ALPENGLOW RANCH offers some of the most spectacular, jaw-dropping views in the entire Telluride region. This unique 'top of the world' location features 360 degree views from atop 12 acres with a pond. The spectacular San Juan Mountains surrounding Telluride viewed from inside or from the wrap-around flagstone terrace are always inspiring. Rarely is this level of view property made available for vacation rentals, throughout the United States, and virtually never at such reasonable prices. Alpenglow Ranch is a work in progress, and as such, there may be piles of stone for future rock work or the like, stacked in the rear out of sight. This is one reason we are able to offer this property at such a low price.
Inside Alpenglow ranch, the glassy Great Room was designed for entertaining, and is a joy for even the chef to use. The single level design makes it easy to get around this spacious, comfortable 2200 sq ft country home.
Watching the seasons go by your window is a constant pleasure, as well as the wildlife that is always around, sometimes even looking in the windows! You can expect to see Deer, Elk, Fox, Ermine, Rabbit, Hawk and Eagle, with Duck, Goose and Great Blue Heron hanging out in the pond. Topped off by the morning and evening alpenglow, this house is a wonderful place to observe nature at its most beautiful, in a private setting, just a short, beautiful drive from everything Telluride has to offer.
Throughout the spring and summer, beautiful pastures on the horizon have horses grazing in pastures below. On the road up to the house, new colts with their mares can be seen gamboling in the grassy fields.
In the master suite, the master bath features a beautiful antique claw-foot tub for 2, and also boasts awesome views. Throughout the house, on this sunny hilltop, and with infloor heating throughout, it's always cozy at Alpenglow Ranch!
We look forward to being your hosts, and welcoming you personally to Telluride! You can count on a thoroughly unforgettable vacation experience.
"Hope you had a great X-mas holiday & a happy New Year. We skied every day. We had a great time & we'll see you again soon."
My husband and I chose Alpenglow Ranch based on the pictures showing the mountain views. We were stunned and amazed when we arrived-the setting and the views are even more beautiful than pictured. John met us and showed us around this beautiful home, explaining how things worked. He made us feel so welcomed! We stayed for five weeks and got to witness an incredible fall color display from the large, expansive living room windows. Every room in the house had wonderful views. The home is about 20-25 minutes from Telluride and is a lovely drive. John gave us good advice on enjoying the surrounding area attractions-we had a great time! If you love golfing, fly fishing, cultural entertainment, and beautiful scenery, this place is for you!
The home was very comfortable and well built-no drafts (heated floors throughout). The galley kitchen is open to the living/dining area and has a complete stock of dishes, silverware, glasses and cookware. The three bedrooms had comfortable beds and great views. Both bathrooms have showers; the master also has an antique claw bathtub.
The master bedroom and bath are at one end of the house; the other two bedrooms and bath are at the other. Very quiet except for hearing the coyotes and elk occasionally. Mule deer in the front or side yard, sometimes in the morning or sometimes in the late afternoon.
If you enjoy living in an area with expansive views of Wilson Peak and the surrounding mountains, then this place is for you! Pam W.
Our stay was 8 days of waking to the mountains surrounding the mesa, and sitting captivated by the light. The house had everything we needed and many things we didn't need but enjoyed nonetheless. The house is handcrafted and creative, comfortable and designed to let the mountains remind you just how beautiful the natural world is. Our arrival was delayed for a couple of hours by a road closure (mudslides) and John was very understanding, meeting us at the house in the dark. He is an experienced host, available, but hands off unless needed. We explored surrounding areas and hiked and unwound. It was a renewing vacation. When we return we will rent a 4 wheel drive so we can take some of the back roads and to make getting to the house a snap. There are so many trails and mountains and mines, and wildflowers to see, and so many stories to listen to. John advised us to stock up on groceries in Montrose and this was good advice as the house is definitely some distance from suppliers.
We stayed here during Christmas week in 2015 (4 adults, using all three bedrooms). The house was very comfortable and warm thanks to the radiant heating. The 270 degree views of Colorado's San Juans and the meadows, hillsides and Aspen groves of Wilson Mesa are spectacular, captivating and visible from every room. Alpenglow one evening, moonrises over Mt. Wilson, watching the weather build up on the peaks. John was a wonderful host, very knowledgable about the local area and kindly arranging an opportunity for us to get a christmas tree. We cooked every night, the kitchen was well equipped and open plan so we could cook and spend time with each other and enjoying the view. Each morning we woke to see the tracks of the local wildlife in the snow.
We came to enjoy the cross country skiing in the Telluride area and found multiple spectacular well-groomed trails within 30 minutes drive of John's place. There are also many options to ski back-country routes.
During the week we stayed there was significant snowfall (several feet) and blizzard like conditions at times. John kept his driveway well plowed so we could always access the place and stayed in contact with us when the weather was hazardous. We had no trouble accessing the property in an all wheel drive SUV but did need to take it slow on the steeper parts of the county road that leads to Wilson Mesa.
The house is some distance from Telluride (about 25 minutes driving slowly on snow covered roads) and we enjoyed the solitude of staying outside of town during the really busy holiday period. Come here if you want a unique South West Colorado experience and a chance to connect with the landscape away from the condos and crowds of the ski resort.
4 of us (two adults, two teenagers) stayed for a week and it was a magnificent choice for us. The house is very comfortable and kitchen is fully stocked for those who prefer to cook instead of eat out. House is very unique - built to maximize the million dollar view from every room. The pictures absolutely do not do this place justice, the views are amazing and we have stayed in many VRBO houses all over the Western US. Wildlife right out your windows every day - elk, mule deer, horses. John was very accommodating and there was nothing we lacked. The house is about a 25 minute drive (only about 9 miles) from Telluride and off an unpaved (well-maintained) road. So, you have to decide what you want out of your rental, if you're the type that wants to go out to eat every night and be able to walk down the block somewhere and get coffee in the morning, then this is not the place for you. But, if starting your day with wildlife viewing watching the sunrise over an amazing view and concluding your day with a home-cooked meal and watching the Alpenglow light up the mountains, then you will not find a better spot.
3 of us stayed here for the Bluegrass Festival this year and this place was great! While it is a short drive outside of the town of Telluride, it's not far and the scenery along the way is excellent. You cannot beat the views at this house-- morning sunrise, evening sunset, late night star gazing... all absolutely stunning! We even saw the Int'l Space Station in the sky one night! The house itself is comfortable and really unique. There are a lot of neat things going on. After speaking with John, the owner, we learned a lot of cool stories about how he built the house and spent a lot of time planning out the layout and such. It's awesome to learn things like that when you stay somewhere as enchanting as this. It just adds to the overall charm of the Telluride experience. The open floor plan is nice, with the kitchen and living room central and the bedrooms on opposite sides. We were here in summer and during the day, if it's sunny, it can get warm (since there are windows all around) but opening the windows and letting the breeze come through made it absolutely perfect. We enjoyed making late night dinners and sitting out outside at night listening to music and watching the stars. Really had such a magical time! This was a really great home base for our vacation in Telluride-- and John is just a great guy-- would definitely book this place or any of the others he manages anytime. And PS. Telluride Bluegrass Festival is the best festival ever... awesome music, food, people, just everything was absolutely perfect! Thanks for having us, John!
My family of 7, from ages 6 months to 85 years old, loved our vacation at Alpen Glow. The house is beautiful, clean, and has a homey feeling. The owner is very helpful and very friendly. The furnishings are nice and everything is provided for you. The views are spectacular. Each room has a view of the mountains. You can see horses, elk, and mule deer grazing. You can see the sun rise and set on the mountains and you can see the thousands of stars twinkling in the sky at night. Your view from sitting on the couch is Mt. Wilson! We will definitely stay at this house when we return to Colorado. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our time in Colorado.
In the immediate area: Fishing in nearby streams, and X-C skiing right out the door.
