Thank you for sharing your cottage with our family. We had a wonderful time - Everything was great & we would like to come back for long weekends to this piece of heaven. Very peaceful!
This trip, it was just my wife and myself, looking for a quick extended-weekend escape. We really couldn't have asked for more. We both love to fish, and we caught several - my wife catching the biggest, of course! Plenty of crabs over a few days for a big ol' pot of 'em. Which were easy to cook, because there is ample cookware, utensils and other items you might expect at home.
It's very quiet, and provides for a wonderful nature-centric view. In early July, there was a large gaggle of Canadian Geese who were having a layover across the river and would come out into the middle of the river - I think we counted forty two of them.
We called Don when we arrived and he was very responsive and friendly to talk with. Everything was clean and ready for us to get going.
When the day was over, it was very easy to get cleaned up and take advantage of the florida room and the deck, just kicking back and taking it all in.
They provide a wide selection of DVDs, and some common board games for the family/kids. Plenty of room in the living room/den on the furniture for the family to watch a movie or just hang out.
It's fairly private, even though there are neighbors. The way it is maintained is well thought out for providing some privacy without being totally secluded
We are already discussing plans to bring the kids next time and make it a full on family-vacation and explore a bit more.
Spending several wonderful days at the Little Wicomico Cottage was the highlight of our summer vacation this year. Although the words "Little" and "Cottage" suggest something small and cramped, the reality is quite different. The home is beautifully decorated and was immaculate when we arrived. Its nautical theme is appropriate, as it sits right on the water and has a dock that kept our three kids (5, 8, and 12) well entertained, watching jellyfish swim and catching blue crabs.
Truly, it was just what we were looking for. Located in an unspoiled part of Virginia, it afforded us the opportunity to visit a number of beautiful small towns, eat ice cream and seafood, swim in the Bay, canoe on the quiet river...
If you are looking for a glitzy beach destination with alternating bars and t-shirt shops, this is not for you. However, if you are looking for a VACATION and a chance to spend meaningful time with friends or family while surrounded by the beauty of the lower Chesapeake Bay, then I strongly encourage you to check this place out. You will not be disappointed. I'd return there in a heartbeat. Next time we'll stay longer, go fishing on a charter boat, play croquet on the lawn, set out all the crab traps,...
