David McCollough purchased this cabin in 1999
David fell in love with this secluded log cabin the moment he walked inside in 1999. He bought it on the spot. It has been a special place for him ever since. He is proud to say 99.9% of all folks who have rented it feel the same way, because most of them are repeat renters year after year.
This cabin contains NO sheetrock. It is log inside and out. The floor to ceiling windows in the main room boast amazing views of the mountains and forest surrounding the cabin. The deck on 3 sides of the cabin is 8 feet deep giving plenty of room to be outside and enjoy the amazing Colorado atmosphere. Standing on the deck you are almost 9,000 feet up in the Rocky Mountains! There are 2 fabulous easy hiking trails on national forest within 10 minutes of the cabin... Meridian Trail and Tanglewood Trail.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the cabin. We used the wood-burning stove multiple times and the hot tub was super great and relaxing. The wrap around deck is awesome and we loved leaving wild bird seed for the birds and squirrels. We also saw a fox on the deck one evening! We would have appreciated some restaurant referrals, we had a hard time finding any place good nearby. Also, the owner mentioned bringing sugar for the hummingbird feeders but we couldn't find the feeders?
We had a wonderful stay at Deer Creek Cabin. We enjoyed being so close to the wildlife and mountain scenery. Blue jays, chickadees, squirrels, and deer are just a few of the critters we could watch from the deck or living room windows. I would highly recommend this cabin. We loved the ability to bring our dogs with us as well. The hot tub and stars just added to the relaxed and peaceful feeling we had at the end of each day.
The Deer Creek Cabin is exactly what you are looking for if you desire a true Rocky Mountain Experience. It is a quaint log cabin way up in the mountains with glorious views from both inside, and out on the deck. It comes equipped with everything you need, and we did not miss one thing from civilization. We grilled, watched the hummingbirds, watched the snow melt off of the peaks of the mountains, and just enjoyed the serenity. There was not one negative aspect to our stay there. The cabin was exactly what I envisioned when I craved the mountains for the Memorial Weekend. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Second time at this place- it's secluded but not remote, has wood burning fire and hot tub, as well as an authentic cabin feel. Highly recommend!
My now-Husband and I stayed here for our Honeymoon for three glorious days. We arrived right after a spring snow storm had come in and dropped about 2 feet of snow in Bailey! The hot tub was ready to go when we arrived, thank you for that, David! It was the fist thing we did!! We could not have asked more of a beautiful view of the snowy mountains and snow covered trees. My husband and I felt so relaxed in what seemed like a big tree house. I had a fun time bird watching and identifying the local chickadees and the black-billed magpie. We were VERY sad to leave on the day of our departure. It was nice to call this place home for a couple of days.
The cabin was clean, comfy, and inviting; well-stocked with kitchen appliances/pots/pans dishes etc. This cabin is perfect for a couple or a couple with a child. Though the temperature outside got down to 30 some nights, we had no problem keeping warm with the space heaters and the wood burning stove.
Thank you, David for a wonderful and memorable time in your beautiful cabin!
A 4-day rental of this cabin was my Christmas gift to my wife. It easily became the best gift I've ever given her. What a wonderful little retreat.
The owner had everything ready before we arrived, including such great touches as turning up the heat in the hot tub and leaving enough split wood and fire starters to get the wood stove up and running quickly (the cabin was already warm enough from regular heat, but the wood stove is great--we kept a fire blazing the whole time).
The beautiful birds on the deck, deer running across the yard, and a full-time gorgeous view were all highlights of the trip.
Would recommend this place wholeheartedly.

Hiking: You are only minutes from great hiking trail heads in the Pike National Forest from Deer Creek Cabin. You'll see those signs as you drive to the cabin. We have hiked the Rosalie Trail, the Tanglewood Trail and the Meridian Trail, all close to the cabin.
Fishing: If you are a fisherman there is no doubt that you have heard of South Park. Even back in the old days, South Park fishing and hunting had reached the ears of people in distant lands. They came from as far away as England and Ireland to enjoy the plentiful bounty of the Park. South Park is the name and fishing is the game.
Skiing: You are 1.5 hours from Breckenridge Ski Resort. Take I-285W to Fairplay, then Hwy. 9 through Hoosier Pass to Breckenridge. You are also only 2 hours from Winter Park. Take I-285W East toward Denver to Conifer, turn right there to Evergreen to I-70 and follow a map from there.
Whitewater Rafting: We enjoy River Runners. Their Fisherman's Bridge office is located on the banks of the Arkansas River just 5 miles south of Buena Vista on US Hwy 285. With gentle waters, awesome scenery and exciting rapids this section of river offers something for people of all ages and abilities.
