Family Get away!

Nice fishing cottage! Perfect for our summer break (four adults and 2 boys). The boys (7 and 4.5) had a great time playing in the water, shallow but grassy. The dogs loved the front bedroom with the window overlooking the deck and water. Close to Sylvan Beach & Sprint car races. Clean and comfortable, very quiet during the week! Kitchen small but functional. Will be back!!

Well Satisfies

  • 4 of 5

We had a very nice stay, the house was very clean and Dale was very helpful

when we arrived, would recommend to anyone that is looking to take a fishing trip to Oneida. We had plenty of parking for our boats and trailers and electric to charge our batteries. We plan another trip later this summer.

Thanks to Dale

Bass Tournament

This was an Ok property on a Beautiful Lake! This location is great for fishermen needing a place to crash for a week. The dock was great for keeping the boat in the water for a week. When we arrived nobody was around to greet us, we called the owner but had no response. We waited outside the house for over 30 minutes until we found the door was unlocked and we let ourselves in. We meet the owner the following day, it was a bit uncomfortable being someplace you have not even paid for at that point. The house has a had a lot of character as most older homes do. There is 3 bedrooms that sleep 7 comfortably and 2 large sofa's. We brought all of our own sheets, towels and blankets so we didn't have to use the ones they provide. We did have to go out and purchase mattress pads, the bed were not comfortable. During our stay it was extremely hot, the air conditioner was nice to have but didn't work very well until we took the filter out and cleaned it. We also cleaned the fan that was provided, it had years worth of dust stuck to the blades. We also repaired the screen in the back door so the bugs wouldn't get in the house. The garbage cans outside were overflowing and stunk when we arrived, we couldn't use them until the garbage was picked up on Thursday. The deck out back was great for watching the sunrise, but we had to scrub the chairs and tables before we could use them, if I had a can of paint I would have painted the deck while I was there. The washer and dryer are a great added feature as well as the ice maker in the freezer. It was nice to be able to bring our pets. I waited 2 months for my deposit back when I contacted the owner. I just received a partial deposit minus a cleaning fee! It said that we left dog hair all over the carpets, we swept and vacuumed daily, we even had to clean the vacuum. They deducted for spills under the drawers in the refrigerator, those were there when we arrived. It also states that we didn't clean up after the dogs in the yard, I disagree I even purchased a shovel. Maybe it was the dog wandering the neighborhood all week. Also the owner needs to put out mouse traps to catch the mice running around the house, we even found a dead mouse in the trash can in the bedroom! Gross!!!

Despite everything we had a nice week! The house is in a cute neighborhood, my daughter made a few friends. The lake was beautiful! It was close to shopping.

Owner's Response: The property was checked immediately after check-out.The conditions were not consistent with check-in conditions. Not being responsible for cleaning up after your pets, will result in deductions from cleaning deposit.I pay a cleaning person to inspect between check-out and check-in.And to clean if necessary to insure clean property for your check-in.Some renters fall way short of cleaning to pre check-in condition.Others do very well.Standards and policies have to be set and maintained to insure a clean property for my renters upon check-in.

Decent summer spot

  • 3 of 5

Although we also had the main bedroom that smelled bad, I told Dale when we left and he said he would address it. That was the only issue we had. It rained more than once and nothing leaked at all. The windows that had screens opened just fine. The air conditioner was a blessing as was the ice maker. The HBO and Show was nice for the kids because we could always find a movie before bed. There was wood for a fire and fresh water for showers. The grill was great and there was plenty of outdoor seating for our guests. The lake is pretty weedy and shallow there so while the kids liked swimming the adults chose to take our boat to the lake and swim. However, I did see others swimming and floating so it just depends on your personal choice of whether you can swim in weeds or not. Lastly, a canoe was provided so the kids used that a bunch as well. Overall, we had a great time and it was a typical lake house for a summer vacation. Nothing spectacular but nothing horrible either and it was nice having the washer and dryer when swimming clothes got stinky :-)

Although we didn't expect the rental to be a "palace," we were not prepared for one of the bedrooms to smell like a dead animal was it it. Even with sprays, air fresheners and an air purifier, it still reeked. Sleeping on an air mattress was better than sleeping on the one bed that felt like the springs were going to give out at any moment. The fan was sooooo dirty and greasy, that we took it apart to clean it even before we unpacked. Let's not forget when it rained, the hallway flooded which ran into the kitchen and then the laundry room roof leaked all over our paper goods. None of the windows were opened either because they didn't or they were bug infested and we did not want to open them. Two of the 3 dressers had broken drawers which meant they had to be removed and placed on the floor so we had access to our clothes. We made the best of a bad situation, but we would never return or recommend this rental to others.

Owner's Response: I the owner live next door to the rental.Only one complaint was received from this party the two weeks they were there.A problem with the docks was repaired within the hour.I did agree one of the twin beds needed a new matress and has since been replaced with a new one.The windows are all in good working order and easily opened, had they tried. And certainly are not bug infested. The dresser drawers were all intact before their arrival. After their departure the sheet set for the master bedroom bed was nowhere to be found.I had to purchase a new set before the next party arrived.I am sure it was just an oversight on their part!!!As for any rain coming in, we have had many flood watch warnings, and unusual heavy rains this summer.I apoligize for any water coming in it is lakefront property and we do get some minimal flooding. There is a mop provided in the house. Had they requested,I would have mopped for them if it was neccesary. They must not have noticed, because they failed to mop the floors before they checked out.All floors were clean at their check in.This a nice clean, modern property, and I respond to all my guests needs. You can draw your own conclusions about this guests comments.
