Port Angeles Barn Rental Photos and Description

Barn, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths/

Luxurious amenities combine with beach casual to make our Nid d'Amour (Love Nest) distinctive. In it's prior life a 'pole barn', this property has now been converted into fifteen hundred square feet of self-contained privacy a mere 300 feet from the beach on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. When you arrive at your destination the refreshing sea air tells you immediately that this is a very special home-away-from-home and the evergreens whisper their welcome.

While oriented to the woods (and fenced) for maximum privacy, guests are lulled to sleep by the sound of the surf. Located 1/4 mile from the mouth of the Elwha River and 300 feet from Freshwater Bay, this property is popular with surfers, as they are within walking (there is also beach parking) distance of a great surfing area. We have also hosted guests interested in the Elwha Dam Removal Project, including the film crew who did the story of the river in a documentary called The Breach.

Snuggle by the fireplace before slipping into the silky comfort of the European linens on your Cal-King canopied bed. Even rainy days are fun when you can listen to the rain falling on your tin roof. Enjoy cooking in a well-equipped kitchen (I don't like to cook on vacation but guests who enjoy cooking have said we have the best equipped kitchen of any vacation rental they have stayed in) or savor the unique flavors of the Pacific Northwest at one of the many excellent restaurants in town. (We are eight miles west of downtown Port Angeles, the park entrance for Hurricane Ridge or Victoria ferries).

Take a dip in your double fenced private hot tub, count all the stars you can't see living in town and revel in the smell of the sea. We frequently get guests who tell us 'last night was the best I've slept in ages'. While often used by lovers who want to get away from it all, (and frequent honeymooners), the house has been enthusiastically received by families wanting a unique location to use as their home base while they explore the wonders of the Olympic Peninsula or day-trip to Victoria, British Columbia. Originally with only a master bedroom, we have added a second bedroom with a plush Queen bed covered with imported Italian linens. Also on display, our dad's piano from when he ran away from home to become 'a serious jazz musician,' before he grew up, married our mom and became Washington's best known jazz educator, Dr. Ralph Mutchler.(Google Jon Mutchler and a large posting about dad comes up, photos and all). We are currently collecting photos from the various jazz clinics and stage band festivals to post above the piano--our very first guest actually goes, 'No way-I knew Ralph!' If you can provide one of the missing stage band tapes, stay one night free! In the living room the couch also converts to a 'full' sleeper with tempurpedic foam added for comfort. Some guests could care less about TV but we do have an expansive DirecTV package and tons of DVD's.

Kid-friendly amenities include board games, glider, dozens of Disney videos, a fire pit for weenie and marshmallow roasts plus, walk or drive to the beach.

The owners of the Love Nest live next door and are delighted to help their guests plan their excursions, recommend wonderful places to dine or even arrange for a masseuse to attend you after a full day of activities.

Great place to stay! Our son and daughter in law who live here loved it and will recommend it.

We wanted a place close to our son! It was perfect! It was stocked with everything we needed! Allen was very accomadating in every aspect! The beds were amazingly comfortable! The wifi was a little weak but we assumed it was the location! Close to the water which was great! Very eclectic furnishings which made it interesting! Thanks for allowing us to be comfortable while visiting Port Angles!

Good Value - Very Comfortable

  • 4 of 5

We were looking for a base for two couples while touring Olympic National Park and environs. This was a great space for us. We prepared most of our own meals and the kitchen was well-stocked. The rooms are large and everything we needed was in the baths and the kitchen. They have a large selection of reading material and DVDs for those so inclined (we were out all day and tend to play games together at night, so we didn't take advantage of this). The location is minutes from Port Angeles and convenient to the highways leading to all the incredible sites of the Olympic Peninsula. It is on a quiet and beautiful tree-lined road close enough to the beech to hear the crashing breakers. We took numerous evening hikes down the road and to the beech. These are great hosts who were very accommodating. Our ONLY complaint was the wifi (the only reason we didn't give five stars), which you can only get in the bedrooms next to the wall where the router is. This could easily be fixed with a repeater or range extender. Yes, we were on vacation and being unplugged is not all bad, but wifi is pretty much a standard these days, if for nothing else than to move our beautiful digital photos around. We would definitely return to this place, and to the Olympic Peninsula.

Nice private and large two bedroom apartment. It was great relaxing in the hot tub with the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. They had a great movie selection with a massive couch. Only downside of the barn is that the beds were really uncomfortable (unless you like very, very, squishy matresses) and the light switches were in the oddest places. The first night we ran around for 30 minutes trying to figure out how to turn off the lights.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at the Love Nest. The house is incredibly well equipped, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. It is perfectly located for walks on the beach, and is very private and quiet. Lyndee and Allen are very responsive, accommodating, helpful and charming. We travel very frequently, and were just delighted here. We will certainly be back.

Charming getaway

  • 5 of 5

This property is a charming cottage with many personal touches from the owners. It's pretty much a perfect balance of rustic cottage and modern amenities. My only problem is that our family didn't stay long enough to take advantage of all the property had to offer. We used the house as a base to explore the Olympic National Park so were only at the house in the evenings. The hot tub was great for relaxing and star-gazing after a day of hiking. The building is attached to the owner's house but is still very private and quiet. The beds were very comfortable as well.

The Best VRBO EVER...

  • 5 of 5

This house is absolutely amazing. We have traveled a great deal and typically use VRBOS for many reasons... Primarily the space and location, but The Love Nest exceeded our expectations. This house is decorated so tastefully; the kitchen is fantastic and has all of the necessities to prepare any meal you'd like (the quality of the cookware, dishes and appliances is unbelievable). The house is very clean; most comfortable beds you can imagine; softest p, biggest bath towels you can imagine. The location is on Place Road and is just breathtaking. You have a beautiful private garden, with a hot tub and a great little garden. The book and movie collection is very extensive. Unfortunately, we had so many things to do in the area that we did not get to relax and enjoy the property as we had hoped. I do hope we are able to visit again. Lyndee and Allen are gracious and accommodating. You will not regret booking this home. Enjoy yourself!!

Owner's Response: We are always so happy when our guests leave happy. We furnished the property as though we were going to live there, so it is always nice when someone notices the high-end amenities we have added. We are so pleased everything went well and you had a pleasant stay! Fondly, Allen & Lyndee
