Loir-et-Cher Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Self-catering cottage, sleeps four, with patio and access to garden.

Recently re-advertised after a year off the market for family reasons, this attractive cottage is on one end of a traditional stone-built Longere, 'Le Clos St Vincent' occupied by the proprietors. It consists of a bright living /dining room with adjoining open kitchen, shower room with WC, and upstairs, a double bedroom which also has a single bed and space for a cot if needed, plus a twin bedroom. The bedrooms feature the original roof beams of this part of the house, which was converted from what was originally a stable attached to the main house. The open-plan kitchen has an electric oven, gas hob with hood, and fridge, and is fully equipped with coffee maker, kettle, crockery, pots pans and cutlery. Free use is offered of the laundry facilities in the adjoining laundry room. In the living room there is a television with DVD player. Outside, there is a sheltered, sun-filled patio corner with table and chairs, and a barbecue, and visitors also have access to the garden. There is parking within the grounds for cars.

The cottage has been completely renovated to bring the facilities up to the high standard which we feel will enhance your enjoyment of your stay.

About Paul and Sue McShane

Paul and Sue came to live in France in 2006 after a lifetime in teaching on the Isle of Wight. They still felt young enough after retirement to start a new life, and have enjoyed the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. They love this region of France, and are delighted to welcome people who want to explore it for themselves.

Paul and Sue McShane purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Paul and Sue McShane chose Loir-et-Cher

We chose this property for its central position in an area which we have explored and enjoyed over many holidays. Within easy reach are the beautiful rivers - which change constantly according to the light - the chateaux, timeless villages, busy markets, quiet country roads... all under a wide summer sky. Wonderful! The house itself is old and full of character, set in a spacious garden which we love, and close to the vineyards where a walk can provide an immediate feeling of fresh air and well-being.

What makes this cottage unique

Previous guests said:

"A beautiful and relaxing place for a perfect vacation."

"An excellent location to visit the famous chateaux."

"Some wonderful places to eat around here."

"A place for a slow breath out, stop and take time to admire what is around you."

"Villandry and the festival gardens at Chaumont are a must for keen gardeners."

"We loved Loches market on Saturday morning."

"It was great to feel at home from the first moment!"

"The highlights for the children? The zoo, the local swimming pool, local walks to see the donkeys and horses - but most of all the dungeons at Loches. What an amazing place!"

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent a week at Le Clos St Vincent at the end of a 3 month holiday in Europe. We were looking for somewhere to kick back and enjoy a quiet and relaxing time - and this was perfect! The gite is very well set-up with everything one could possibly need. It is spotlessly clean, both inside and out, and the expansive garden gives a roomy feel that most others are lacking. The description and photos give an excellent representation of the property, so there are no nasty surprises. (From our experience one can't always say that!!)

The gite is ideally located to visit the many attractions of the area - whether it be the chateaus, the towns and cities, the vineyards, or the supermarkets/shopping, all are within easy reach. And at the end of a busy day heading back out into the country to the gite is both refreshing and relaxing.

Paul and Sue, the owners, are delightful hosts and did everything and anything we needed. Because they live on site there is always the possibility of the owners getting too involved or overpowering - this was never a problem and they struck a perfect balance between being there to help and allowing us our own privacy.

One could not write a review of Le Clos St Vincent without mentioning Byron. Some people might be concerned about having a dog on the property but Byron is an absolute delight and never a problem. The squirrels might not be quite so keen on him but, like Paul and Sue, he knew when to stay away and when he was welcome to visit.

We have no hesitation in recommending this gite to anyone visiting the Loire Valley. There are lots of gites in this part of France but this one is a standout - you will not be disappointed.

A nice gite, great owners, a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

For anyone wanting to experience the Loire region, this cottage is an excellent choice. With numerous significant chateaux and pretty towns and cities nearby, you will be able to enjoy much of what the area has to offer. The gite itself is comfortable, clean, well equipped and exactly as shown in the photos. And the owners are wonderful folks who are interested in making sure their guests have a pleasant stay and are happy to offer ideas and tips on things to do and see. We particularly enjoyed visits to the city of Blois and the town of Loches. as well as the always popular chateaux Chambord and Chenonceau. Thanks Paul and Sue

Very clean and functional. Adequate space.

  • 4 of 5

Henry and I really enjoyed our stay at your Gite. It was very clean and functional for our needs. You were both very hospitable hosts, plus your local knowledge of the area proved most useful for us. In addition, what the Gite provided was good value. If the opportunity arises in the future, we will be sure to refer your establishment

Enjoy the environment.

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful holiday. Nice owners, clean house and very helpful.Nice garden to sit in, place for in the Sun or in the shade. Near enough to do fun cities such as Blois and Tours. Amboise in well worth it. Enough castles, Chambord and Chennonceaux, you have to actually visit. In the House are some folders with enough information. In warm weather, enjoy swimming in the Cher, with beach, near Montrichard. If you want to canoe there, don't forget to make a reservation. Really a must.

Nicely located gite and welcoming hosts.

  • 4 of 5

So much to see and explore in only a week!

Le Clos St. Vincent is a very nicely located gite in a quiet rural location that perfectly suited our family of four with children aged 4 and 7. We chose this gite because of the many options for shorter day-trips in the surroundings: Zoo de Beauval that was definitely the children's favorite, castles of all shapes and sizes, old towns, markets and museums like the Mini Chateaux close to Amboise and the Magic Museum in Blois. The hosts were welcoming and helpful in any way they could and have the knowledge of their region to give their guests the extra tip and information needed to fully enjoy the stay at Le Clos St. Vincent.

Nice and quiet, central for all the Loire Chateaux

  • 4 of 5

This nice and quiet gite is a good starting point for visits to the Loire castles. Most are within easy reach.

We felt very relaxed here! It easily accomodated 4 adults, also in the garden, where we had all our meals (thanks to the great weather!).

We didn't encounter any mosquitos in the house, which is great.

It was clean when we arrived, everything was there, and the wifi worked. In short, just what we wanted, in a nice atmosphere, on a great location. Good value for our money!

Great place to stay

  • 4 of 5

Well located, only a couple of minutes by car from Montrichard and within easy drive of Chenonceau, Cheverny, zoo de Beauval, etc. Comfortable and well equipped, it accommodated our family of four very well. Welcoming hosts (including Byron the dog!) made for a very relaxing and easy stay. Recommended.

Le Clos St Vincent is situated in the quiet, hilltop hamlet of Le Bourg, St Julien de Chedon, and is surrounded by vineyards which produce the world-famous Touraine wines. St Julien lies in the valley of the beautiful River Cher, near the pretty medieval town of Montrichard, with its donjon, small shops, restaurants, pleasure beach on the banks of the river and twice-weekly market. Within easy reach are many of the chateaux of the Loire Valley – Chenonceaux, Amboise, Loches, Chambord, and many more – and the historic cities of Blois and Tours with their pedestrianised medieval quarters and fine shopping areas. For families with younger children, great days out might include canoeing on the river, the Zoo de Beauval, the Mini -chateaux or the aquarium at Amboise, the fantasy Forest or, at a slightly greater distance, Futuroscope at Poitiers. Beautiful gardens, fine food and wines, walking, cycling .... there is plenty to see and do in this wonderful corner of France!

Other Activities: canoeing, balloon flights, wine tasting.
