We felt like we found a well-kept secret! This place is truly a "get-away". The house was neat, clean, modern, and lacking nothing in the way of appliances and cooking needs in the kitchen. The lake itself is pristine, and we had fun catching fish right there at the water's edge. The water was nice for a swim, and I enjoyed a few peaceful kayak jaunts where the only sounds were the dipping of the ores and the cry of the loons. We went looking for "the upper dam". Be forewarned that you can't get there from "Upper Dam Rd" (which has a new name now). lol We ended up on logging roads which really needed a 4WD, BUT we did get to see a black bear, so that was pretty awesome! We also saw (on Rte 4)a mother moose and her baby! Also, at the dike we saw a Merganser and her babies on board. That was very cool! If you love nature, this is the place!! Make sure if you go, take the hike at Cascade Gorge. It's not easy as one writer stated, but it's worth it..don't take small children, as that would be dangerous to lose them over the side into the gorge. The locals were very friendly, especially in the tackle store in Oquossoc. We enjoyed rocking on the porch with a morning coffee at the local general store, as well. They have delicious brownies and baked goods, too! The new sportsman's museum is worth the trip, too, especially if you're looking for something on a rainy day. If you have 4WD, definitely bring it! Some people may write a bad review because there is no cell service/internet connection, but trust me! You get used to that in a heartbeat, and there is a landline for emergencies, of course. Absolutely don't miss driving up Rt 17 to Height of Land for a sunset!! If you golf, try Mingo Springs. They have the friendliest staff we have ever met, and the views were just beautiful, especially since the lupine were in bloom! We felt spoiled as we drove home, stopped off at Winnepesauki Lake at Center Harbor, and we realized what a treat we had to experience the quietness of beautiful Lake Mooselookmeguntic! Go here! Get unplugged!! We will go again! Thank you, Lois!
