What a great spot.
The cottage was very clean when we arrived and everything was in working condition. We immediately felt comfortable and at home here. The only minor complaint we might have is that the two smaller mattresses are quite hard; we bought a memory foam pad to put on top of the one we used which solved the problem. The master bed was very comfortable, however.
We prefer to cook most of our meals on vacation to save money, and we were able to do so very conveniently here. The kitchen had all the utensils and cookware we needed, and the outdoor grill worked great.
The living room holds a gas stove which is operated by a thermostat on the wall. We really enjoyed the ambiance sitting in front of the fire reading in the evenings, and the stove warms up the whole cottage nicely and quickly.
The washer and dryer worked perfectly following the owner's instructions. It is a convenient luxury to be able to pack less and return from vacation with no laundry to do.
Sitting on the large deck watching the sunset was a favorite activity during our stay. When the wind was making it too chilly to use the back deck, we sat on the small upstairs balcony which is nicely sheltered from the wind. The view is exquisite from both, and even on the rainy days sitting in front of the picture windows looking out over the water was a treat.
Though we spent ample time there, during our entire week we only ran into one other person while on the beautiful, pristine beach. We found sea urchins, sea stars, lots of beautiful shells and saw a bald eagle.
We were lucky enough to time our stay at Crows Way perfectly for peak foliage, and the view across the water was beautiful painted in fall colors under the midday or setting sun.
This is a very peaceful spot, and while somewhat more remote to MDI than other rentals, we found it perfectly satisfied our desire for convenience and solitude. The cottage is located down a quiet dirt road, tucked back in the woods far from any traffic noise or other hustle and bustle. The ride in to Acadia is around 25 minutes. We made several trips there as well as other points on MDI without ever feeling like the cottage was too far away to be convenient. There are a markets convenient to the cottage as well as a Wal Mart close by.
Gail was wonderfully professional to deal with, and our deposit was retuned very promptly. Overall we were extremely pleased with our stay, and we hope to return soon. Thanks Gail!
We were so happy with Crows Way. The house is perfect size and the layout is perfect. The views from Windows and decks are amazing. The firepit by the beach made for some great stargazing and smores. We were able to kayak and swim. So quiet at night with the sound of the water. Has everything we needed to make some great meals. Loved it.
I've always wanted to visit Acadia National Park, and this summer we had the opportunity to do so. My wife and two daughters were looking for a relaxing time after a hectic summer, so the four of us drove from the Midwest to Quebec City for a few days, and then down to Trenton. We had never rented a house before - we almost always travel using our timeshares - so we didn't know what to expect. What we found was a quaint house on the bay, with its own beach and a fantastic deck for viewing the sunsets and night sky. The house was furnished with everything we needed - sleeping for 4, plenty of pots, pans, dishes, etc., a full size washer and dryer, a gas grill, and lots of extras that Gail has in the cottage. We were all very comfortable both in the house and on the grounds.
The cottage is a great place to unwind after a busy day in Acadia or Bar Harbor. We had one day of rain, and it didn't bother any of us to spend it in the house. My one daughter is a graduate student studying music composition, and she enjoyed sitting down by the beach writing music.
I really enjoyed waking up in the morning and being able to look out over the bay without even getting out of bed, and smelling the ocean air.
In Bar Harbor, we went on a whale/puffin watching cruise. We came across a pod of 3 whales that were not diving very deep, so they would be on the surface for several minutes, and then dive for only a few minutes. We stayed with them for about an hour, and I was able to get quite a few good pictures. We also sailed on a 4 mast schooner - something we had never done before. Bar Harbor is loaded with restaurants, and we enjoyed them and the various ice cream shops.
We went into Acadia twice during the week. We normally try to spend more time than that in a national park, but we were very content relaxing in the cottage, and decided we would take it easy this trip. The park is amazing!
Atlantic Brewery and Bar Harbor Cellars put out some good products, for those who are interested in trying new beer and wine.
We're not sure when we will get back to Maine, but we will definitely try to stay at Crows Way when we do.
Very clean and organized property. We loved the Adirondack chairs down by the water, and watching the loons, porpoise, and seals as they fished when the tide went in and out. Great place to unwind and slow down. The inside of the house was clean and comfortable with amazing views out the front windows. We enjoyed campfires down near the water after watching the sunset behind Blue Hill Mountain. Heavenly!
An really well equipped place, and 4 of us was really comfortable her for the week, the cottage is very well equipped and Gail has thought of everything (and more!) We loved the location, especially sitting by the fire pit and watching stars, swimming in the bay was the perfect thing after a days hiking and while we there we wanted for nothing, except to stay longer. Gail was the perfect host and made setting up the booking up a dream, we hope to find ourselves Downeast again at some stage and we'd happily stay again, thanks for sharing your place
We loved staying here in this beautiful place - it was so lovely having wonderful views from the windows as well as having the deck to relax on and the seating area by the fire pit nearer the beach. It's quiet and remote but also handy enough for Ellsworth and Bar Harbour, so easy enough to shop or go to a restaurant if you want. The house is well equipped and has a good outdoor grill as well, so we ate in most evenings. We thought our two grown up children (19 and 23) might miss the Internet but they were prepared for it and we all just read books and played games when we weren't swimming or going for walks - no complaints from any of us. We went whale watching from Bar Harbour which we would thoroughly recommend as long as you don't get seasick too easily! We also went to the top of Cadillac Mountain to see sunrise (along with a great many others - very popular ) which was really wonderful. Best breakfast place is Martha's diner in Ellsworth - looks poor from the outside but the genuine welcome and the food were the best ever. We spent the week here after some hectic sightseeing in Boston, so it was a perfect place to recuperate and relax.
