About Gaylene de Weijer
My family and I love this lake and area because of its proximity to all the things we love to do like water sports, mountain biking, white water rafting, and just relaxing on this beautiful 30 mile long wilderness lake.
Gaylene de Weijer purchased this House Boat in 2015
Why Gaylene de Weijer chose Robbinsville
We loved the idea of being totally off the grid and living on solar power. It is a little like glamping where you have all the comforts of a solid roof over your head in inclement weather but can still relax with movies and games while cooking and grilling under cover. There is very little boat traffic in the area and the water is perfect for swimming in the summer. Locals love this area as there is great fishing in this lake especially during the cooler months.
What makes this House Boat unique
My husband and I love the super comfortable bed and the spacious slate tiled shower. My favorite thing to do at night is relax with my favorite beverage, watch the moon rise over the mountains, and then watch a movie powered by the sun!

Perfect every time
We are repeat visitors to this fantastic floating house. It is adorable, well-equipped (seriously), and ideally located if you're looking for peace, quiet, and stargazing on Fontana Lake. Very few boats pass by and the only visitors you'll get are of the duck variety, so plan to bring cracked corn for them (bread isn't good for them) and enjoy their individual personalities. We paddled our own canoe over from the Oros launch and it took about 45 minutes with a fully loaded canoe (towing a loaded paddleboard) and a light headwind. Plan to bring a light blanket if you'd like to take advantage of the night breezes through open windows. Perfect sleeping temperature! We hope to return every year to recharge at the floating house. You won't regret a visit here.
Property was just as described. Absolutely adorable lake house with plenty of amenities. View is amazing and everyone we met was so nice and welcoming. Owner was very quick to respond to any questions. We can't wait to return.
Adventure and Tranquility
This was exactly the kind of vacation we needed. It was such an amazing experience to leave the world behind for a few days while we escaped to this beautiful home floating atop the quiet lake. My favorite part was the adventure of getting to paddle to our destination. Gaylene's directions were great and we were thrilled that she let us borrow her canoe. The house had absolutely everything that we needed. We loved cooking out on the grill and floating in the lake during the day, and then watching the DvDs and playing the board games that were provided in the evenings. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals, the bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, and the solar power was plenty sufficient to power everything we needed. It really was a dreamy vacation and we will definitely return soon. Thank you Gaylene!
A Relaxing and Fun Experience
Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 Children) recently stayed on this cute little boat house. We had such a great time! Communication with Gaylene about the property was very clear, detailed and easy to follow. We utilized the provided canoe at Oros Landing and also brought a small inflatable boat with motor to transport our food and clothing. The experience is kind of like camping in an RV, but on the water! It was great to be able to walk out the door and dive into the water, or go kayaking around the cove! We especially enjoyed fishing from the deck and playing games on the picnic table. Not having wifi or cell service was actually bonus for us because it meant we spent more time interacting with each other. We did have some rainy weather, so we were very glad that we brought a small foldable camping table to use indoors for meals and games. The view of the lake and mountains from the boat house is breathtaking! We can't wait to return to this special place again!! Thank you, Gaylene, for a wonderful weekend getaway for my family!!
Great place on the water...
This is a lovely little place on the water. It was so nice to disconnect for a few days (no cell service). We really enjoyed our time fishing off the deck and feeding the ducks. Gaylene was a wonderful host. We hope to stay there again!
Luxury Lake Camping
The guest before us did not properly wash the dishes so we had to rewash a lot of kitchen items, and which caused us to run out of solar power. Other than that, the boathouse is surrounded by breathtaking views with endless amounts of activities. The boathouse has a homey feel while still having the camping atmosphere. Definitely will consider coming back to the place and exploring more of the area.
