A very unique home tucked in the woods in the Laurel Highlands. Sandy Pines Hide Away overlooks a rippling stream and offers supreme privacy for any family, group of friends, or romantic getaway.
Very nice getaway and really close to Ohiopyle. The house is bigger than what the pictures show. Beds are really comfortable. Hot tub was nice to get into especially after a nice long day of hiking at Ohiopyle. Would definitely come back again.
The house has a lot of charm and character! It was perfect for my wifes birthday we had all the kids come in from different parts of the East coast and there was plenty of room. To those with the negative revIews about it being musty.. Its an old home in the middle of a damp forest!!! Once we opened the windows it was gone after a few hours. The mattresses were surprisingly comforatble, at least in our bed (downstairs bedroom) I didnt ask the kids but no one complained. The location is perfect, relatively secluded and the owner was easy going and accommodating.
My family and I spent the weekend in this house and we were quite disappointed. As soon as we walked in the door, we smelled a musty scent. In the basement there appeared to be mold growing all over the walls. I have washed all the things I brought and have aired everything outside, but still cannot escape the stink of the house. While the house was relatively clean inside, it was painful being inside because of the odor. We brought lots of food to cook, but had to go out to eat to escape the smell of the house. The patio was ok, but we were surprised the "firepit" was rusty and broken. There was another fire area on the grass, but it was littered with wet paper, rusty metal, a crushed beer can and a gross Q-tip. Clearly the outside was not cleaned before our arrival. Though we used it, it could have been made safer with some sort of brick or rock border. The beds were comfortable and the stream and pond were nice for the kids to explore. The water cooler was a nice bonus in the house. We had a great time rafting and spending time at the state park. The Cucumber Falls were beautiful.
We recently stayed here for a week with two children under five, and five adults. What drew me to this property was some seclusion with space for the entire family so we could really enjoy each other's company, and I was not disappointed. The house was large enough that we each had our own space. Nearly every room has a nice bed or two or pull out couch (one even had a murphy bed). The bedrooms felt comfortable and the there were plenty of places for all of us to gather: a nice living room with comfortable couches and fireplace, a separate dining room with a closet full of games, a great back patio with picnic table, grill, and fire pit, a great hot tub porch overlooking the forest, and a front porch with two gliding love seats. The property felt secluded and woodsy, but was only a fifteen minute drive from everything we wanted to do in Ohiopyle. My children loved exploring the stream and frog pond on the property, and the adults loved sitting in the hot tub after our full days of adventuring around Ohiopyle. Almost everything we could need around the house was provided: cups, plates, silverware, pots and pans, basic condiments, towels, and bedding. There is also a laundry machine in the basement next to a sweet air hockey table. The wifi was nice, and though we did not use the satellite television much, it was nice to have on a rainy morning. There are two bathrooms, and one of them has a shower. Some very picky people may find some faults (smallish kitchen, some missing finishing touches around the rooms), but to me it felt like the perfect solution for a group wanting a back-to-nature experience while still having some great amenities for all ages.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this property for a family or group that wants a healthy mix of beautiful nature and wildlife with enough space and comforts to make you really feel like you are on vacation.
We absolutely loved the house. It had a nice rustic feel being so tucked away in the woods. It was very quiet and peaceful and filled with everything we needed. I really liked that there were so many condiments and amenities that I could use and not need to supply. The house was spacious, beautifully preserved, well situated and centrally located for us between all the activities we wanted and our family members living in the area. We would definitely return again.
