About Karen Saunders

We are a family of five, living in St Albans.

Karen Saunders purchased this house in 2001

Why Karen Saunders chose North Norfolk & Coast

After enjoying many holidays in North Norfolk and renting many cottages we decided we would like to have our own to enjoy with friends, family and our (then) small children.

What makes this house unique

Redbricks is a quirky house, full of character. The garden and paddock have hosted many games of football, badminton, table tennis and cricket over the years. The house is a great base for summer days on various wonderful beaches and cosy for visits in the colder weather with the two wood burners.

A great family home to use as a base for North Norfolk

  • 5 of 5

Redbricks was like a home from home for us, with everything there that you would want for a family. There were 6 of us, including 2 young kids, so it was nice and spacious for us.

The owners clearly make an effort with nice touches like having sky sports and papers delivered on a sunday, and were flexible with our arrival time.

The kitchen was well equipped, there were plenty of toys for the kids - and the grown-ups! The patio area is lovely, with a good bbq which we used, and the garden is a huge play area. So, as a property, it was perfect for us.

The property is isolated and peaceful, so you definitely need a vehicle to get around.

Location wise, it's roughly 20 minutes to several nice beaches, such as Sherringham, West Runton and Cromer. Plenty of others are not much further, and its about half an hour to Norwich. Holt is a nice village a few minutes up the road, with a few places to eat or get a takeaway, and handy for stocking up on provisions.

We would happily stay there again and would recommend it for any family who want to use it as a base for seeing Norfolk, but don't need everything right on their doorstep.

Great Week

  • 4 of 5

We are a group of girls who go on an annual walking trip and we chose this one this year. Good Choice!!

The house was spacious and very well equipped. Although this was an adults only trip being a granny I would say this would be a fab base for a family holiday. Large enclosed Garden . Great kitchen and Garden dining Areas It has a lovely feel to it and a great place to relax . Its not a show home but very homely. The Lounge is spacious but very dark.

Of the 5 of us only one had been anywhere near this area before so we did lots of exploring as its not ideal to walk actually from the property although we did one loop around. Holt is delightful as are many of the coastal towns ( easily reachable by car ). However once you're on the coast the coastal bus service is fab . particularly if you want to do a linear walk or hop on and off to visit different resorts. Go on the steam train from Holt too - a great day out

Our only disappointment was the local gastro pub. Having seen all the great reviews we visited for a lovely teatime drink and booked for the following night. Sadly we experienced appalling service and a very mediocre meal. I think we were unlucky and just hit an off day but their response was neither helpful nor professional . Based on other positive reviews

wev'e left a discount card in the visitors book should you go .

Fantastic house for a family stay

  • 5 of 5

The house had absolutely everything you would need for a family holiday, from a myriad of kitchen utensils to toys, DVDs, games and books. I have never been in a house that caters so well for families especially. The kids loved the garden (ages 5, 7, 9 and 10), and the local area has plenty to offer from beaches to concerts, meals out and nature reserves. The house itself has also a lot of character and we spent a lot of time spotting all the small touches everywhere. Overall, I have rated if 5 star and I am hoping we will return. Thank you to the owners for the easy communication and generous touches, such as the bottle of wine we found - very welcome after a 4 hour trip with four children!!! :)

Perfect Norfolk stay for all the family

  • 5 of 5

This house was all I had imagined and more for my family to come together and celebrate my dad's 60th. It had a warm and welcoming feel, modern but still retaining all of the country charm you would hope and expect. The garden was beautiful and safe for the children to play in. The house location is excellent too, being only a couple of miles from the pretty village of Holt.

Karen made us feel so welcome, letting us check in and check out whenever we wanted to over the Easter break. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting to enjoy a home from home with an added touch of Norfolk charm.

Excellent character house

A lovely house set in a small village in North Norfolk, we stayed over Christmas and had a great time. The setting was superb and all the extra touches made it a memorable one for the whole family.

We spent a wonderful 2 weeks this summer at Redbricks. It was absolutely perfect for us! The cottage is beautiful inside, very clean and tidy, and had everything we could possibly need for our 2 week stay. We have 4 children ageing from 1 up to 10 years who made great use of the lovely garden and all the other toys & games at Redbricks. There is also a huge DVD collection (and book collection) which we made use of in the evenings.

Location wise again it was perfect for us. There are lots of places nearby to visit with the children....Bewilderwood, Holkham Park, train ride from Holt to Sherringham, crabbing in Cromer, boat trip to see the seals as well as the beautiful beaches and some lovely National Trust properties/parks, there's something for everyone! We didn't manage to fit everything into our 2 week stay so very much want to return to Norfolk (and to the lovely Redbricks hopefully!!).

The owners Karen and Andy are very friendly and helpful and make booking the holiday very easy. We would definitely recommend staying here and hope to return again ourselves sometime soon! Many thanks Karen & Andy.
