About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Please check availability calendar! It is up to date.

Our 2 bedroom 1 bath house sits on high stilts directly overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Located in undiscovered Dekle Beach, Florida. It is a retreat from everything. We are about three miles up the coast from Keaton Beach. The home overhangs the Gulf, with the high tides lapping against the sea wall. The porch/deck looking out on the Gulf. Sunbathing is great right on the 3rd story wrap around deck. There is an open mezzanine floor between the house and the ground level and covered parking at ground level. Great for grilling in a rain, baby cribs and lots of people room. Relax and read on the couch on the mezzanine. You will enjoy breathtaking gulf views and fabulous sunsets. FISH CLEANING TABLE WITH RUNNING WATER!! There is now 3 full bays open for cars and boats. No street parking. Steps down into the water! After 2016, I will no longer rent the house for more than 1 month. I am sorry.

About Martie McLean

I'm 68 years old and I live in Ocala, Florida. My husband and I purchased the house is 2001. I have rented the house for several years and have had fantastic reviews through other vacation websites. i also have two places on the Atlantic coast and are also available for rent through this website. I take great pride in my beautiful places and am very responsive to any of our guests' needs. I do not live locally but can be there in 2 1/2 hours. I have a team of folks that help me with any issues you may encounter. I am available by phone but especially by email.

Martie McLean purchased this house in 2001

Why Martie McLean chose Florida

It is so peaceful! The area is still pristine and undisturbed. I love to study the stars and at night, on a clear night, the Milky Way is breathtaking. The weather is always a pleasure, whether it is a sunbathing day, or a stormy night. I also love bird watching. I like to sit with binoculars and identify them. At night, we grill out on the nice double hibachi grills and enjoy talking and being with family.

What makes this house unique

Underdeveloped Florida is almost a thing of the past. Dekle is a nice community of 40 houses. Scalloping season is the high season and often the scall0ps are right out in front of the house. 2 kayaks are there for your use. Fishing is great as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Martie, we certainly had a great time at your place. Everything was clean & all the appliances were top of the line. Both beds slept great. The binoculars were a real plus. I got to follow the skimmers as the glazed over the water. Before I had only seen them in the air or on the beach. It was really special to have crabs & horseshoe crabs right at our landing. It is mating season & all the horseshoe crabs were in pairs. We enjoyed Keaton Beach. Talked to such nice family people out having a day of fishing. Had a super chili dog at the beach. We checked out Dallas Landing & think we would like to fish or take our kayaks there. In all we feel if someone wants to see the old Florida, this is the place. The sunsets & the moon were beautiful! I am really glad I brought my bike. To ride along the coast & ride toward the coast, as I went down the dead end street was what I have always wanted to do. Even with the rain I got in 17 miles while there. Gary saw one large ray over by the bridge. Of course the hoist went great and was a life saver for me and saved many trips up & down the steps. I really lucked out. I had packed all the groceries in canvas bags with straps. We love this place!

We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely book again. The house was quaint and had everything we needed. We enjoyed using the kayaks and the kids LOVED chasing and catching crabs. Neighbors are friendly and view was amazing! Martie was attentive to our needs and quick to answer any questions we had.

We had a great time! The location is very easy to get to and is very private. The view was phenomenal! The house is very clean and has everything. The drive into Steinhatchee is a short 30 minutes if you would like to eat out. We would definitely stay again! Thanks.

Peace, Quiet and an Awesome Location

  • 5 of 5

I loved my stay at the Gulf Front Sunset house. Two nights were not nearly enough. Watching the sunset from the deck in the evening and enjoying mornings, sipping coffee and watching the shore birds was just the ticket for a short break from a hectic life. The remote location and stillness of the place was just what I was looking for. The gulf is literally at your doorstep, especially at high tide. Low tide exposes sea grasses and wide expanses of sand.

I brought both of my dogs with me but quickly realized that a stilt house was not an ideal location for dogs. Having to carry my fat, elderly terrier up and down the stairs numerous times a day was great exercise but a bit tiring. We did have a great time at Hagen's Cove park which was a short drive south. We had the whole place to ourselves so my canine kids got to go off leash and play in the water to their hearts content.

We also drove the 9-mile dirt road through the Big Bend Wildlife Management Area. Very good opportunity to see the native habitats. We didn't pass a single vehicle the entire time. I was amazed at the lack of traffic on the area roads. What a treat!

The house was very clean and Martie was very responsive and helpful. The shower might be a bit tight for a larger person and be careful about leaving the doors open in the evening. The mosquitoes may make you regret it!
