About Brent and Carrie Larose
Our names are Brent & Carrie Larose and we are Canadian. We decided to build here after we spent 13 months travelling on two motorbikes around south & central America, Mexico, USA and Canada. Traveling over 85,000 km Tulum was the magical spot! The Azul water, white soft sand beaches, access to additional amazing locations, excellent people, food and wine. The place you can make your home. If you would like to know more there is a book : I hope you love this property as much as we do.
Brent and Carrie Larose purchased this House in 2013
Why Brent and Carrie Larose chose Macario Gomez
It is peaceful, quite and natural. Tulum is beautiful, the access to so many wonderful spots is incredible.
What makes this House unique
It is away from traffic noises, barking dogs and roosters. You get to experience nature in a jungle. The jungle is what is referred to as a "tourist jungle" in other words there are no big scary cats or anything like that out at the property. We also have someone living at the front gates so the community is protected.

Clean and respectful of property. This is a off grid home so energy conservation is important. Do not live lights on and items plugged in when not in use. Doors and screens need to stay shut at all times. This is a home in the jungle and we would like to keep the jungle outside. respect the billiards table, no drinks near it. Make sure the fridge door is closed fully. That is about it, really just common sense for the most of it.

Beautiful location property manager and owner we’re very very easy to work with
We had a beautiful stay at Casa de Los Monos. The house was exactly as described. We had some initial trouble getting in touch with the property manager, but the owners responded on her behalf when we reached out to them. Since we didn’t know what to expect, we were a bit apprehensive on our first night. We didn’t know what to expect or how busy the jungle would be at night. But not a single hitch. We stayed for 3 nights and took advantage of the pool table and the kitchen. The WiFi didn’t disappoint but we were a bit bummed out that the grill didn’t work.
The area was perfect for us because it was close to many cenotes, ruins and the beach. Staying there was definitely an experience.
The only down side is that the water shut off on our last day around 10:30am while we were getting ready to check out. It was a bit frustrating, but we had a ton of bottled water so we made do.
Beautiful Jungle House
Definitely a house worth visiting. Nicest place in the area. House is off the grid, so be prepared for an almost camping in jungle experience. Had a few storms that rolled thru the 1st week so solar power was not able to charge. The generator kicked on frequently, however the owners quickly took care of the issue. Loved playing pool with my family. My boys loved all the cool bugs. Wasn’t to far from town either. Would be willing to go back perhaps not around raining season.
Very pretty house
This house is really beautiful. Amazing access to stargazing and access to the jungle.
It’s about 18 km away from tulum town - on average a 25 min drive. The path from the highway leading to the house is then a bumpy >1km drive into the jungle to then get to the house.
The house has a well stocked kitchen, so it’s easy to go grocery shopping in tulum town and then entertain yourselves in the House. We ended up not seeing any monkeys but did see some pretty birds during the stay. The bed, hammocks and couches are very comfy. The house has high ceilings so the TV is really high up so you have to view it at an odd angle.
The house is well ventilated and you don’t need AC at all, the fans they provided are pretty sufficient.
This place is great. The only place I will consider if I go back to Tulum.
As described with a few hiccups
We spent 3 weeks at Eculuum and overall our experience was good. The pictures that are on the website are a very accurate description of the house. The kitchen is pretty well stocked with everything needed to make delicious meals. The high ceilings make for good air flow and even though the weather was hot, it was always cool enough to sleep comfortably.
The shower is divine and the hammock is a welcome luxury! The house is deep in the forest (2 km in from main road-a bit bumpy) and is definitely in seclusion. There is a ton of serenity during the day when the solar panels feed any electrical requirements and when the generator does not need to run.
There were a few challenges. The generator gave us a few troubles-it's very loud, it did not hold the battery charge as it had to run every 8-10 minutes and it did stop working altogether for one day. The property manager was very helpful and came with technical assistance to fix the issue quickly so we only spent a short time without power.
The washer did not work for the entire stay despite a service call done on it.
The internet went down for 2 days which was an issue due to working remotely. Again the property manager did what he could to help us get the service restored and we went into town to access the internet to stay connected.
Despite these few hiccups we did enjoy our extended stay. If you are looking for a location completely removed from the world, this is it!
