What a dreamy, magical way to escape the realities of everyday life. The Villa di Collina was an absolutely amazing place to spend a vacation. Spectacular views, breathtaking surroundings, beautiful, picturesque, an experience I will never forget and hope to revisit again soon! This is heaven on earth- such a peaceful place to soothe the mind, relax the body and nurture the soul. Many thanks! (Kelsie K., NY)
The view was incredible and peace was magnificent. We especially liked meeting the owner and most of his family. He gave us a guided tour of the villa areas not open to the guests, including the old wine cellars and production facilities. The charm of the local people and small village atmosphere. We happened upon a village celebration on the first Sunday when we arrived. There was entertainment and the shops were open serving wine and food. We enjoyed the remote areas as well as spending time in Florence, Siena and visiting Castello Banfi vineyards. (John F., USA)
We stayed at Villa Collina in May/June 2010. There were 13 in our party (incl. 3 children) and the villa was spacious enough that we could always find our own space. The Villa is well equipped, immaculately presented and very comfortable. it felt like a home away from home.
the history of the house is also fascinating and we enjoyed learning about this from lorenzo over a bottle of wine!
The owners, Lorenzo and Renata are charming and very helpful, providing bicycles for us and our children as well as pool equipment. They also helped us organise a fabulous cooking experience, where local chef Cristian Borghi came to the villa to teach us Mugello cuisine and cooked for 10 adults... complete with waitress service! Luxury!
In addition, we were able to organise horse riding for some of our party and Lorenzo helped us again.
All in all, we had a wonderful holiday, a truly relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of London. We would love to visit again and will certainly remember Collina should we head to tuscany again!
Bello Collina, Bella Italia!
Villa di Collina is located in the Mugello area in north-eastern Tuscany, also known as 'the Switzerland of Tuscany', because of the hilly wooded quality of the countryside, so different from that of Chianti or Maremma. There are endless possibilities for trekking, or just walking around; the roads going north to Firenzuola, Marradi or S. Godenzo will shortly take you to the slopes of the Appennini, the mountain range that separates Tuscany from Romagna. The village of Vicchio (2,5 km from the villa), founded in the 13th century, is the birthplace of painters Giotto and Fra Angelico. In the Museo Comunale there are many interesting pieces dating from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Several restaurants in and around Vicchio offer sound, tasty Tuscan cooking at reasonable prices. In Vicchio there is also a camping site whose large swimming pool and tennis courts are open to the public. In Borgo S. Lorenzo and Scarperia the old centre still retains its Medieval character...
Other Activities: wine tasting tours, cooking lessons
