Villa La Cascade is a charming cut stone Languedoc villa with private pool in the beautiful South of France. The villa is set in an award winning development of a small number of lovely houses built in the traditional style overlooking the pretty village of Durban and its medieval castle. Enjoying great privacy, this lovely house sleeps 6 adults in 3 en-suite bedrooms, each with stunning views over the unspoilt countryside. Complete with private garden and magnificent deck, Villa La Cascade is the perfect Languedoc villa for an idyllic holiday in this undiscovered yet easily accessible part of Mediterranean France.
Beautifully appointed to the highest standards and fully equipped with a every modern convenience, this is a perfect home from home in which to enjoy the unique pace and ambience of Languedoc. A short drive from airports at Carcassonne and Perpignan the surrounding area has a wealth of attractions.
Lovely garden, Wi-Fi access, iPod docking stations, home cinema system and hair dryers all provided.
The Villa and Surroundings: Located in the heart of the Corbieres, Villa La Cascade is one of a small group of villas overlooking beautiful hills that stretch north of the Spanish border and sweep inland from the Mediterranean. This is an area steeped in history and blessed with a near perfect climate. Enjoying over 300 days of sunshine annually, the area benefits from long hot summers and brief, mild winters. Vineyards, ancient monasteries and medieval castles dot the landscape whilst the golden beaches of the Mediterranean are just a short drive from this Languedoc villa.
Villa La Cascade has views over the village of Durban and its medieval castle. The village is a typically southern French affair, with café, supermarket, bank and pharmacy, and of course the local cave cooperative. On the ground floor this Languedoc villa comprises an entrance hall, fully equipped kitchen, sitting room (with Wi-Fi,iPod docking station and home cinema system), cellar, guest WC and two en suite double bedrooms. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with en-suite.
The Pool & Garden: The private pool and garden provide stunning views in every direction. This Languedoc villa has an outdoor kitchen complete with built in barbecue – just perfect for lazy wining and dining in the gorgeous surroundings. At the far side of the pool area is a table and chairs with wonderful views over the valley and vineyards below and the hills of Languedoc across the valley. There's comfortable garden furniture and sun loungers, an outdoor solar shower and a range of fruit trees and a number of secluded seating areas.Should you decide not to leave the garden for the duration of your stay you will not be disappointed!
Guests always remark on the beautiful views from Villa La Cascade. One of the best things about a Languedoc holiday is the scenery, and we've made sure that the garden makes the most of it. The views from the pool area are gorgeous and if you want a little bit more peace and quiet, we've also created a hidden seating area tucked out of site just perfect for one or two!
Bedrooms & Bathrooms: Importantly all three bedrooms at Villa La Cascade have en-suite bedrooms and there's also a separate WC on the ground floor. All bedrooms have lovely fresh linen, beautiful furniture, pretty throws (and for cooler nights in the off season, nice fluffy duvets to complement the central heating if needed).
One of the ground floor bedrooms has a bath with shower enclosure en-suite whilst the other has a spacious shower. Upstairs the bedroom also has an en-suite with shower. We know that you want to be sure that when you book a villa holiday that you can be certain that you’ve made the right choice. Time and money are precious and it’s important to be confident that the facilities in your Languedoc holiday home rental are what you would expect. We feel exactly the same and that’s why Villa La Cascade is so well laid out, furnished and equipped. The bedrooms and bathrooms are pretty and comfortable and as you’d expect at home- the fittings are of the highest quality.
I love France. That just about sums it up in three words. So when we had the opportunity to create a home in Languedoc we jumped at the opportunity. We love the scenery, the history and culture, the people and their sense of place and the great food and wine and in the case of Languedoc, the unpublicised, unspoiled environment and the sense that this is a region still waiting to be discovered. I'm passionate about art in all its forms and am always busy planning the next expedition - whether it be a gallery or an exhibition. And its not just about culture - the beach or a castle or a pretty little village is equally appealing and sometimes just lying on the terrace with a good book is just perfect. I also love food and cooking and a visit to the market in nearby Narbonne to plan a few menus for the days ahead really is one of Languedocs greatest pleasures. As for wine - well there's still so many little vineyards and great cooperatives to visit and sample that I'll surely never get through them all. I also love helping people plan their visit. Whilst many of our guests are happy to explore with little prior knowledge sometimes one or two little tips can make all the difference. I'm equally happy to go into quite a bit of detail to help plan the perfect holiday.
Valerie Deighan purchased this villa in 2003
The idyllic views are what captivated me most. Firstly of the castle which is such a reminder of all the history. And when you walk out onto the terrace at the back of Villa La Cascade there's the most beautiful vista of the Corbieres hills. Guests always comment on how fabulous a picture it is to wake up to and enjoy. Because we spend so much time here outdoors, I think it really matters to have something gorgeous to look at. The garden is also very important to me - so I have done a lot of work to make sure it is a private, well looked after space to enjoy. In the villa - all the rooms are en-suite which matters to us, friends and guests. And because I love cooking I like the fact that there is a big kitchen that's well equipped. Even if its just a simple salad to enjoy at the shaded table outside its important to me to have the room and the equipment to make life easy in the kitchen.
Beyond the villa itself, it was also important to have all the benefits of the countryside but also to be able to walk into the village for a baguette at the boulangerie or maybe something more substantial at the great supermarket - only a ten minute stroll away (and to sneak into Chez Prano on the way back for a cafe au lait or maybe something stronger!). A little further afield we wanted to be near the beach (30 minutes) a wide choice of towns and villages to explore and in terms of travel and logistics - a wide choice of airports not too far away (and access to the great French motorway network). Finally - this really feels like the real France - Languedoc is so undiscovered so if you are looking to immerse yourself in the France away from the tourist hot-spots but with still loads to do then I think this is it!
There are lots of lovely places to stay all over the South of France. However the best thing about Villa La Cascade (and I hope you can get a sense of this from reviews, photographs and descriptions) is a really strong combination of a high quality, well maintained and cared for property, magnificent views, peace and quiet, easy access to a lovely village and easily reached from wherever you live - whether by air or road. When you add the huge range of things to see and do, I think (despite my bias!) that it's hard to beat. Of course if you want to sit back and do absolutely nothing but rest and take it easy - its a really good choice too.
We get a lot of repeat guests and an increasing number of others who have stayed on the basis of recommendations and that's a strong endorsement too. Regardless I'm always happy to share my love for Languedoc and my local knowledge to help plan a memorable holiday.
We were horrified to find on our arrival at this property that it is not a villa, but a house in a modern residential conurbation with 15 other houses. The owners have in fact removed the number 7 from the property address (renaming it Villa La Cascade) to give the misleading impression this is a stand-alone villa. This meant of course, that you are within earshot of neighbours etc, so the house is not really private at all. Equally, we found the property did not meet its claims to be a "luxury" residence or "provide everything" needed. One major oversight is the lack of any shade on the terrace, there were no parasols, nor awning, meaning that we were unable to enjoy the terrace in the sun. Nor were there any fans or air conditioning. The welcome pack omitted to provide basics such as milk, coffee or bread to tide us over to the next morning, and there was lack of essentials such as loo roll. Also, much of the villa furnishings are now old and tatty, for instance the pool cover cannot be used because it is so dirty and rusty, and the pool decking is worn down to the bare wood. Also, the washing machine did not work properly. And finally, the area is not populated with the high end restaurants as claimed on the website, in fact during our stay we often found ourselves driving 15 kilometres just to get chicken and chips. In short this property is grossly over-priced and represents extremely poor value for money.
We spent a lovely week in this peaceful and relaxing villa. The views from the garden across the hills were gorgeous, as was the garden itself with lots of scented lavender plants and the sound of birds. With a great outdoor eating area plus terrace with pool, it was very quiet and private too.
The villa was very clean and well furnished with all the necessary appliances and lots of thoughtful extra touches such as adapters, ipod docking stations, and even hot water bottles for the colder months! The bedrooms were particularly pretty and the linen was of good quality. Even the pillows were comfortable – not something that can be said about all French hotels and houses!
This is a beautiful house in a great location. It’s a short walk down to the village with the castle, local shops and bar. There are many gorgeous hamlets and villages within an easy drive of the villa with vinyards all the way! A perfect place for a wine tasting holiday! If that’s not your thing, there are beaches, amazing castles, markets, and much more……
Valerie was very kind and accommodating and Jeanne, who met us and showed us around the property, was lovely too. We’ve stayed in many properties in France but this was definitely the best and we hope to return some day.
We enjoyed a wonderful week in this stunning villa with beautiful uninterrupted views of the Languedoc . A real gem , every detail has been carefully considered and presented - from the fully equipped kitchen (a foodies dream!) to lovely furnishings , beautiful bed linen and private terrace and pool area . La Cascade offers the prefect base to explore the surrounding area , from vineyards to beaches to markets , or just to relax by the pool and soak up the view .
An exceptional place to stay - Thank you for a fabulous week !!
Villa Cascade was all that was promised and then some.
This property was very well equipped so if you like to cook regional food when you travel you will especially appreciate the kitchen. The grounds are beautiful and the home tended to with care. Although we enjoyed the beautiful weather in this part of France almost daily if we did encounter the odd one that was a bit cooler or damp we were quite content to curl up in the wonderful comfort of Villa Cascade with a book, some local wine and plans for dinner at home that night.
Wonderful little villages are just a few turns on the winding roads that are typical of this area, superb local wines and an outstanding 3 star Michelin restaurant just minutes away (be sure to bring your appetite) make this a lovely destination. There is so much to see and do in the area including the Mediterranean, Spain, the canals, Carcassonne and discovering the local history to name a few but know that a car and willingness or comfort with driving the small roads is essential to discover all that is accessible.
Our stay was for one month from the end of the first week in October to the end of the first week in November and this already quiet region is even more quiet at that time. Finding a selection of local restaurants that were still open was a bit of a challenge without driving a fair bit so the beautiful market in Narbonne and the Villa Cascade kitchen was appreciated that much more. Great layout for a family or couples traveling together.
David, Valerie and Sara (their Durban contact) were both professional and wonderful to deal with at every turn and we would not hesitate to recommend this lovely property to anyone or in fact find ourselves returning!
We would all like to thank you both very much for the use of your beautiful villa. We all gave it 10 out of 10. It had everything we needed and it was very clean and beautifully presented. The weather was fab and it was a very peaceful location. The lavender was at its best alive with bees and butterflies. I would recommend it to anyone for a wonderful way to unwind. Thank you again. Best wishes Brenda.
This is a really beautiful house in a great location and it ticked so many of the boxes for our holiday. For starters the villa is so lovely and the photos barely do it justice. It’s very well furnished, nice and spacious and has everything you’d need. It was also spotlessly clean and we were made very welcome on our arrival.
Valerie was also very helpful in answering all our questions in advance and the directions and check in were all highly professional.
The villa location is excellent – just a short walk to the village, easy to get to from a range of motorways and airports and there’s loads to do in the area. More than anything though, the views from the house are just gorgeous. We really think we chose well and we spent a lovely fortnight admiring probably the best view from a holiday villa we’ve ever experienced. We agreed that France in the imagination and the real thing are sometimes quiet different but this was the real south of France!
We flew in to Carcassonne for our holiday. As a base for Narbonne and the coast Villa La Cascade is ideal and the little villages in the area are all very pretty. The house has wifi, the bedrooms are en-suite and outside the seated dining areas are a great place to relax and take in the scenery. When we were there it was hot and sunny and the garden was a real haven with great views of Durban Corbières castle – the old fortress is just like something out of the middle ages!
If you are looking for a really relaxing holiday in higher standard of accommodation than normal (and in a convenient location) with outstanding views than Villa La Cascade really does have it all and we would recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing break.
This Languedoc villa with pool is set in one of the most dramatic landscapes in Europe. Located in the heart of the picturesque Corbieres hills, Villa La Cascade is just perfect for either an activity packed Languedoc holiday or a relaxing getaway. Within a short distance there are the ancient monasteries at Lagrasse and Fontfroide, medieval castles at Queribus and Peyrepertuse, the historic walled city of Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi meandering through the countryside north of the hills.
Nearby, the thriving market towns of Narbonne and Beziers provide a wide range of shops and services, and the city of Perpignan offers a vibrant mix of influences – more Catalan than French in atmosphere. Swimming and wind-surfing are available in the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean at Cap Leucate , just 30 minutes away. The snowy peaks of the Pyrennees rise to the south and a range of winter sports activities are available in ski resorts only a 2 hour drive from this Languedoc villa
