Guestbook comments from the owner

This house was perfectly setup and accommodated for our family of four. There was plenty of space for the kids to spread out and not be on top of each other, and my wife and I were able to enjoy our own space to enjoy. The Florida room is by far our favorite space in the house and offered wide views of nature and the water. The boys enjoyed the dock and taking the canoe out to explore the protected cove. Nature abounds and we saw ospreys and many other birds, but the highlight was the otter swimming in the cove. We explored the NN this house was close to everything.

Beautiful and tranquil.

I don't think the pictures do it justice-- the property was gorgeous and the house was adorable. Don and Arlene were very attentive hosts and we can't wait to come back again next summer.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was lovely with all the mod cons we needed. Everything was cleverly labeled so that we could find things. We enjoyed meals on the deck overlooking the beautiful river and it was a relaxing break from city life. Arlene and don were incredibly helpful in providing recommendations for places to visit and ensuring that our visit and stay went smoothly.

I can't recommend this beautiful charming spot enough and would love to visit again.

WOW!! Where do we begin??

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we pulled into the driveway, we knew we has found the perfect place for our much needed and very overdue time away. The peacefulness and serenity of Little Wicomico Cottage is beyond compare...Don and Arlene truly make you feel like you are a guest in their home. The little touches within the property are like none we've ever experienced in a rental.

We were greeted by a meticulously organized and labeled kitchen, including a chilled bottle of champagne to welcome us. Every possible item that you would ever need is in this property. The only reason we needed to leave the cottage was to get more crabbing supplies. In five days we were able to catch enough off of the fabulous dock to eat dinner every day! The owners were able to give us tons of information before we arrived and we were able to plan every moment even though we had never visited the Northern Neck of VA!

I would highly recommend this rental for anyone looking for a relaxing and peaceful getaway!

Very aptly named, "A Little Piece of Heaven"

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for an extended weekend to attend a wedding in Reedville. This fun, eclectic house is obviously Don and Arlene's escape that they open to us, their renters. I have never stayed in a rental home that was so well stocked. Need some mayo, don't go to the store! It's in the fridge. Need some oregano, just look in the cabinet. Need 4 separate frying pans to cook that extravagant meal? No problem! Out of TP? There is more in the cabinet. And everything is labeled, so it can be found very easily.

The house is quirky, but in a fun way. They have collected a lot of trinkets and bobbles on their travels and have found ways to show them off throughout the house. I'm still guessing about the brass things in the sunroom. Staying here feels like going home to the house you grew up in--- full of personal mementos but, you feel welcome like it's your own to relax. A portrait drawing in the dining room looks exactly like Nathan's dad 25 years ago. Melissa found humor in Buddah on the ledge with the boating paraphernalia. The little trinkets on the kitchen window sill reminded me of my grandmother. Brian wanted to play some records on the turntable, but we ran out of time.

For all that we enjoyed inside, we spent most of our time at the house on the deck or on the dock. We kayaked, attempted to catch crabs with the crab pots, laughed while chatting and enjoying the breeze off the river, and sat on the dock at night stargazing. And, the grill! Awesome. Where did you get that? I want one!!

A few very minor things to keep in mind. 1. You are right on the water, so there are spiders. It's just a fact of nature. And, there are bees nesting close by the deck, as well. Not a problem at all, but you may not want to sit on the bench to the right. 2. The beds are super comfy. They have these wonderful foam toppers that are really thick and plush. The only thing to be aware of is, if you get to close to the edge in your sleep, you may slide off. LOL! 3. If your GPS tells you to take the ferry to the other side of the river in the middle of the night, ignore it. 4. The recessed can lights in the kitchen- don't use the switch by the thermostat, use the dimmer by the code-lock door. The halogen bulbs give off a lot of heat, so you will want to dim them. If we had been there longer, we would have switched them to LEDs. 5. Read all of the notes Don and Arlene send you. Lots of really good info, like how to make the wifi work. ;)

A Beautiful and Peaceful Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

Don and Arlene are amazing hosts with a spectacular location on offer. The Wicomico Cottage is directly on the waterfront and offers stunning views, comfortable beds, and a quiet place to relax. The hot tub is delightful, there's a whirlpool tub inside, and the skylights and Florida room let plenty of natural light in. The stars at night are gloriously abundant and we saw all sorts of wild life from bunnies to crabs. The cottage is also fully stocked with essentials from first aid to kitchen gear, and the thoughtful hosts put down a happy birthday tablecloth since they knew we were there celebrating a birthday. Don even left his own vacation and drove to the house to repair a malfunction in the hot tub. This was an incredible place to relax and celebrate with friends and we will definitely be booking it again in the future. Thank you both for an amazing vacation!
