Space 1,156 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 bedrooms , 1 Bath, Sleeps 6

A fully furnished two-bedroom, one-bath cottage. Old World charm, with knotty pine throughout, beamed ceiling, hand-scraped birch flooring, Persian rugs, antiques and original art. Two decks, upper and lower, with a propane BBQ, table and chairs for "dining out." A yard in back with regulation horseshoe pits. An exterior sauna for four! (see more below.) A disc golf course 100 feet from your front door. A city park with playground 300 feet from your door. A ten-to-twelve-minute walk to Multnomah Village, with its charming coffee shops, restaurants and pubs, antique shops, art galleries, boutiques and gift shops. And all within a ten-minute drive of downtown! (Check with us to see more pictures.)

The house is filled with the things required for living: bedding, towels and washcloths, soap and shampoo, toothpaste, shaving cream, a filled medicine cabinet, hair dryer, dish and laundry detergent, vinegar and oil, sugar and spices, coffee and tea, on and on. It is meant to require of you only that you bring your clothes and personal items. And, of course, the main ingredients of the meals you plan to prepare.

For families with small children, we have: a cradle, stair gates, a stroller, a playpen, highchairs, and lots of toys, playthings and books for all ages. One of the side closets is a child-scale play area.

The kitchen is small, but has a double sink, microwave, coffee maker, dish washer and everything required to prepare and serve meals. The table and space available will seat six.

The main floor living area has a leather couch/hide-a-bed, table and easy chair. Also on the main floor is the large bathroom, wheelchair accessible, and the garage, which has been semi-converted into a bonus room with a double bed, a single trundle bed and a wall-mounted 40" television.

On the second floor are the two bedrooms. The east bedroom has two single beds in an alcove and a queen-size futon in the main area which, during the day, can serve as seating for TV watching. Off the east bedroom is a deck, facing east, which makes a great spot to sit with your coffee to watch the morning sunrise. The west bedroom has a queen-size bed and desk, and a TV with built-in DVD player/VCR.

This is a great place that was clean and cozy and in a great location with easy access to the city.

We loved staying in this home. Dennis and Trudi are so very kind and have thought of all the extras one would need while away from home. It is located in a quiet neighborhood near a fun park. There are grocery stores that are nearby as well as easy access to the freeway. We were able to explore Portland and the coast and have a comfortable place as a homebase. We will definitely stay again.

Great place to stay in Portland.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four recently spent a long weekend in this lovely, clean, spacious cottage. The owners could not be nicer or more accommodating, and they seemed to have thought of everything: dishes, food, blankets. many sleeping options, etc. Highly recommended.

The Best VRBO Experience

  • 5 of 5

Having just been snowed in for several days at this lovely place (it was an historic snowfall for Portland where over a foot of snow stuck to the ground for more than a week) we feel highly qualified to give this property an A+, 5 Star rating. First off, Dennis and Trudy stocked the kitchen with enough essentials to get see us through several meals. Secondly, each room (of which there are many) was piled high with lovely quilts, blankets and cozy places to sit and watch TV or read. There is a great stock of VHS tapes and DVD's, along with matching equipment to play the shows. The heater is very efficient. But perhaps best of all are the two little attic rooms filled with all sorts of toys. Our 17 month old Grandson was so delighted to explore those spaces with us and discover all the toys. Truly magical! This is a wonderful place for families or couples. It is close enough to downtown (when it's not snowing), walking distance to Multnomah Village (when it's not icy), and there are several wonderful parks close by. We had fun watching kids sled down the hill at nearby Custer Park and adults playing Frisbee golf in the snow in the other park. Trudy and Dennis are very nice people, which only makes the experience even better. Book this place now! You'll be really glad you did.

Perfect Place to Stay in Portland

  • 5 of 5

Our family and I stayed in the Multnomah Guest House for eight days and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The house is actually bigger than it looks in the pictures, and it is very clean and well stocked with more than enough to keep you entertained during your stay. Our two young sons particularly enjoyed the two playrooms tucked in a tiny room off each of the upstairs bedrooms! The owners are very friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have a pleasant stay. I loved the location, too--quiet neighborhood, but very close to Safeway when I needed to run out to pick up odds and ends. Would definitely stay here again!

the greatest place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights at this wonderful place. It is a full house, two stories, with every comfort you can imagine. The owners stock the refrigerator and the cupboards. They are a charming, fun couple who come and chat with you and give you information about everything you need. The location is perfect: 3 miles from downtown, but walking distance to stores, and restaurants. They also provide movies, books and puzzles. It is a great place to stay. Susan and Rick

Exceptional experience.

  • 5 of 5

My only hesitation is giving a 5 star review is that the cottage will be fully booked from now on, so that we won't be able to stay there again when we return. The scene is a garage, remodeled into the 2 story cottage, next to the owners' childhood home, where her parents ran a small dairy. The decor is knotty pine, reminiscent of a Small Swiss chalet. Everything is practically brand new and works perfectly, the electric sauna is so new it still smells of cedar, and the refrigerator was stocked with enough breakfast food for a siege. Trudy and Dennis are sweet, interesting people, whom we wished we could ship back to Hawaii with us and keep for next door neighbors. The neighborhood is one of those hidden areas in Portland where real people still live, and gentrification is still being kept at bay. One evening, we went to one of the local supermarkets, bought some local craft beer, came back to the cottage and laid out some snacks, and watched four or five foursomes play frisbee golf in the old cow pasture next door. Highly entertaining!

On site: In good weather, there is horseshoes (equipment supplied); in less than ideal weather, there are books and games for all ages. Or bring your own. The sauna (interior dimensions 5-1/2' X 7') is located just off the lower deck, with a cold-water outside shower.

Off site: Disc golf (100 feet away), equipment supplied. A city park within 300 feet, with a playground and fields. In season, there are wild blackberries, apples and pears within 250 ft.
