3 bedroom villa, to sleep 6 in picturesque Portiragnes, close to beaches

Villa Devanha has three bedrooms one being a mezzanine, sleeping up to 6/7 persons in designated bedrooms. The villa overlooks vineyards and is located in a development with a swimming pool, on the edge of the charming village of Portiragnes, full of character and dominated by its XII Century Church.

The Canal du Midi (World Heritage site and travelled by Rick Stein in the BBC series 'French Oddessy') is close by, as well as the family orientated 'blue flagged' long sandy beach at Portiragnes Plage, only a few minutes drive away. The view from the beach, which is not overdeveloped, stretches from Cap d'Agde down to the Spanish border.

Villa Devanha, has been furnished to a high standard. The patio terrace, is accessed up a very short flight of steps with a secure gate, where you will find a spacious, partly shaded terrasse, with planting and garden furniture (consisting of a large table with 6 chairs and a sun umbrella together with assorted sun beds/lilos). There is a private car park space (114) adjacent to the villa.

From the patio terrasse, you enter into the ground floor of the villa via French patio doors. The ground floor consists of Lounge/Dining Room with wood burning stove, open Fitted Kitchen, Double Bedroom and Bathroom with bath and shower. The first floor is accessed by a pine staircase, leading to a Twin Bedroom, and a Mezzanine with a double bed and a futon. The Lounge which opens out onto the terrasse with open views over the vineyards, consists of two 3 seater sofas, sideboard with CD/Radio/DVD Player/DigitalTV/ i Pod Player and coffee table.

The fitted Kitchen is well equipped with a 4 plate halogen hob with extraction fan, combination microwave/grill/oven, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge and freezer and all necessary crockery and utensils. Fans are located throughout the villa.

The centre of the village is a short stroll away with all its essential amenities - restaurants, cafes, three bakers, butchers, tabac, post office, small but well stocked supermarket, vin caves, medical centre and pharmacy with a cash point next to the Marie

A choice of Hypermarkets (Geant, Auchan, Hyper U, Carrefour) are all within a 10-15 minutes drive from Villa Devanha. Within close proximity are the old port of Agde, the marina at Cap d'Adge and the medieval town of Beziers, with its railway links.

Also, within approximately 30 minutes drive are, Sete (with it's Sunday joisting regattas) Pezenas (with it's wonderful Saturday market), Narbonne (with it's imposing cathedral) and Montpellier (with its international airport and Ryanair and Easy Jet flights).

Carcassonne, Perpignan and Nimes (all with budget airline connections) are about 1 hour drive away, and Barcelona over 2 hours drive away.

Only 10 minutes away is Beziers airport, where Ryanair fly into from Bristol, Luton, Manchester, Dusseldorf Weeze, Oslo Rygge and Stockholm Stavska. Flybe also fly in season from Southampton, with connections to Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle and Jersey.

peaceful holiday

a pleasant villa in a nice area, the villa is clean and well presented. the patio is private to chill out in the evening with a glass of wine and a BBQ. the views over open countyside & vineyards, you can walk to the village for baguettes or an evening meal in couple of nice resaurants. A short drive will get you to the beach area with more restaurants, the supermarkets are also a short drive away. days out in either Beziers, Narbonne or Montpellier are worth a try. After four visits & another one planned it is a place to chill out.

very disappointed

Arriving late at night we drove the country lanes surrounded by fields to arrive at a mass concrete complex, not sure how many units but noted parking spaces numbered to 154, of which 6 are directly in front of the villa. The entry to the villa through French doors is charming, though once inside you soon realise how small the lounge/dining/kitchen area is (I use the word 'dining' loosely as the table cannot be erected without having to move a sofa to open the dining table and move the chairs from under the stairs), the kitchen is open but very small and overall downstairs felt claustrophobic to us. Other than the French doors, no windows in the lounge/dining/kitchen area.

The bedroom downstairs is a reasonable size double bedroom, the bathroom average with the shower over the bath and a shower head that had to be held to be used. Upstairs there are two bedroom areas, the first a bedroom with 2 single beds, standing in between the beds you soon realise how the roof closes in on one side, to get onto the bed next to the exterior wall I could touch the roof with my head, I stand 170cm. The mezzanine area is large in comparison to downstairs, though to move to the far side of the double bed, the roof to floor space is similar at the bed end to the upstairs bedroom. The pine stairs are extremely steep and narrow; with the single beds upstairs and the toilet downstairs we held concerns for our young kids safety should they have needed the toilet in the night.

We do not believe the terrace view is accurately represented by the photo. The photo on this site is from the middle to far side of car park, there is no real view while sitting at the terrace table, while standing the actual view is of car spaces, to the left the entry boom gate, industrial rubbish bin area and postboxes, over this you will see the fields.

We departed after one night.

After contacting the owner to express our views, he stated the villa was correctly represented on the site. We forfeited our remaining 9 nights’ accommodation and found an alternative more suitable family villa, of which there are many in this beautiful area.

Owner's Response: The photographs and description of Devanha are absolutely correct and represent the property and it's outlook, as well as having googlemap references. In 10 years of renting the property, this is the first time such an attacking response has been received. It is unfortunate that a customer who received a discounted rental, has been disappointed by their own mis-conceptions, rather than undertaking sufficient research and google map references. There is no mass concrete, but Catalan style houses with pantiled roofs. Why rent somewhere that is a concern for your "kids" - the open pinewood staircase is seen in a photograph on the website, and the bathroom is clearly stated as being on the ground floor, yet the kids obviously slept in the upstairs bedroom rather than the ground floor one next to the bathroom. The post boxes and refuge area are not in front of the property but well over to the left within an enlosure at the barrier entrance - one has to delibrately look for it behind a shrub. Oh and they are not industrial, but typical of communes in France and communities in the UK There is a view over the vineyards both from a seated and standing position, both on the terrace and from the lounge area and ground floor bedroom, but the bbq and honeysuckle does get in the way in some places!! Devanha is competitively priced for it's location and size, on the edge of a beautiful village overlooking vineyards with convenient parking adjacent, and close to the Med beaches. It has a fully equiped kitchen and a communal swimming pool. It is of concern that these customers resorted to emailing on the 3rd July 2013 to state "While hoping to avoid doing so by agreeing a refund, we feel it necessary to .... post a detailed review of our experience", SO. there you have their reason for their "claustrophobic" review !! BUT would note that our vast majority of renters LOVE the place (some returning on a number of occasions, even this year) So, something must be right! Please read previous customer's reviews, and see the photgraphs for what you really get.

Excellent property in beautiful area of France.

We have rented this property for 3 consecuitve summer holidays. Why - beacuse the property is well maintained and in a beautiful area of France. It is in a quiet complex of houses with a safe and well maintained pool. The house and terrace has a magnificent view overlooking vineyards and delivers that peace and tranquility we all search for with our precious holidays. The last 2 holidays (End August) we managed to eat every meal outside on the terrace.

It is on the edge of a beautiful village, Portoraignes with some quiet restuarants. It is just 5 miles from the beach and buiser costal resort of Portoraignes Plage which has events most nights and a wider choice of restuarants. This distance was a benefit not a hinderance as most days, whilst we went to the beach, it was always nicer to escape back to the quieter ambiance of Portoraignes village.

For those days with less pleasant weather there are plenty of choices for good days out. Our favourite was a village called Roqueburne with a great river to swim in and canoeing.

In the 3 years we have rented the property we have found the owners delightful to deal with. Furtermore the agents who look after their property, live accross the road, are friendly and happy to advise on local events/sites not to be missed. Our children are 5 years and 15 years and they both loved the place.

Gemütliches Ferienhaus

Wir, 5köpfige Familie, sind im Sommer 2012 und im Sommer 2013 jeweils 2 Wochen in der Villa Devanha gewesen. Es hat uns beim ersten Mal so gut gefallen, dass wir im Jahr darauf nochmal gebucht haben. Sandy ist ein sehr netter Vermieter, der Kontakt war hervorragend. Das Haus ist sehr schön, gut ausgestattet und sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet. In der Küche fehlt nichts, die Schlafzimmer sind ebenfalls gemütlich. Die Terasse ist geräumig und läd ein zum Grillen und schönen Abenden. Unsere Kinder haben den Gemeinschaftspool sehr genossen. Das Haus liegt im Eingangsbereich des Parks und etwas abgewandt von allen anderen Häusern, man hat nicht das Gefühl, dass man mit vielen in einer Anlage wohnt. Von der Terasse hat man einen sehr schönen Blick auf die gegenüberliegenden Weinberge. Es war sehr ruhig und entspannend. Wir haben uns zweimal sehr wohl gefühlt. Danke Sandy ! Sabine

Villa Devanha - Very nice vacation

We have spent two fantastic weeks in villa devanha this July 2012. The Villa is comparable with a two story townhouse located in a nice housing area. Entrance to the area is secured by a barrier and is only possible to renters. The pool is just two minutes away and the kids liked it a lot. The nicely furnished house is equipped with pretty much everything you need during your vacation. Linen and towels are rentable and in good condition. The parking lot is situated directly in front of the terrace.

From the holiday park at Portiragne it is just a 5 minute drive to Portiragne plage where found very easily a free of charge parking spot close to the beach. The beach is very nice and not too crowded. We can recommend the churros which you can buy at the snack bar close to the parking lot. The market at Portiragne Plage is nice to see and to find fresh veggies and fruits.

We liked our stay at villa Devanha a lot and will probably book it again next year!!!

The Languedoc Roussilon area has a tremendous variety of opportunities. From the charming and picturesque villages in the mountainous hinterland to the long unspoilt sandy Mediterranean beaches, there are vineyards to explore, medieval castles, cathedrals and other historical places of interest. Carcassonne Cite, Narbonne cathedral, historical Beziers, Agde and Pezenas (with it's antique shops and artists quarter) together with cultural Montpellier are all within easy reach of the villa.

There are golf courses close by at both Beziers and Cap d'Agde, and along the Mediterranean coast, there is horseriding, beach activities (tennis, bike hire, sailing), fun parks (Vias), boat cruising on the Canal du Midi, and open air concerts (in season). Not forgetting in all the surrounding towns and villages there are wonderful open air markets to explore, including the Friday Flower Market in Beziers.
