Northcliffe cottage, built in the early 1900s, commands magnificent
views to the North, East and West over its rock-bound shore line.
This waterfront property is located on the northern shore of the
Island, a seven minute drive from the ferry landing. There are 3
bedrooms upstairs and a kitchen, living room, dining room and bathroom
& shower downstairs which open onto a (partially screened in)
wrap-around porch . The cottage is accessible from the parking area
down a short dirt pathway for the nimble or a longer grass pathway for
the less sure-footed.
My wife and I live in New Hampshire and own 3 properties on Peaks Island since the 1960's. 2 of the cottages are for personal use and we rent the third one full time during the summer season.
David G. Haeger purchased this cottage in 1968
This cottage is the largest of the 3 we own and lends itself to rentals. It is up to local building code requirements and is beautifully situated.
It is close to a private beach which we have permission to use. It is located in a quiet section of the island along with other cottages of the same early 1900's vintage. We rent on a weekly basis only.
We had a wonderful time at Northcliffe. The weather was perfect also, beautiful days sitting on the screened in porch looking across the bay to the islands. The cottage was neat clean and cozy and had everything you need to be comfortable. Peaks is a fun place to visit lots of places to walk and enjoy the outdoors. Thanks David and Mary for letting us come and stay again G & S.
We had a wonderful time at Northcliffe!
The description of the view does no justice! It was fabulous! Whether you were sitting on the screened porch (no bugs!) or playing with the kids on the "front lawn" the views across the bay and to the Diamond Islands was breathtaking!
The cottage was very well kept and clean and exactly what I would've expected. If your looking for "luxury" accommodations, look elsewhere, this cottage was campy, kitschy and cute! It was like walking into your grandma's cottage that had been in the family for years! We loved it's character!
We are a young family with a toddler and we had friends and family and kids in and out all week with no problems.
We cooked quite a bit in the kitchen, which was equipped with everything we needed (including everything to cook and eat lobsters!)
You do need to bring (or rent) linens, but the cottage was equipped with lots of blankets to take the chill off during those cool nights! They also had a few fans just in case.
There was a wonderful small private beach a very short walk away. The beach was perfect to just hang out at or to take kayaks out of! All the children had a great time going there or stopping half-way to climb along the rocks when the tide was out.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The whole Haeger Family was wondeful and accommodating hosts who made sure we were not in need of anything during our whole stay!
We had a wonderful time at Northcliff, the camp was expected as advertised. David and Mary were great hosts, they even offered to bring us back to camp if we were going to leave our car down front in line for the ferry boat back to Portland. We enjoyed the beautiful view of Casco bay islands, watching the boats go by. Even had a lobster boat pull traps out in front of our cottage. Thanks for a great vacation,we hope to visit again.
