|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
Our vacation home is located in Sister Lakes Michigan, on Cable Lake. Sister Lakes is about a 2-hour drive form Chicago, Illinois, a 45 minutes drive from South Bend, Indiana and a 3-hour drive from Detroit, Michigan.
The vacation home is a 1600 sq. ft. ranch house with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a very large mudroom, large living room, large eat in kitchen, and a spacious 3 car driveway. There is also a sliding glass door with access to a deck from the kitchen and a view of the lake from the living room. The large backyard has plenty of space for campfires, barbecuing, playing games and catching lightning bugs.
Cable Lake is a private lake, approximately 100 acres in size, and is a non-motorized lake. This makes it perfect for swimming, floating on rafts, windsurfing, canoeing, paddle boating, sail boating and fishing. Cable Lake offers a sunny, sand-bottom swimming beach, with a pier, rafts, picnic tables, pavilion, large grassy play area, and a large shade tree. The swimming beach is only a ½ block walk from the house. There is also another beach, 2 blocks further, which has a fishing pier.
There are also several additional lakes that have public boat access for water skiing, tubing, and jet skiing within 10 minutes of the house. There are several marinas less than 5 minutes from the house.
This was our second time staying at the house and we had the most wonderfully relaxing time!! The kids LOVED being able to walk down to the public beach and we loved how clean it was. Everyone we met was very friendly and all of the kids played nicely together whether they were diggin in the sand or swimming out to the rafts!
The house was PERFECT for our family getaway!! We enjoyed doing puzzles, playing card games and relaxing out on the porch. We walked down to the fishing dock nightly and loved that we caught many bass, walleye, sunfish and bluegills! One of the neighbors even caught a Northern right of the dock!! We saw turtles, woodpeckers, butterflies and frogs and the kids were thrilled by it all!!
The kitchen is very well stocked and it was wonderful to be able to grill out every night on the gas grill!! We loved making smores around the camp fire and even though the house has central air we did not need it because at night there was a gorgeous breeze off the Lake that kept us cool and comfortable! The beds are all very comfortable and everyone slept soundly and late every day!!
The owners left a huge binder ful of information with things to do in the are and although we were familiar withthe surrounding areas we did share some of the info with our fellow neighbors and enjoyed going to pick blueberries and taking our children to Deer Forest! We ended our trip with a night at the local Drive In and stopped at Driftwood on the way out of town for one last tasty treat!
We look forward to coming back in 2012 and hope to stay longer!!!
Thanks Lolita & John for a lovely time in your cottage!!!
My family and I absolutely loved our stay at this summer home! The rooms were large especially the kitchen where we spent most of our time(it was a bit rainy for a couple of days.) There are several lakes with lots to do and a cute old fashioned icecream shop nearby. The lake is private so only owners and its renters use the lake which is really nice. There is a large yard with an huge gas grill. The fishing was pretty good especially since I fished with hard salami as bait. I caught fish after fish on the pier just a block down. There was a pause for about 30 minutes when I didn't catch anything because it was when the bass left and the catfish came. My only thing that I will do next time is bring a boat since they can not have one available for renters. John and Lolita were very accommodating and I can't wait to stay here again.
