Sleeps - 20 (with bunk room). If you are looking for majestic beauty in an extremely private setting, look no further. From the River, to the pond, to the trees, and more; pure Wisconsin nature and beauty as far as the eye can see. Deer, geese, and turkeys as well as hundreds of bird species (including hummingbirds) call this place home. Come, enjoy, relax - kick-back and hang out. If you're interested in a little more socializing, it's just minutes from the Chain O'Lakes resort-style fun. Excellent fishing on the Little Wolf River, just South of Manawa in Waupaca County, Wisconsin. This 80 acre retreat has been a private lodge for a family who wishes to share the beauty with other caring travelers. Enter as strangers, leave as friends. The property includes not only a great room with exotic trophies from around the world, but world-class small mouth bass fishing, Wisconsin's wonderful trout, and a mixture of other fish types. The private pond is stocked with largemouth bass and hybrid blue gill. The site has its own private fish license, such that fishing the pond does not require a private out-of-state fishing license. The river systems in Waupaca County are filled with fly-fishermens' dreams of outstanding trout. Waupaca County is one of the top in Wisconsin for trophy-class white tail bow deer experiences. See the state of Wisconsin website for license requirements.
We had a great time at RiverRun. The lodge was beautiful and Jack took great care of us. We visited in the winter and enjoyed everything about the property. It was a great way to spend some time in the outdoors and relax.
We had a great time at the River Run Lodge! My brothers, sister and I all spent a wonderful week together, with all our children enjoying the lodge, bunkhouse, pool, and the amazing back woods on the property.
The drive down to the property is amazing. It must be at least a mile... it keeps going and going, taking you further and further into the woods away from cars, roads, and worries. By the time you think you must be lost, the road stops and you are there! Little Wolf River runs right through the property and we spent the first hour standing by the babbling brook, relaxing and letting our cares drift away. The kids saw a swimming animal, we think it was a muskrat? We couldn't tell for sure and we weren't about to bother the animal for a closer look. We could see fish and frogs and turtles all swimming contentedly... the kids loved it! (Well, so did the adults!)
We started by checking out the place on the first day. It is huge and filled with hunting and fishing trophies. Of course, the kids immediately ran to the bunk house where they "oohed" and "aaahed" at the lofts and bunks. They were quick to claim "their" spot! And then they noticed the pool table, and that was the last we saw of them for a few hours. :)
We aren't hunters or fishers... but that didn't keep us from enjoying the decor.
Next, we turned to food. Two full size refrigerators, two ovens, and one of each was in the garage so we could cook without heating up the house. Very nice! Everybody brought some of the food and we took turns cooking meals. The huge garage was mostly empty and a giant picnic table was just big enough for all 17 of us to eat as a big happy family.
The next day, the kids discovered the pool! And that kept them busy for hours. Beach balls, games of tag, sitting in the sun or shade, and the kids had squirtguns. Everybody got soaked, even if you didn't go in the pool!
One night was devoted to s'mores and the fire. A big firepit was loaded up with wood and we enjoyed a roaring campfire, the kids roasted marshmallows and enjoyed treats. There were mosquitoes... we all loaded up with Deet.
The days were relaxing and pleasant, and fans and a nice breeze kept the place enjoyable. We even enjoyed two big rainstorms, sitting on the large covered porch and telling stories while eating. But in between, we played yard games, swam in the pool, and went for long walks.
We had an amazing time. Thanks Jon for sharing your home with us!
We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend. There was plenty for everyone to do. I would go back just to spend more time in the bunkhouse! We fished, walked in the beautiful autumn woods, watched hawks, cranes and other birds fly over head. Very enjoyable time. No need to pack towels or bed linens. Great fire pit with ready to light fire built. All the comforts of home and more space, hammocks, hot tub and weather ordered just for us.
We had a wonderful time at River Run Lodge. The property is extremely clean and very equipped and just beautiful. The pool and spa were nice. Shopping was convenient. It is pet friendly - The kids enjoyed tubing in the river (with our dogs)! My kids had a blast and want to go again next year. River Run Lodge in Wisconsin was a very nice place to relax and enjoy the scenery. Jack was very nice to work with and very helpful.
