This 2 unit two family home has been completely renovated in 2008/9. It has two side by side apartments with a shared front porch, private back patios, and a large shared backyard. One apartment has 3 bedrooms (Queen, Full, Twin) and 1.5 bathrooms. The other has 2 bedrooms (Queen, Queen) and 1.5 bathrooms.
The house is situated on a quiet residential street just a five minute walk from the beach. Each apartment has brand new kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures, refinished hardwood floors, tile, skylights, and contemporary decor. There is off street parking for five to six cars total.
This property has problems for renters. One side of the house has a microwave but it did not work. The other side does not have a microwave
Smoke alarms caused problems. There is a smoke alarm in each bedroom and kitchen. These smoke alarms are all wired together so when one smoke alarm goes off (such as if a toaster in a kitchen sets one off) they all go off. This can be quite frightening.
Paint on most of the doors is peeling.
The floors (bare wood) are crudely finished.
The Wi-Fi did not work all the time.
Everything was as it describes except it was not as clean as it should be when renting to guests. We let that slide because the owner was nice and we liked the location. The last night we were there upon coming home from dinner a Bat swooped over our heads and flew around the downstairs. We called the police they came and killed it. AT 3:30 in the morning another Bat was discovered flying around in the dark in my sisters room. We called the police again and they came and were unable to catch the second Bat. So upon the officers advice we gathered up our belongings and went to the airport early. Needless to say we were upset. The owner was not available to help us out and has not ever responded to my correspondence regarding this matter. So overall the description of the property was accurate but it was not clean. I do not think the owner provided good customer service in not returning any calls or emails to talk about the Bat situation. I would not recommend the property to a friend or relative. We enjoyed the local beaches and restaurants and surrounding areas.
This South Portland duplex was perfect for our 2 family vacation. It is very clean, comfortable and all household needs are included, even dishsoap. The owner is quick to respond to any problems or requests that come up. The beach is a quick walk away and the bakery that is nearby has great coffee and fresh bagels. The area is beautiful and the access to Portland is easy and offers shops, restaurants, boat trips, etc. A really great vacation spot!
We rented both sides of the house for our family vacation. The house is located on a quiet street with plenty of parking and walking distance to the beach and bakery. Having laundry available was fantastic, and a split house allowed people to be on both sides and do their own things. Portland offers many great sites, restaurants, etc and this house was a great launching point for each of our day trips. We really couldn't have asked for a better experience!
My group of 9 friends and I rented both townhouses for an almost weeklong stay in July. We came from all over the U.S. for a friend's wedding and we couldn't have been happier with this rental. Between the two kitchens, the backyard and the great location, we were set for a great week of chilling out. This is a great house to cook in, it's a quick walk to the beach and a quick walk to the coffee shop (which we did almost daily). The owner was pleasant and kept everything simple for us, which we appreciated. We love the Smith Street house!
The home was a perfect fit for us. The neighborhood was delightful -- a quick walk to an ideal bakery/coffee shop -- and a quick drive to all that we wanted to see. It was our first trip to the area and we certainly enjoyed ourselves! I would heartily recommend this home to families and/or groups who are seeking a place where you can relax in community with one another. The home is tastefully appointed and very comfortable. All in our group of 5 were very happy with our destination!

All within walking distance to the house you will find an ice cream shop, a couple convenience stores, an outstanding artisanal bakery, and several local eateries which range from pizza and sandwiches to fine dining.
