About Rich & Melanie Madden

We live next door to the rental property but it is very private and we respect our guests privacy. There are woods on the other side with winter views of the lake. If there is ever any need, we can quickly be of assistance. Since we are dog lovers, your pets are welcome also.

Rich & Melanie Madden purchased this house in 1957

Why Rich & Melanie Madden chose Lake Lanier

We have remodeled my Grandfather's cabin with updated amenities and furnishings that you will surely appreciate as appropriate for lakeside living. We have a dual zoned central heat and air, 3 full sized bedrooms and 1 full bath located between. A 4th bedroom was converted to a laundry room with a full sized washer and dryer. There is a 1/2 bath located next to the living area downstairs by the screen porch and patio. The screen porch area has rockers and a swing with ping-pong for hours of fun and relaxation. The spacious patio has an outdoor fire pit, picnic table and chairs for family and friends to gather and share the fun. The private dock is just that-a private dock for your use and no sharing with the owner! It has a single slip, sundeck and lounge chairs. The canoe and small kayak are for our guests use also. The deep water at the dock guarantees enough water for year round use.

What makes this house unique

On the Lake, centrally located, close to shopping, restaurants, and 3 grocery stores within 5 miles.

Perfect getaway cottage

  • 5 of 5

I wish we had had more time to spend at the cottage since we really enjoyed our stay of three nights. The house was very roomy and comfortable and was decorated in classy, lake-house decor. The property and house were both well maintained and clean. We enjoyed cooking in the well-stocked kitchen and using the grill. There was so much to enjoy that the tv was never turned on! Lakeside we relaxed on the dock (plenty of both shade and sun), fed the geese and fish, swam, floated and kayaked. The teenage girls enjoyed the relaxing time outside, playing ping pong, and YES! - the wifi works perfectly (even at the dock.)

Melanie and Rich were exceptionally hospitable. It's quite clear that guest comfort is a top priority for them. We really appreciated how pleasant and accommodating they were. They are the kind of owners that go above and beyond, which is what we look for in vacation rental properties. I look forward to visiting the cottage in the future, and I would highly recommend the cottage for families, friends, couples, etc.

Quiet peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four adults and two kids (ages 7 and 3) loved our stay here. The house layout is great with two large bedrooms for adults and twin beds in 3rd bedroom. One small note-- there is only one shower and no bathtub, which was fine. The main living areas are downstairs, so it was easy for the kids to sleep while adults were still awake. There are lots of nice touches-- games, spices in pantry, etc. that make it clear the owners care about their guests. The dock is great, very deep water and a fairly secluded spot on Lanier that felt safe to swim in. There wasn't much passing boat traffic. We enjoyed jumping off the dock and tooling around in the provided canoe and kayak. We will happily return in the future!

Thanksgiving at the Lake

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time celebrating Thanksgiving at your cottage on beautiful Lake Lanier. The cottage was very clean and well equipped. The kitchen had all we needed to prepare our Thanksgiving dinner. We totally enjoyed the firepit and making S'Mores. Thanks for allowing us time at your cottage.

Great property...sensitive owner

  • 3 of 5

The property was very nice and the accommodations were very comfortable. The dock on the lake was a main attraction. You can fish off it or swim in the lake. There is a kayak and a canoe you can tool around in too. In short, the facilities were great. The only thing that concerned us a little was that there were notes posted up all around the house. The owners (who live next door) are very organized and the notes are for the most part helpful. However, the notes did send a slight signal that they were nervous about guests messing up their place. Our interactions with the owners when on site were very nice though, quelling those fears. However, once we left the property we got a phone call from one of the owners who was very frustrated because my daughter took linens out from a box that was labeled “For Housekeeping Only”. She has lots of baby dolls and she must have ignored the note (she is 6) and pulled out the sheets/quilts to make them palettes on the floor. The substantive issue was that by opening these sheets she caused several extra loads of laundry. I offered to pay for the extra laundry out of the deposit and she accepted. The issue I have is not with the payment, but the tone during the phone call. I had to spend several minutes listening to her explain to me how upsetting this was. That phone call changed our plans to book again. My sense is that if you are vacationing as a couple or have older kids you will do just fine. If you have young kids (especially more than one young child) and want to have a relaxing time I would be cautious with this rental.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the comments about the amenities, we do all we can to make a very comfortable and accommodating cottage. Yes, we have attractive notes on the refrigerator that outline items from some of the experiences we have had. At the top of the "Cottage Care" note, right away we mention how we "hate" to post signs. These include not eating on beds or in bedrooms, please do not flush anything in the toilets except toilet paper, please do not redecorate or rearrange the furniture, please place trash in the correct trash can which are marked; one for bagged trash and one for loose items (we include that it is no fun to pick out icky stuff by hand). We even offer to recycle if the guest separates items for us. We also answer the frequent "what do we need to do when checking out" questions. As for notes all over the cottage, we also have a note exiting the front door advising we live in a neighborhood and to please observe the speed limit as our neighbors walk, bicycle and drive their golf carts on our little street. We apologize for your discomfort in reading these notes, but as an owner these are issues we have felt a need to address. We have had many families with children stay at our cottage and these very families have been repeat visitors. We even had a family with a toddler, rent for an entire month as they were expecting a baby and gave birth at a local hospital. What a treasure it was when we had a newborn infant at the cottage! We enjoyed your children and were so happy to let your boys fish in our boathouse, share our personal kayak and help them dig up worms for bait. Your sweet birthday girl made a surprise visit with a birthday balloon. She loved playing with the black Labrador beanie baby that was in our toy basket for children to enjoy. Yes, Melanie was very sensitive regarding the fact that all the items in a Rubbermaid box that clearly is labeled with "Housekeeping Only" had everything taken out of it and our housekeepers were going to have to do a quick turn around for our next guests. We could not tell which items were clean or dirty and we pride ourselves that all sheets and all blankets are clean and not reused from one guest to the next. The small fee covered the extra housekeeping charge for their extra time. There are so many wonderful homes on the lake and we are certain you will find a wonderful home for your next visit to Lake Lanier.

Beautiful Cottage on Lake!

  • 5 of 5

One of the nicest places we have ever stayed!! The cottage is simply beautiful....everything from the décor, cleanliness & stocked with everything you would ever need. It also has a huge laundry room and all the bedrooms were so cozy & the beds were really comfortable. The cottage is nestled in a wooded area & so private and peaceful...the pictures are pretty but in person its even more so. We had so much fun hanging out on the dock by lake & thank you Rich and Melanie for providing all the fun stuff to go with it...canoe, kayak, fishing poles & noodles ect...our girls (12 & 17) had a blast! We all did! We were only here a few days and are already trying to figure out when we can get back to this lovely place and spend more time & feel very lucky to have found this hidden gem on Lake Lanier. Rich and Melanie are wonderful and have provided a beautiful place to vacation & were available if we had any questions. We have already told our friends and family what a great place this is & would recommend it to anyone. Cannot wait to go back.

Fantastic place!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for hanging out and relaxing. We spent most days swimming in the water off the dock. It's deep enough to dive or jump into the water and in a quiet cove so you don't have to worry about boats zipping by all the time. There are a lot of other things to do in the area like hiking, going into Atlanta, etc. The cottage is very nicely kept and well-stocked with everything you need. Rich and Melanie are great and very responsive. I would definitely recommend this place!
