One born & bred area girl and one "summers-at-the-shore" boy knew the place for them was small town life by the sea. Familiar faces & traditional events in town, elementary school around the corner, beautiful beaches, walking & biking through town, and wonderful neighbors was the lifestyle we wanted for our young family. The town of Spring Lake is a special place, to which our many guests attest - visit, after visit, after visit.
Sue & Darren purchased this house in 1999
This charming home has links to the historic Lewis Lumber Yard which occupied several blocks in this part of town. Mr. Lewis built a row of homes across the street for his employees, while our home was most likely built for an over-see-er or manager. Original floors and trim were in excellent shape when we purchased the home & have been maintained. Renovations to the home have been completed with the historic value of the home in mind, in order to preserve the authenticity of the dwelling.

We came back for a second year to this charming home for a wonderful beach vacation. We all had a great time in this beautiful and well maintained property. The easy access to beach and pool with beach lockers make it so easy with 3 small children. We are looking forward to our return visit!
This house is ideal - perfectly suited to 5 - 7 people - and we found owners to be most welcoming & accommodating. House was immaculate upon arrival w/ beds made, towels hanging nicely in baths, area menus collected for dining out & take-out. Even provided a wealth of beach towels for guests to use! Available by text to respond to any questions, but not intrusive in any way.
House: Simply love the open floor plan, hinted at from living room - flowing into kitchen & family room. Kitchen is well planned w/ separate areas conducive to gathering together for all meals - food prep, island eating, window seating. Patio is a good size & has great accessibility to family room - super spot for post beach & outdoor grilling. Outdoor shower is adjacent to a side door - making it easy to get from there into house - no need to trek across a yard full of guests in a towel!
Town: what's not to love about Spring Lake?? Quiet beaches, walks on boardwalk & through town, beautiful parks, and playing tennis. A must-do: enjoy town from the seat of a bike ... in-town bike rentals make this easy!
despite my instincts (based on a VRBO review as well as a couple strange conversations with the owners) 8 rented this house for myself, my parents, my adult sibling and my three year old daughter over Labor Day. Unfortunately I wish I had trusted my gut as the owners not only invaded our vacation every day of our stay but also robbed us of over half our security deposit in one of the most ludicrous and insulting letters of grievances I have ever received.
The house lived up to its expectations in that it is charming, well decorated, organized so nicely for guests and a great location. Sue, the owner, left a wonderful book for my daughter as a welcome gesture, but unfortunately none of that outweighs the extreme negatives that are unacceptable for renters.
The owners found reasons to come to the property every day, and each time we were accomodating. Although it made my husband and parents uncomfortable, we were gracious and even went as far as to quickly vacate the home so the owner could show it to another prospect. The most intrusive was when the owner asked me if her son could come over and mow the lawn early one morning. I said yes and for the next two hours had to uncomfortably deal with her husband lurking around the backyard, front yard and garage. As my parents attempted to enjoy coffee in their pajamas, they felt incredibly uncomfortable being able to see the owner 10 feet away appearing to do nothing more than spy on us. Well after the son was done mowing, the husband stayed and at one point seemed to be watching the home from his car.
Despite all of this, I was prepared against my husband's wishes to not submit an official review but instead email the owners with suggestions on how to make people feel more like it is their home for the weekend if they pay.
That was until we received our security deposit back. The owners took over $600 of our money with unfounded and ridiculous charges such as "physical remnants and odor beyond description" in the master bedroom where my very tidy and clean smelling parents slept.
There were false charges of evidence of smoking cigarettes and damaging the cushions with ashes. This is an outright lie. Most frustrating of the claims is a paragraph long rant about ants. Yes, within an hour of arriving, we found ants so out of pocket we bought ant traps since this is CLEARLY a common problem.
If you value your privacy and money do not rent this home. We are insulted and will not be returning.
Exceptionally clean, well maintained and well-equipped. Convenient location to town and beach. Owner is very hands in and helpful. Provided useful guidance, beach and pool badges. Highly recommend for an affordable spring lake rental.
We had a wonderful time here - yet again! - perfect for the 5 of us & occasional grandparents. We love this house and can't thank you enough for leaving all the kid & beach stuff for us - those things make a world of difference especially since we come from afar.
We absolutely love this vacation home, so much that we've rented it 3 times over the past 5 years. The owners make you feel like it's your home and are always available, if needed. Over the years they beautifully updated their home and we benefit :) We will continue to rent this home and continue to make our summer memories here !
