The Upper Crooked Lake is a 735-acre all-sports lake located in the Gun Lake area near Kalamazoo's premiere Gull Lake. It is located next to the quaint tourist town of Delton in Barry County, home to some of the most beautiful lakes in Michigan. Upper Crooked enjoys the lowest boat traffic of the four largest lakes in the area and is part of a chain of lakes surrounded by the Michigan State Nature Preserve (Lux Arbor). Swans, geese, cranes and loons can be seen all summer long and the fishing is spectacular!

About Woody's Beach Houses

We are Michiganders who now hail from Austin, Texas. There's nothing better than the endless summers of Michigan, where we raised our family on the lakefront. We hope our properties will bring fond memories to all our guests, their families and friends as it has for us.

Woody's Beach Houses purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Woody's Beach Houses chose Michigan

We purchased and renovated Brenda's Beach House to be a mecca for our family and friends. We designed the property to be family friendly - the way we wanted it for our family. We are honored to have many perennial guests who have been staying with us since we purchased our first vacation rental in the area, in 2003.

What makes this cottage unique

Enjoy the benefits of a newly renovated home and all the luxuries of home. Look out the wall of windows and feel like you're on a houseboat floating on the lake. The gentle slope of the lake bottom and sandy beach are ideal for young families and elderly alike. The lake is low traffic allowing for teaming wildlife (eagles, swans, cranes, fish, turtles, frogs and more) year round.

Very relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

The house was very clean and well stocked, well maintained, including forks for marshmallows on thepit and wood for the fire pit! The view was beautiful! I would recommend this for all types of families with children and pets as well. We drove into Kalamazoo for a visit and shopping which was a mere 30 minutes away. The local restaurant was convenient as well.

Beautiful lake, lovely home

  • 5 of 5

Brenda's Beach House was great for my multi-generational family. Large, bright kitchen (we love to cook), plenty of sleeping space and best of all, a huge patio and front lawn. The clean, sandy shore was perfect for the three-year old in our group. We spent many hours on the pontoon (a must have for us!) and the pier easily accommodated our boat. The lake is lovely--big, clean, with really interesting islands and other features. We never tired of riding on it. We fished, skiied, tubed. Even the one storm during our stay was entertaining--very cool to watch come in over the lake. The owner was very helpful and easy to work with. We would definitely return.

Great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

What was not to like! Walk out your door to a beautiful clean lake. Great swimming, fishing, campfires, and boat rides. House was great, big kitchen with more utensils than you could think about. There was even a griddle to cook on and a very nice gas grill. Rent the pontoon, it is a great deal and if you have trouble with it call Bob and he will be there promptly! Great big table for family dinners, seats 10 easily and could squeeze in more .Very quiet lake especially during the week. Fish at dawn and dusk, you won't be disappointed.Grocery store 5 minutes away We are going back next year!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to stay. Beautiful lake. Friendly town. Enjoyed being able to use the paddle boat and row boat. Loved having the fire ring and wood available. The house is clean and comfortable and beautiful. We were there with 11 people and we never felt crowded. The back patio is wonderful and the view is great. The beds are comfortable and everyone slept great. There are plenty of games available for rainy days. The local pizza place has great pizza. The local grocery store has everything you need. There was even an ice cream stand within walking distance. The first floor and patio area is wheelchair accessible. Definitely hope to come back.

Amazing property - beautiful lake

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Brenda's Beach House this past summer with my sister's family and had an amazing time. The home is beautiful inside - like new, and has all the amenities we would expect in the kitchen and bathrooms. The home literally feels like its floating on the water the way the windows are laid out, and we loved the Jack-N-Jill bathroom setup on the second floor as well.

The firepit on the patio was also great and not having to take firewood was a treat. The views to the southwest gave us amazing sunsets almost every night, and we truly had endless summer nights like we remembered as kids. The lot next door was vacant, and we almost never saw the older couple next door, so it was really quiet and private. We rented the pontoon boat as well, and HIGHLY recommend it. Our enjoyment of the lake increased by multiples because we were able to discover every nook and cranny and the fishing was outstanding.

One additional detail - the home has sidewalks that wrap all the way around and down to the beach with a turnaround for wheelchairs. This was great for my son who was in a wheelchair during our trip. There was also a very spacious kennel for our Boxer, which we were able to take with us and it was like new as well.

We enjoyed going into the village of Delton and eating at Sajo's and my brother and I got a kick out of Tujax Pub. We had one rainy day and went into Kalamazoo to bowl and hit the malls and a movie and it was a short drive - maybe 15 minutes. My brother and I also hit two great golf courses nearby - Stonehedge and Gull Lake view - highly recommended. The ladies took their bikes on the Yankee Springs trail and said it was really beautiful - tons of critters/wildlife, but a little challenging.

About the only improvements I could suggest is that it would be nice to have a seadoo to rent for the kids and a TV in the kids bedrooms. The paddle boat and row boat are great for the fishermen and younger kids, but the teenagers really wanted a seadoo and we could not find one to rent. The master on the main floor had a TV, but the kids bedrooms did not so we wrestled over the remotes a little.

On the whole, this was one of our best vacations ever for our families, and we will definitely be coming back. Brett was easy to work with and really responsive and helpful in giving us ideas for our rainy day as well as with the paperwork, access instructions, etc. Highly recommended.
