Cozy Cabin Overlooking Beautiful Lake Cuyamaca

Come enjoy some of San Diego's forgotten beauty in this gorgeous, secluded Piute Trail mountain cabin overlooking Lake Cuyamaca and just minutes from the quaint little town of Julian. During your stay, you'll have a chance to see wild deer grazing in the nearby pastures below, wild turkey foraging up and down the hillside (sometimes they even visit the deck!), raccoon's getting into their usual mischief, bald eagles soaring above or swooping in for a quick meal, owls, orioles, blue-jays, migratory ducks & geese, woodpeckers... and the list goes on! If you're into bird watching and/or photography, this is a great place for both! Using the cabin as a base camp, you'll be able to explore Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and Cleveland National Forest ,Anza-Borrego State Park with their many trails and viewpoints; fish for Florida bass, smallmouth bass, trout, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, and even white sturgeon (Yes, our lake has sturgeon!); picnic on Fletcher Island; go boating; or just take in the peaceful surroundings and vast views from the comfort of the cozy cabin! Open year-round, including the snowy winter months when you can take advantage of the local sledding and snowboarding terrain. Available by reservation only, so plan early! Guestbook comments from the owner

John,

Just wanted to say thanks for our time at the cabin. It was a great experience! Definitely cool and quiet at night which was a welcome change. The kids enjoyed being able to see all of the stars from the deck. The grill worked quite well for hot dogs and corn on the cob. I appreciate your son coming by to make sure all was well. We were blessed in being able to stay there. All the best to you and your family! - Brian & Ericka

Quaint cabin setting with great lake views from the deck. Fit our needs perfectly!

We enjoyed our stay at Piute Trail Lodge quite well. The beds were quite cozy and warm. The kitchen was perfect for our 'bachelor' cooking with everything we needed to prepare meals readily at hand. We got to enjoy an evening cocktail and a cigar from the deck while taking in the picturesque views of the lake. This was an ideal setting for our fishing trip to Lake Cuyamaca...look forward to coming back!

The little lodge by the lake <3

  • 5 of 5

The place was just what we wanted. We used it as a home base for the lake, Julian and day trips to the Anza-Borrego desert (about an hours drive). It was perfect. The weather was cold while we there (Feb) but the heat kicked on fast and heated the entire place up quickly. I have to say that I think the best thing about this place is the view. The lake is just across the road and it is a lovely view of golden grass, blue water, tree line, mountains and blue sky. Beautiful! We will definitely be back. PS I called John once while I was up there and he was very responsive and answered all my questions. Great experience.

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

Great cozy well maintained place with all the comforts of home. The view of the Cuyamaca Lake and the surrounding mountains are amazing.

The owners are amazing they keep the cabin well stocked with all the utensils and dry firewood. John the owner even brought us flashlights when there was a power outage in the area. We highly recommend this cabin!!

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent the weekend after our wedding at the Piute cabin. One of biggest concerns was having privacy for a nice romantic weekend. I was a bit worried when we pulled up and saw neighbors so close but it turned out to be fine. The living area has a beautiful big window over looking the deck and lake. The fireplace is beautiful and had plenty of firewood. All we wanted to do was curl up on the couch in front of the fire and look out over that view. Unfortunately the couch and loveseat are awful. Old and uncomfortable. Literally my only complaint though. The cabin is clean and cozy. Plenty of blankets, linen, dishes, etc. Only salt and pepper so if you are cooking keep that in mind. We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin and love the friendly people of Julian. We look forward to another stay soon!

We had a such a wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

This adorable cabin is so close to Lake Cuyamaca. We enjoyed our coffee on the patio every morning (very bundled up, but breathe taking), then enjoyed a walk around the lake. It is so close to the town of Julian for some fresh pie and great eateries. There are tons of linens and pillows. They are just short on wine glasses, so I recommend you bring your own if you enjoy that sort of thing. All over, I great trip and we will be coming back every few months for a little mountain get away.
