I was looking to book a hotel in Bar Harbor for Columbus Day Weekend but the area was completely booked. So instead I found this wonderful house in Southwest Harbor and I am glade I did. The area has very different vibe than the touristy feel of Bar Harbor. Here you get the feeling that you are visiting friends. The house is still very conveniently located for visiting Acadia NP and BH. The house is very comfortable and it's history is rich. Tom and Kristen are very easy to work with. I will be back.
We stayed here with a large group of several families in the late-late fall. It was wonderful - cozy, welcoming, roomy, historic, warm and comfy. We loved being in a village, but close to excellent hikes and etc. We had fires, card games at night, and great family time. We used both kitchens to good effect, and enjoyed the separation that the two sides to the house provide. Owner was available and helpful as needed. Highly reccomend to anyone with a large family group, and / or who wants the combo of village and nature close by. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
This historic home was everything we had hoped for our family get-together. The owner visited us at the outset and answered all our questions. The house is beautifully kept up. Our favorite eating spot - Beals - is a short walk away and the village only a bit farther. Our family hiked, biked, swam, and ate, lobsters and pies being irresistible treats. We cannot recommend the house and Southwest Harbor more highly.
We had a great time at this perfect family retreat house. Lots of space across the street from the harbor, easy walk to downtown area and short drive to acadia hikes.
