Beautiful place to relax for the weekend
This lake house was definitely what we needed for a long weekend of relaxation. The lake is gorgeous and clean, as described, and the view from the back deck is wonderful. We spent the majority of our days on the water fishing. I definitely regretted not bringing my clubs, as the golf course across the street looked better than anticipated.
We really enjoyed dinner at the Beallsville Diner. The burgers, pizza, and berry pie were all fantastic and very reasonably priced.
The home is a little older and needs some tlc. Both the charcoal grill and paddleboat were borderline useable. No coffee maker, toaster, or pots. Very limited drinkware and utensils. Now a huge deal if you know that ahead of time.
Peace and Beauty
For those who like to get away from just about everything, this may be your place. It was perfect for our family of 5. Desperately needing a getaway, instead of sleeping in every morning of our long weekend stay, I found myself on the back deck that overlooks the clean and clear lake, watching the sun rise, coffee in hand. With the fog rising off the lake and dancing around me, the sunrise was a truly magical event. I was able to take unbelievably stunning pictures. And then...the full moon rose that night, and the lake was like a mirror. Just being able to experience this alone was amazing, and worth the trip down, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are a couple neighbors, the one man I spoke with was very nice, and even though we stayed on a weekend, it was very quiet. The golf course was stunning. We are used to mostly flat courses, even though we didn't play this time, it was a really impressive course! Sure looked like fun! Everything in the house was homey, and we had everything we needed. We went to the Ohio River, which is about a half hour from the house, and visited the Hannibal locks. We made it in time to watch a gravel barge lock through, and there are some interesting canal/river artifacts to see there as well. The hiking in the Wayne National Forest was spectacular, with the fall colors, and it was neat to see the drilling rigs at work also. If you like hills and hiking, trees and rivers....this is your place. We enjoyed every minute of it, and being with our family. Thank you, Daniel!
Beautful setting and seclusion
This is almost exactly what we were hoping for in a guys' weekend. House was clean with good-sized common area big enough for all 9 of us. Deck was nice and big and allowed outdoor time. The lake was quiet and pretty and perfect for kayaking and fishing. Tyger, the outdoor cat, visited daily and was very friendly. Great property for the price.
I would have given 5 stars if not for the following:
1) More TV stations. I think there were about 8 stations.
2) A few dishes in cupboards were dirty (we washed them, so not a big deal).
3) Not enough beds. 2 queens and 2 twins are not enough for 6 - 8 guests.
Great weekend get away
We had a long stay over the weekend to get out of the city. The place was great to go and hang out by the lake. The back deck provided an awesome view over the lake for meals and cookouts. Will definitely be back to visit!
This house was so nice! It was myself and 5 other adults and everyone had a great time. The only downfall is the paddle boat didn't really work.
Beautiful lake setting
Our family stayed with another family, 13 total. The house was large enough to have 1 couple in bedroom on main floor, a couple in upstairs bedroom, 4 boys in upstairs bedroom, 1 teen on couch, and 2 air mattresses sleeping 4 in landing upstairs and in entryway (mudroom). Plenty of space to spread out and not be on top of one another. There's 1 full bath but half bath upstairs that was great, also shower in basement but we didn't use it.
The location was beautiful! We enjoyed swimming in lake right off the property ( a little mucky getting out there- but we would just jump on a floaty til out there far enough) would be great to have a dock. The men and boys did a lot of fishing. We used the paddle boat and our fishing boat (can only use a trolling motor). I liked that there's no power boats on lake- didn't have to worry about the kids swimming. We did make the kids use life jackets though- we were told the lake is 20 feet deep straight out from house and 40 feet deep in middle. In late evening when then golfers were off the coarse, we would go out there and play bocci ball, as there's no flat ground anywhere else around. We enjoyed fireworks sitting on the deck and from the campfire pit. They actually had them 2 nights. There's only about 10-15 homes on the water, and they gave quite a nice display that lasted over 45 minutes.
The owner was terrific with communication and making us feel at home. We had everything we needed for our stay. We plan on staying again in the future.
The only few negative things to mention is it is very, very steep!!! and no steps. I would never take children under 8 yrs old or elderly. In the early morning and evening (because of dew) the grass is slick. It is quite a hike up and down to get from house to lake. We just made sure to pack a cooler and when we headed down we knew we were staying there for awhile. On a positive note- we probably lost a few pounds while toning our legs, ha! We still think it was totally worth it to have that view- very beautiful!! The only other negative was there was a random cat that came around once in awhile (we are allergic and dont like cats at all!) The cat got into our trash at night so we had to re bag it, then we set it on the over hang of roof.
But great time, very glad to have been there.
