The view of the ocean from the living room was breath-taking. The home was exactly what we needed to spend the holidays together. We were able to accommodate 9 adults and 3 children. The kitchen had everything needed for preparing all our meals and being able to seat us comfortably. It was a short walk to the pier and the downtown area and an easy drive to the elephant seals in San Simeon. We would consider using this property again In the future.
We arrived and quickly met Doug and Elaine. Tour of the home included info from Elaine on the history of the property, which we enjoyed.
The listing description was accurate, property clean and very well maintained. Customer service wasn't necessary for problems but Doug answered quickly when I called with questions. We would certainly recommend the home and the location. The only caution is the weather that is often cool in August, which was fine with us. Others might need to check weather to be sure to bring jackets as needed. We liked the Pieman's breakfast and Schooner's. We liked being close to Morro Bay, Cambria and San Luis Obispo. The farmers market we went to in Morro Bay was great! We forgot to go the the Cayucos one. We spent a lot of time enjoying being together in the living and dining rooms.
The home was spaceous enough for us, 3 couples plus our grandson of 22 months. The home was clean and well appointed, the kitchen full of cooking/dining items and the big table was a hit. There is a handy 2nd refrig in the garage, and the bbq was very easy to access. The 4th bath wasn't really needed on this trip but a nice addition for larger groups. The pool table was a hit with all! Having the view of the ocean was perfect and the short walk to the beach is fun and separate from traffic. It was great to be the last house so close to the end of "our" part of town and yet to be so near the pier and the short walk to shops and restaurants. It was fun to order a gluten free pie from the Pieman - a hit with all of us! and our last night at Schooner's for dinner was a treat. The only reason we wouldn't return is if the family decides to continue exploring other locations. We all really like Cayucos! Thanks Doug and Elaine! Jan, Jack and family PS Our grandson was very happy to see a dolphin, and seal in the bay and crab on the beach!
My family took our first vacation since my husband passed away. We have been coming to Cayucos since the mid 80's and he before as a child with his parents. We all love coming to Cayucos and have stayed in many wonderful homes. The Gathering Place is a lovely home and easily accommodated our family of 7. It's location was perfect for us. We all had a great time. Mr. Bitter is a very welcoming, friendly and caring person and helped to make us feel very welcome. It was the perfect home for our transition back to Cayucos without my husband. Should we all come again we would enjoy staying at the Gathering Place.
My family held a reunion at the Gathering Place recently. It was perfect for the occasion. The house was nicely arranged to take advantage of the beautiful ocean view. The owners were friendly and everything in the house was in good working order . The pool table was a big hit and a focal point of much activity. Best of all, everything was within walking distance – the pier, dining, shopping, beach, etc. I highly recommend staying here when in the area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.! A great beach is right across the road. The kitchen is amazingly well stocked with dishes, utensils, etc. Their was a glitch with the broiler when we first got there and Doug had it fixed the very next day. How's that for responsiveness? One block from shops, coffee, eating places in one direction and other side of house has a wonderful big field by a creek to explore. Our family pooch was in heaven! Cute little fenced in front yard. Our family loved it
The Gathering Place lived up to its name. Our family of 10, ranging in age from 1 to 88 years, fit comfortably at the large dinning table and the living area was large enough to never feel crowded, even when we were all in the same room. The upstairs office/bedroom was perfect for Great-grandma, no need for her climb up or down the stairs to get to her room. The deck was a great place to sit and relax outside or watch the sun set. The kitchen was well stocked with a multitude of pots and pans, serving dishes and dinnerware. There were ants upstairs in the dinning area and around the sliding glass door, and in the downstairs shared bathroom but the ant spray found under the kitchen sink eliminated the problem. A suggestion would be to have liquid dish soap stocked for washing dishes by hand. We did bring a baby gate to keep the little one from falling down the stairs.
