Wonderful stay in a great location

  • 5 of 5

I stayed with family (husband, daughters ages 15 and 20) in this unit for 5 days. It was fantastic! The unit is clean, well-maintained, and nicely furnished. The owner, Sally, was very attentive. We had a bit of an issue with flies the first couple of days--they were the kind that tend to come out in the spring, but they pretty much disappeared after the second day. The only thing I might have wanted was more places to hang towels: maybe a free-standing towel rack would help.

The unit is fairly small, but just right for our family, especially since we spent a lot of time on the patio. The house is perfectly located. We could see the ocean from our patio, and walk over the boardwalk to the beach. It was a holiday weekend so the beach was somewhat crowded near the public park next door, but only a few paces down the beach it was beautifully uncrowded. There has probably been some erosion after the hurricane, but we didn't really notice it. The sunrises are awesome and breeze from the ocean kept things cool.

Vilano Beach center has some nice restaurants (Benedetto's was awesome) and it is not far (just a few miles) to St. Augustine, where we found more good restaurants. I would definitely go back and hope that I can arrange another visit to the area.

Owner's Response: We, at Surfside Retreat, are always open to suggestions by our guests to help improve their stay and make them more comfortable. If they just go away "mad" we cannot correct the problem. We do try to contact our guests at least a couple of times to make sure that they are happy and comfortable with the accommodations and above all enjoying their beach life. Thank goodness for wonderful guests!! Sally

We really enjoyed our stay. It was beautiful and had it's own beach access. The owner was super helpful and sweet. If we go back to Vilano Beach we will stay there again.

Owner's Response: Another guest that I, unfortunately, was not able to connect with and meet while I was on the property but did speak with several times by telephone. They seemed very nice and kept the unit very clean. We would love to have them return again if they should come to St. Augustine again for a vacation.

Great time

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I plus our dog Lacey loved our time at Sally's surfside retreat. We felt right at home the moment we walked in. The beach is right there!! This should say it all we are going back in 7 weeks. Sally is very hands on if there is a problem and takes care of it at once. The public beach is close but nothing you can do about it. We cook a lot of our meals and the kitchen and appliances are top notch. Publix is right down the street. Since our previous place was destroyed by hurricane Matthew we lucked up upon Sally's. This is our new destination!!! We look forward to come again the same times next year. Thanks Sally and Cathy see you soon!

Owner's Response: We have been so absolutely blessed to have guests that come to Surfside Retreat and feel right at home and comfortable being right on the beach. It is so perfect for families especially those with children. If it is fishing you would be interested in then its as close as your back door. People love to surf fish here. So bring your family and fishing poles but do not forget your sunscreen. Sally

A Piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we stepped into this darling apartment, we fell in love with it. The owner, Sally Murdock, makes sure her guests feel very comfortable and special. Everything is updated and looks brand new. We loved being able to walk out the door and have the beach a few steps away. As part of the boardwalk to the ocean, there are seats where we enjoyed coffee in the morning and the beautiful view of the sunrise. Sally is a delightful person to deal with and makes you feel like a long lost friend. We are planning on returning again this time next year.

Owner's Response: I am so blessed to have such wonderful guests that wish to come to Surfside Retreat and enjoy it as much as Cathy, Nick and I have done over the many years that have passed. I am so happy to see that these guests have chosen to return to Surfside and enjoy just a little bit more of this piece of heaven.

Peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here so much. It was a little crowded for 6 people, but it was clean, well equipped, and very nice. The house is very close to the public beach access but the beach still wasn't too crowded. The fenced area for the dogs is very convenient. I would highly recommend this property!!

Owner's Response: I have had access to Vilano Beach since 1984 when my husband and I purchased the Unit B for our weekend vacations so we saw it go from no one on the beach during the week and a few on the weekend. Driving was allowed on the beach then but only 4-Wheel Drives were able to drive in the sand. We became full time building owners in 1994, renovated and moved in for the next eighteen years and loved every minute of it. I am still very close to the beach and having grown up in Jacksonville was always within fifteen miles of the sand and surf. You can certainly unwind at the beach!!
