Welcome to our cabin at Maggie's Farm, We are close to all of the Western North Carolina attractions and it's a place you will want to return over and over again. It has a large fully equipped eat in kitchen, both bedrooms have quality, comfortable queen sized beds with memory foam for a restful nights sleep. The back covered deck is a great place to hang out, relax, read a book, or try your fishing skills for native brown trout. The patio overlooks crystal clear Tucker Creek, (10 feet wide and 1-4 feet deep) and features a gas BBQ grill, with patio table & chairs. Tucker Creek is a cold water creek that is full of quartz rocks. The cabin borders thousands of acres of the PISGAH NATIONAL FOREST with Trailheads and Forestry roads all around. The wildlife abounds. You may see turkey, deer, bear, Canadian geese, ducks, blue heron, Bald Eagles and more.

On Maggie's Farm we raise a small flock of sheep and have a pond stocked with Rainbow Trout. There are a large variety of fruit trees including Apple, Pear, and Peach. We also grow blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, walnut, asparagus, potatoes and many other vegetables and herbs. Across the street from Maggie's is a beautiful field of cows with the mountains as a background and a donkey named Smokey who loves to to be fed carrots.

There are many beautiful nearby waterfalls. Maggie's is Located in Balsam Grove, Transylvania County, which is also known as the 'LAND OF WATERFALLS.' There are over 200 waterfalls to enjoy HIKING, BIKING, and picnicing. Maggie's is at an elevation of 3000 feet and only 10 miles to the scenic BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY, a beautiful drive to take to the Biltmore or Cherokee where Harrah"s casino is located. About Jaqueline Pray Hatch

Mark is from Southampton England and Jacquie is from Boston Massachusetts. We met in Central Florida working in our busy careers. We decided that when we retired we would buy a farm in the mountains and grow our own food and live off the land. It has been the most peaceful rewarding 8 years of our lives. We have 3 dogs, 2 German Shepherds and a Hound, 2 cats, and a small flock of sheep.

Jaqueline Pray Hatch purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Jaqueline Pray Hatch chose Balsam Grove

We spent over a year looking for the perfect property for us. It had to have several things: a creek, high elevation, pasture and forest land, a beautiful town was a must (Brevard), close to activities and near a city (Asheville). This property had all we were looking for and it was on the market for only 72 hours. Living here is like a slice of heaven. There is 5 1/2 acres on Maggie's Farm and we border thousands of acres of Pisgah Forest on 2 sides of the property. We built our home across the creek and in the very back corner of the property. In case of emergency we are just down the road a bit.

Wonderful place and wonderful hosts!

  • 5 of 5

I couldn't imagine a more wonderful visit and stay than Maggie's Farm and the hosts, Mark and Jacquie. The cabin was everything I had wanted and more. Mark and Jacquie could not have been any more accommodating or hospitable. I just wish we could've stayed longer. I will stay there again though. The cabin is awesome, right down to the very detail. Jacquie and Mark have thought of anything that might be needed in the cabin and have supplied. We loved our stay there and were instantly relaxed and comfortable both with the cabin and Jacquie and Mark. The location and the view from the cabin is spectacular. Our 8 year old grandson had a blast splashing in the creek, building a fire in the fire pit and catching fish in the pond. And that was all done on the farm! We all enjoyed the magnificent waterfalls close by. This whole experience was remarkable. We will be going back. I would recommend this place to everyone. Thanks Mark and Jacquie for many great memories!

Cozy, great location, and excellent hosts!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is exactly what we were looking for to spend Thanksgiving in the mountains! Cabin is very clean and cozy- has everything you need for a hassle free stay. Excellent location to access hiking and see some spectacular waterfalls in Pisgah, DuPont, and Gorges. Less than 30 min drive to Brevard for shopping and food. Couldn’t ask for better hosts. We were welcomed with a homemade apple pie (organic apples from the farm- delicious!!!) and our children loved feeding the sheep. Would love to stay again to explore the area in the spring/summer months so we could take advantage of the creek and pond on the property. Highly recommend The Cabin at Maggie’s Farm!

The beginning of fall in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful place, as usual, as we have stayed here before. Got to feed the lambs from my hand, with the beauty of fall colors beginning on the mountain behind their pasture. S'mores at night care of the fire pit, under a star filled sky.. True paradise. We have already booked for lambing season in April. Cannot wait to return............

Relaxing and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Go off the grid for a bit, relax and enjoy the calm of Maggies Farm. We loved playing in the creek, feeding the sheep, and the wonderful town of Brevard. It's a beautiful ride up the mountain as your cares drift away. The house is perfect and has everything you'll need.

peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Our family absolutely loved this place. Wish our stay could have been longer but we we stayed here for 2 nights but hosts were so gracious in their hospitality. Our kids loved the animals and we are always hearing about violet who was one of the host dogs that our boys seemed to latch onto. We were able to explore living waters on our only full day there and it was absolutely beautiful place only a few minutes away. Was a great place to relax and just take in the nature.
