Indre House Rental Photos and Description

19th c traditional house in quiet rural village in wine growing area. Free WiFI

If you want to relax, enjoy great food, wine, and step back into history then this area of France is just for you. Maison Des Reves is a 19th Century house with spacious orchard garden is located in the peaceful village of Varennes Sur Fouzon.

There is ample off road parking. Once the gates are closed it is an entirely safe and secure site for children and pets.

The ‘house of dreams’ is set in a secluded orchard garden. A variety of luscious fruit trees and flower beds create a perfect canvas as you relax and enjoy sweet unpolluted air that carries the fragrance of the garden’s many rose bushes during long summer days, The warm endless evenings can be spent sampling the local wines on the patio, and as the sun falls you can watch the bats darting across the star filled night skies as you accompany your wine with a smooth cheese produced just a few miles from the house.

Come to Maison des Reves and be a part of the dream

The beautiful house centres round a large kitchen. This was the traditional meeting room of the family and is an ideal opportunity to try out your French culinary arts and enjoy typically French social meal times. It has recently been fitted with light oak cupboards and work surfaces. Your meals can be served on an antique rosewood and mahogany circular table with six carved chairs.

As you enter through the front door from the orchard garden the long central hallway gives access to all the rooms. The large lounge with period leather chairs, sofa, recliner and double bed settee has a beautiful marble fireplace and hearth and is a very comfortable room to relax in. Or you can watch a video or DVD.

Opposite this room is the double bedroom which has an antique mahogany wardrobe and a chest of drawers. Further along the hallway down two steps brings you to the smaller bedroom on the left. This has bunk beds and a single bed. It also has an oak floor and a full picture window.

The recently modernised bathroom offers a full size bath, a walk in shower cubicle, wash- basin, toilet and washing machine.

When you take a stroll in the orchard garden you can either enjoy the smell of blossom or help yourself to the peaches, plums, apples or pears, depending on the season. The delightful garden is completely enclosed.

About Steve Garry

We fell in love with Maison des Reves during a summer holiday in 2002 even though it was in a very sad state. We then spent the next 10 years slowly renovating it back to its original condition but there will always be more we can do. We also renovated the small cottage in the same grounds. Having taken early retirement the cottage is our home while the main house is for friends family and of course guests who want to enjoy staying here

Steve Garry purchased this house in 2002

Why Steve Garry chose Indre

Maison des Reves is ideal break for anyone who wants to get away from the stress of working life and really relax. Life goes at a very slow pace and you will enjoy peaceful days eating fresh food and drinking excellent local wines and visting the historic Chateaux villages and towns scattered along the Loire

What makes this house unique

The house is on one level (all but a small step in the hallway) so is ideal for anyone who has trouble climbing stairs.

The house is well situated for days out to the famous Chateaux Chambord Chenenseau and Valencay is only 10 minutes drive.

You will also be in excellent wine country were you can visit the vieyards taste and buy red white and sparkling wines at very good prices.

There are many excellent restaurants that serve traditional French cuisine made from fresh local produce.

The village of Varennes also has a rail station for the local Hertitage railway the only narrow gauge railway left in France. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemin_de_Fer_du_Blanc-Argent

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a very restful peaceful and enjoyable week we had

There is plenty of historic places to visit but relaxing in the garden with local wine and food was perfect. We loved the little local bar which did a lunch for only 12 euro. We also enjoyed taking the local train into Romorantin to do some shopping

Family Friendly Cottage for Exploration of the Loire Valley

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six (two adults and four children ages 7, 9, 13, and 16) enjoyed a four night stay in this lovely 19th centuray cottage in Verennes-sur-Fouzon. It was ideally located for exploration from a welcoming home base. Just as described, the cozy and clean cottage, with two bedrooms, a lounge room, and a large comfortable kitchen with everything one might need to prepare and serve a meal, was situated in a gorgeous enclosed garden in the heart of the Loire. We dined outside on several occasions and the children enjoyed passing the football to and fro every evening. We also enjoyed watching the Euro 2016 on the television with English commentary! A large supermarket was only minutes up the road in the town of Chabris.

Steve, the very gracious host, warmly welcomed us on the first night with a bottle of wine from the region and great advice on sights to see in the area. It was easy to drive to Amboise, Blois, Chenonceaux, and environs to explore castles and towns. Our family's favorite sights were the Clos Lucé and the Château de Chenonceau. We also enjoyed the Zoo-Parc de Beauval and canoeing on the Cher (canoe-company.fr). Steve is an excellent host and we would recommend this property to anyone wishing to have a relaxing home away from home from which to explore the area by car. Thank you, Steve, for making our stay so memorable - we hope to see you again!

A great place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it was very clean, well maintained and well equipped. The garden was as ,described, well kept and secure, all in all a true home from home. The property is set in a delightful and quiet village with a well stocked supermarket only a few minutes down the road. Unfortunately the baker in the village had recently closed down, but it is hoped that it will open again in the near future, however this did not cause us any problems. There is a very friendly bar in the village that is open all day closing early evening, local cuisine is available there at lunch time.

Steve, the owner and his wife (who was away when we were there) live next door and he made us very welcome and was always extremely helpful and friendly, very knowledgeable about the village and surrounding area and where to visit - including the best vineyards. He really helped to make our holiday complete.

We would thoroughly recommend the property for a quiet and restful holiday for walking and exploring the surrounding area.

Thank you Steve.

A lovely, typically French cottage. Beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

My wife, dog and I were delighted when we came into the village as it was as rural as we had hoped. We were doubly delighted when Steve, the owner, showed us into our holiday cottage as it just oozed French charm. It was spacious without being too large and was as comfortable as we could have wished for. It lacked for nothing and the kitchen was perfect. We have stayed in other cottages where the kitchen was a bit too basic and this can let the holiday down but The House of Dreams was right on the money.

The garden was an absolute delight. It is totally enclosed and so is very secure and private. It is just perfect for eating and drinking out-doors. Our dog couldn't get over the freedom to roam freely over such a large area.

Steve's wife was away visiting her mother but this didn't prevent him from being extremely helpful. He is a mine of information about the area and can recommend good places to eat and visit etc..

The village is quiet and very central to many places of interest. We could mention a few but there are so many of them. As a consequence we'll come back in a couple of years and stay in this cottage again. It is thoroughly recommended. Many thanks Steve.

dream holiday

  • 5 of 5

Maison de rêves is an ideal place to stay if you're looking for a peaceful holiday, not too far from interesting touristic places in the Loire Valley (medieval towns, châteaus, nice markets, vineyards,...).

The house is very comfortable, the rooms are spacious and cosy. We loved the garden with fruittrees and roses, all very romantic. It was also an ideal playground for our litlle boy, who enjoyed looking for plums and smelling the flowers.

We had a wonderful stay also thanks to the owner Elaine, who provided excellent customer service! She was available if we wanted information about the region, winetastings, ... but she also let us enjoy our family-time in peace. And ofcourse we won't forget the marvellous vegetarian dinners she made for us.

We already recommended this place to our friends.

We found our stay at the cottage really enjoyable, the facilities were exactley what we hoped for, very clean and every one of our wishes granted. our only concern was the smell coming from the bathroom it was quite strong at times, but I believe that is going to be rectified.

Our host Elaine could not do enough for us helping us with all our enquiries, even sending us to places we had never thought to visit. The village is a really lovely place and there are very good road trips to all the surrounding country side. Again I cannot say enough about our host Elaine a more friendly person you good ever hope to meet

We had a wonderful week at Maison-des-Reves. The house was spacious, clean and perfect for relaxing in the garden over dinner. The host was great. We also found the location very good for a variety of activities around the Loire valley. We would highly recommend a stay.
