About David Watt
We love living on Lake Michigan within the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. We look out onto the lake every day and it never grows old. This is a special spot to share with children and grand children.

Information for Guests Directions • 6860 West Harbor Highway (M-109) with a large W sign at the entrance to the driveway. • For directions search Watt Guesthouse on Google Maps. Phone: 231-334-3322 and cell: 314-452-9811. Parking • Please park in front of the guesthouse (the smaller building on the right as you come in the driveway) and leave clearance for the door to the ‘boat house’ beneath the guesthouse to be opened and accessed easily for bicycles and sails. • Pull in far enough that cars can pass easily behind your parked car. • If you have a second car, park to allow both cars to be parked in that space. • Walk up the ramp on the right (east) of the guesthouse. Beach access • Please walk across the driveway to the west side of the main house and garage. Walk the boardwalk on the west side of the property to the beach. Please do not walk on the east side of the property or walk in the beach grass between the house and the beach. • You are welcome to hang towels and bathing suits on the clothesline along the west side of the garage. • You are welcome to use the foot washer at the west entrance to the main house. • You are welcome to use the deck located near the beach. This is a shared area and we may use it, too. • You are welcome to use any of our beach chairs from the deck near the beach. Please replace them where you found them. • You may walk the beach beyond our property according to ‘riparian rights’. If you go beyond our 100’ beach, do not go into the beach grass or take time to sunbathe or linger very long. The western (left when facing the lake) side of our lot begins just a few feet west of the boardwalk and extends 100’ to the east. • You are responsible for your own safety in and around the water. We suggest that you do not swim alone; waves can be surprising. Children should not be on the beach without parental supervision. • The fire pit is available: Do not build a fire when strong winds might blow sparks onto the nearby grass or a plastic boat. Have a five-gallon bucket (available at the garage) filled at least half full at the fire pit together with the large squirt gun (also available at the garage) before starting the fire. Be ready to use the squirt gun if you see a spark going beyond the fire pit. Put the fire out with water when you are finished. Tools for cooking over the fire are available on request. • Our boats are not included in the rental and should not be used. Toilet • For a complete flush, please hold the lever down until the bowl is empty. • We are on a septic tank that can process only biodegradable waste. Shower • If the mats get wet, hang them on the shower door to dry. Bathroom electric outlets • If the electricity fails, reset the ground fault interrupter. If that fails to solve the problem, then call us. WiFi • Name is ‘Outhouse’ and password is 2313343322. Noise • Please be aware that noise travels further than one may expect and our neighbors are sensitive, particularly in the morning. Door lock • On the inside, shut the door completely and lift the knob-lever up until it seats. The door must be fully closed for this to happen. Do not force this! When this lever is up and seated, turn the lock for privacy. • We do not lock the guesthouse. If you feel that you must lock it while you are away, please ask for a key. As with locking from the inside, the door must be completely closed and the lever must be raised to seat before turning the lock. Again, do not force this. Garbage • A 30 gallon black plastic garbage container is just inside the door of the ‘boat house’ beneath the guesthouse. This is for your trash if you need to empty a wastebasket during your visit. You do not need to empty the trash when you depart. Grill with side-burner • This is shared; so check to confirm that we are not using it when you wish to use it. • Turn on the gas at the main gas supply valve; then turn on the gas to a grill burner and press the spark button to light the grill. When finished, turn off all valves on the grill and the main valve on the gas supply to the grill. • Preheat the grill before cooking. • Scrape and brush the cooking surfaces using tools in the cabinet beneath the grill. • If you need more than the spatula supplied in your kitchen, please ask. • You are also welcome to use the picnic table on the porch near the grill. Again, this is shared and we occasionally use it too. Departing on your final day • Departure time is 10:00 a.m. so that we can clean and prepare for the next renter who may arrive as early as 2:00 p.m. Check with us if you would enjoy a more leisurely departure because the cleaning may be scheduled for later in the day. • Please leave the kitchen, including utensils and plates, clean and ready for the next renter to use. Practice the golden rule. • If you have made spots on the rug, please use the rug cleaner stored under the kitchen sink and follow the instructions to remove the spots. Focus on blotting, rather than rubbing. A vacuum cleaner is stored in the closet for dry spills. • Please let us know if something needs repair or special cleaning or if you see something that could be improved. This is our home and we care about it. • Please check with us before your departure to let us confirm that there are no damages. • We hope that your stay in our guesthouse was pleasant and we will make an effort to say farewell in person. • Thank you for taking good care of our guesthouse. Great relaxing experience!!
Very nice location right on the water! My wife and I and our two children had plenty of room. Short walk or bike into town to grab food or supplies. I would Highly Recommend for a relaxing getaway. David greeted us and was very friendly.
Wonderful guest house in an absolutely gorgeous location with a quick walk into town. The house was larger than we expected and we kept the windows open our entire stay - the breeze off the lake made for a great temperature in the house. David was easy to communicate with and his wife dropped off gorgeous flowers for us upon our arrival! The neighbors were very nice and gave us a delicious off-the-beaten path restaurant recommendation. Being able to wake up in the morning and see the water was an added perk. Appreciated the detailed instructions! Thank you for the wonderful (last minute) get-away!!!
Perfect spot in a fun area for our visit.
Website was not intuitive. But overall it worked
Very clean and great location
Great studio-type guest house. Located right on Lake Michigan and walking distance to downtown Glenn Arbor. Owners are real friendly and very responsive if any needs may arise. 2 adults and 2 kids under 13 were comfortable. Would rent again.
Very good stay.
Clean and consistent with the description. We enjoyed the firepit and gas grill, too.
We look out onto Lake Michigan and the Manitou Islands. The beach can be enjoyed for walking and sun bathing.
