabin, everything worked perfect.
Thanks again Bruce, we'll be back for sure!
