On the Rocks, Alligator Point, FL

Kick back in the house, on the screened porch or on the sun deck to enjoy our million dollar view!!! 'On the Rocks' is located directly on the gulf. Our yard is protected from the gulf by a line of large rocks, so you cannot access the water from the yard. If you are on the deck, you are right over the water and have a bird's eye view of the beach and gulf. The closest 'official' beach access is only approximately 40 yards away. Talk about convenient!

We offer approximately 1252 sq. ft. of living area, which includes 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and family room, not to mention the screened in porch and deck overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. If you are an early bird, you can enjoy your morning coffee while taking in the inspiring sunrises over the gulf, or just kick back any time of the day to enjoy the roar of the ocean and the gentle gulf breeze. It just doesn't get any better! The master bedroom has a queen-size bed, one guest room has a double bed, other quest room has 2 twins and there is a queen sleeper sofa in the den. We also offer 2 folding twin-size cots. These accommodations will sleep 6 to 8 people comfortably. Perfect for any group or family.

Alligator Point is located 45 miles south of Tallahassee along US Hwy. 98 in Franklin County. Franklin County proudly boasts that it has no stop lights, no fast food, and no movie theaters. If you are are looking for water parks, high rise condos, and go-cart rides, you have come to the wrong place. But if you want the REAL FLORIDA, with its abundant wildlife, great fishing and unspoiled, pristine beaches, you have arrived at your dream destination.

Come enjoy the beautiful beach at Alligator Point and Bald Point State Park, where you can enjoy sunbathing, snorkeling, swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, bird watching and nature study. Alligator Point Beach is more narrow than the beaches at Panama City or Destin, but it goes on forever.

Within a few minutes drive are two of the nation's TOP TEN RATED BEACHES, St. George Island State Park, near Apalachicola, and St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, near Port St. Joe. Both parks contain miles of undeveloped beaches, emerald waters and white sugar sand. Other nearby attractions include St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge, an unspoiled barrier island just offshore from the mouth of the Apalachicola River in the Gulf of Mexico. The island is a haven for endangered and threatened species, including bald eagles, wood storks, sea turtles, indigo snakes, gopher tortoises and red wolves. It is accessible only by boat. A favorite is Wakulla Springs State Park, one of the world's deepest freshwater springs, with swimming, nature boat rides and glass bottom boats. Wakulla Springs is known as the shooting location for several Tarzan movies, Creature from the Black Lagoon and Airport 77. From the river boat and glass bottom boat tours, you can see alligators, many species of wading birds, water fowl, fish, turtles, and snakes, in and among the crystal clear waters emerging from the depth of the springs. Kids love diving from the diving platform into the refreshing spring waters, which remain a constant 68-70 degrees year round. The St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge features the St. Marks Lighthouse, and offers a habitat for all kinds of Florida wildlife. (Bald eagles are often spotted here - so keep your eyes peeled!)

So the guys want to take in some of the finest deep sea or flats fishing in Florida; NO PROBLEM, LADIES! While they are catching speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, grouper, redfish (the list goes on), you can visit historic Apalachicola. Once a bustling sea port, this quaint village of about 5,000 still boasts a large shrimp fleet, a downtown shopping area with antiques, boutiques and local art, and beautiful restored houses from a bygone era. Once the third largest cotton port along the Gulf Coast, the Apalachicola/East Point area still harvests and processes 90% of the oysters consumed in Florida.

Locally caught seafood is prepared in the many fine restaurants located in Panacea, Carrabelle, and Apalachicola. If you prefer to cook it yourself, fresh shrimp, oysters, and the catch of the day are available in the seafood houses dotted along the coast from Panacea to Port St. Joe.

We can't wait for you to experience our personal paradise. Leave you worries at home and head for 'On the Rocks' for some beach therapy.

About Deborah Word

My name is Deborah Word. My husband, Jerry, and I started visiting Shell Point in 1998. It didn't take long for us to fall in love with the Shell Point area. Since then, we purchased two canal front vacation rental homes in Paradise Village of Shell Point, with high hopes for future retirement there. We love fishing and photography, so Wakulla County is perfect for us. Several years later, I started handling vacation rental reservations for a few other property owners in the surrounding area. I currently manage six rentals in Shell Point, three in Ochlockonee Bay (Panacea) and one in Alligator Point.

Deborah Word purchased this house in 2014

Why Deborah Word chose Florida Panhandle

Alligator Point is located south of Tallahassee along US Hwy. 98 in Franklin County, just across Ochlockonee Bay from the Wakulla County line. Franklin County proudly boasts that it has no stop lights, no fast food and no movie theaters. If you are looking for water parks, high rise condos, and go-cart rides, you have come to the wrong place. But if you want the REAL FLORIDA, with its abundant wildlife, great fishing and unspoiled, pristine beaches, you have arrived at your dream destination. Come enjoy the beautiful beach at Alligator Point and nearby Bald Point State Park, where you can enjoy sunbathing, snorkeling, swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, bird watching and nature study.

What makes this house unique

On the Rocks sits directly on the water and has water views from the entire living area and the master bedroom. The screened in porch and deck offer a comfortable outdoor setting. The beach is just a couple of houses down the street and the beach access is about 40 yards down the road.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Just home from our second stay at On The Rocks. Wonderful stay. Really decided 1 week is not enough! Be back for the whole month of Sept. (Review shared from Guest Reviews on “Deb’s Forgotten Coast Rentals” Facebook page)

Love "On the Rocks"

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time visiting On the Rocks and it was just as good as the first time. The recent hurricane in fall of 2016 has effected the area itself but the local people have learned to manage and thankfully access is still available to the property's on Alligator Point.

You will not regret booking this home! Views are absolutely spectacular and breathtaking. All the cooking utensils, towels, etc are there ready to be used.

Our 12 yr old son and nephew made use of the bunk beds on the screened in porch and enjoyed sleeping outside. We comfortably slept 4 adults and 3 kids under 12.

If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful get away, "on the Rocks"is the place to go. Beaches are not busy- maybe 4-5 ppl at a time. It's so great with young kids

And the house itself is great! Rather relaxing in the Master Bedroom, in the living room or enjoying a nice family meal at the table just turn your head and that view is right in front of you. Nothing but ocean for miles and miles.

The booking agent is amazing as well. You'll not find a nicer lady. Deb had been so helpful both years and I enjoy working with her.

I couldn't be happier with this place! Beautiful view, perfect spot on the water, great distance to beach, and you can catch your own food & eat here. We have seen so many things here that you just never see at the touristy spots. We will never go back to one of those places again. We can't wait to return to On the Rocks & for a much longer stay!

Lousy cable!

  • 4 of 5

Just got home from On The Rocks. Spent four week there and for the most part was very happy. House needs some work but nothing really major. Front steps are a little scary but the owner just had to replace the back deck and steps after a hurricane took them out. I'm sure he will get to the front.Would be great if he could do a handicap ramp. I have a hard time with stairs and have a grandson in a wheelchair and we are going to end up going somewhere other than Alligator Point because thay have very few homes that are handicap friendly. We were there for 4 weeks and had no tv for for 3 of those weeks. Spotty wifi for the first 2 weeks. Owner called the cable people and we called the cable company! Finally got them out to fix it on our 3rd week then it was off and on the 4th week.Lousy cable provider. Have no problem at all with the owner or the rental agent they are doing a great job. Spent most of our time on the screened porch the view would make you forget about tv problems! We will be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review On the Rocks. After several visits from Mediacom technicians, the cable and Wifi are finally back up to par. I am guessing that Hurricane Hermine in early September was to blame for some wiring and modem issues, causing the cable and internet service to be off and on. We sincerely apologize that the cable company had to make numerous visits and drug their feet in doing so. Look forward to having you back with us next September.

Amazing Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week at "On the Rocks" in Alligator Point! It was amazing! The view is spectacular!! The home itself shows some age but what can be expected (don't all homes age?). Everything you need from towels to pots and pans are already there for you. It's very comfortable and we easily slept 7 people. Some complain about the rocks but my fishermen LOVED the rocks, my husband even caught a baby stingray in front of the house. Our dolphins, sea gulls, and pelicans were our daily visitors. The beach access is just steps away and is not crowded at all. To see 10-15 ppl on the beach at one time was a stretch. The water isn't crystal clear like in Panama or that way but if you don't like the hustle/fast pace lifestyle, Alligator Point is the place to go. Where else can you feel comfortable enough to let your kids wonder, look for shells, within eyesight and not worry about about them being kidnapped or hurt. To me, that makes up for the not so clear, greenish water. (It rained a few days so that may have caused the murky water) I could go on for days about all the amazing/wonderful things this place has to offer but I want to brag on the booking agent too. Deb is the most efficient person to deal with when booking a vacation. She does a wonderful job and is so nice. I promise, any of her homes will be worth the stay because she will make sure anything you need will be done if possible! ~thanks Deb for an amazing/unforgettable vacation, we will be back next year!!!

On the Rocks was the way to go!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I took his mom and our dog and EVERYONE was happy. The house was really comfortable, the patio/deck areas were AWESOME! I love that you are so close to the water that you can hear the ocean waves 24/7 even with the doors closed. Very short walk to the beach, which itself is pristine and beautiful AND not at all crowded. We didn't want to leave and will definitely be back.

On the Rocks - Just a Little Rocky

  • 4 of 5

Let me say first off that with the very few problems we had, we did NOT contact anyone to fix them as we considered them very minor. The house is described well, nothing special but IS comfortable. A few things can be fixed, some not. Overall, very stayable, 8/10 as rental houses go.

THE GOOD: Very clean (cleaner than most hotels) and cheerful decor. Stocked kitchen as far as pots/pans/utensils. We enjoyed the kitchen bar design.

Great view, but go to last public beach for the sunset. Public beach is a comfortable walk from the house. Beaches are white sand, water is a bit murky but we did have storms and heavy wave action. The people in Panacea were VERY friendly.

THE BAD: We were given the wrong Internet password and did not get on until late the last night by accidentally finding the updated password by the telephone. There are four bunk beds on the back porch. Problem is, during stroms the back porch gets windblown rain. In fact, the lower beds were soaked. Some type of pull down blinds would probably help. There was a slight ant problem. The master bathroom is not for elders, it has a knee high tub that even I (6'0 male) had problems with. Owners should really put in a walk-in shower. Also, no blinds on the back windows so no privacy from anyone on back porch. Stairs are okay, but do be careful. Drive way is a bit tight. Two cars okay, but pulling a boat trailer? No way without using next door neighbors drive. Couch had an odor issue. Main bed mattress is well used (everyone rolls to the middle). Dining room chair backs come apart, needs glue. Electric plugs in 2nd queen bed room do not work.Frig has a rust spot but it works. Family room is small and cramped. Get ready to fill up ice cube trays. For me, no electrical plug outside front of house. Would have been nice. WATCH your speed. The incoming 35mph sign (only one) is hidden by a tree branch.

WRAP UP: My main goal was to fish. This is not the place for that. Rock Landing Marina in Panacea(very friendly people, thanks Dick) is the place to keep your boat, use the the public $5 ramp next to it. Do not use the ramps on Alligator Point (shallow water and poor condition) or the marina (very expensive slips). If you want a beach house that is not necessarily on the beach, try On the Rocks. Yes, I WOULD stay again if only for that, but I personally would rather find somewhere else for better fishing. Happy to provide more info.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your informative and thorough review. The owners and I were happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay, despite the minor problems that you encountered. I am sorry that you were not able to log onto the WiFi. I was not told about the new password before your stay. My rental info has now been updated to reflect the correct password and the following guests were happy to update the info in the “House Book”. On the Rocks is under new ownership and the new owners are very responsive to complaints and are open to suggestions for improvement. They are addressing all of the maintenance issues on your list. All existing furnishings were purchased with the house. After reading your recommendations, the owners are replacing the sofa, adding a window covering to the French doors in the master bedroom, checking on the condition of the mattresses in the bedrooms, and are considering doing away with the bunk beds on the screened-in porch. (Note: These bunks are NOT mentioned in our ad as a sleeping option.) For protection from the weather, the bunk mattresses are covered with plastic mattress covers, and I am sure that they cannot be used during rainy weather. Several guests have commented that they, or their children, enjoyed using the bunks (dry weather, of course), so the owners are weighing the pros and cons. With heavy winds that come from storms off the Gulf, a blind may not be an option as protection from the rain. UPDATE AS OF 4/21/2015 - New den furniture, which includes a queen sleeper sofa and a 32 in. flat screen TV, has been added to the living area. The master bed now has a new queen size mattress. At this time, the 2 bunk beds remain on the screened-in porch - jury is still out on that decision.
