Beautiful Mid-Coast Maine
Located in South Thomaston
Escape the hot, sticky city to sit atop the picturesque St. Georges River in the backyard of this charming 2 bedroom, 1-1/2 bath cottage for a relaxing and blissful vacation. Strategically situated at the end of a private road the only thing between you and the water are a few tranquil steps. The tidal river recedes twice daily. At low tide, watch the local clammers sift through the muddy river bottom searching for a hearty dozen steamers for dinner. The large lawn overlooks the river and is a perfect place for a friendly game of Croquet, Frisbee, Bacci Ball or Badminton.
House sleeps four with two single beds and one full. But there is plenty of room for a few extra in sleeping bags.
Within 10 minutes of downtown Rockland and within 20 minutes of picturesque Port Clyde, Tenant's Harbor, Rockport and more. The sandy beach of Drift Inn beach is a short drive down the road.
An easy trip from the West Coast -- fly Jet Blue or Virgin America direct from LAX to Boston, rent a car and make the beautiful drive North approximately 3 1/2 hours. Or, fly into JFK for a short stop over, then on to Portland, Maine to rent a car and drive the 1 1/2 hours into town. There is a one car garage and plenty of room for more cars.
Thanks to you and your family for all the great info in the area. We have had a great time. We just got back from a sunset cruise on the Heron, definitely a highlight. The air bed worked great.
Thanks again for this being such an easy rental experience.
My husband and I felt we really lucked out when we walked in this cottage. It was definitely better than the pictures.
The view of the tidal river is beautiful, and extremely peaceful. The location is perfect as you feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere, enjoying this quiet house with a view; and yet you are only 10 minutes from Rockland. The owners have made the house very convenient for renters, and have tried to anticipate what you might need, including the lobster pot. We would definitely come again, if it's available.
We made a decision mid-week to head up to Maine for the upcoming weekend. Gloria was extremely responsive and accommodating with our last minute reservation, and made sure that the entire rental process went smoothly. The house itself is at the end of a quiet road with stunning lake views. It is equipped with everything you might need for a relaxing weekend. While it was just two of us and our small dog, the house could easily accommodate more people very comfortably as the layout is perfect for socializing. There was a lot of wildlife passing by in the yard, including deer which were nice to see. We did notice a few ticks on our dog, presumably from the taller grass by the lake, so just something to be mindful of if staying with pets. If you want to get out for a bit, the house is close to a number of local wineries, as well as some great seafood spots. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back soon! Thanks again for a perfect weekend!!
We had a 3 night stay at this cute little house in August 2012 as we were in Maine for the first time and traveled there to attend the Lobster Festival. Everything about the rental process was smooth and efficient. The renter was wonderful to work with and very informative about the area and property itself. It's secluded at the end of a lane with a gorgeous view of the river right off of the back yard. It was neat to watch the clam diggers early in the mornings getting their digging done for the day. The sunsets were AMAZING! :) The house was very well equipped with everything you need to cook if you choose, even a lobster pot (which we definitely used!). The rooms were spacious and cozy and especially nice in the evenings and all the windows opened. There were specific directions left out for us as to how to handle trash, how to cook lobster, etc. which we found very helpful. The only thing to really be prepared for is that the water is well water so the first time you really use it, it had a funky smell, but got better throughout the stay. We grew up on well water so it didn't bother us too much but the other couple that was with us, didn't know what to think! haha Everything else being perfect made up for it so it wasn't a big deal AT ALL. :)
It was in close proximity to several things, especially Rockland only being about 10-15 minutes away. Places to go: The Maine State Prison Museum...fascinating, gorgeous hand made gifts! A must see! The Rockland port where the festival is held is beautiful and the lighthouse museum is there too which is pretty neat. Overall; this was a wonderful first experience to have in Maine and we will definitely stay here again should we get the opportunity to visit again!
