Our Santa Fe style mountain-side home has a 600 sq.ft. detached guest
house that we are renting to visitors. It would be considered
a studio as it has no separate bedroom. It features a King size bed,
plasma flat screen, walk in closet and gas fireplace. Located in
Paradise Valley, bordering Scottsdale it has a large
deck with a view of North Scottsdale, Pinnacle Peak, and Carefree.
There is an outdoor fireplace near the pool that is enjoyable in the
evening. At night the view is city lights, and mountains on two sides.
This guest house is in an exclusive area which is very private but
near lots of shopping and restaurants. You may see Arizona wildlife
from the deck such as coyotes, owls, rabbits and road runners. This
guest house is perfect for two people and that is the limit that we
will allow. We are in the main house and only want guests who are
quiet and will not be having any parties.
Born in Phoenix and Native American I attended Arizona State and have always had a home in Phoenix. As a youth I worked in my mother's hotel and bar. Later I managed restaurants and in 1976 I opened my own in Minneapolis. Soon I opened Native American airport gift stores in Minneapolis, Orlando and JFK New York. After 25 years of airport retail I retired in 2002 and live in Paradise Valley.
Jim Howe purchased this studio in 1987
This property is on the North side of Mummy Mountain, Paradise Valley, AZ. This property looks North toward North Scottsdale, Carefree, Pinnacle Peak and the McDowell Mountain Range. To the East, Four Peaks and the Superstition Mountains are in view from your private deck. At night there is a vista of twinkling lights, clear night sky and a feeling of magic.
Situated on the side of a mountain this property is home to Arizona wildlife. Coyotes, owls, javalina, rabbits, quail and road runners inhabit the mountain. Walking the roads is an invigorating experience and you will find at any pace is a pleasure. Relaxing on your private deck and enjoying the warmth of Arizona will be just what you need to return home fully recharged.
Thank you for allowing me to host your visit. You are a beautiful couple and it was a pleasure for me. Take care.
We spent 3 wonderful nights in this idyllic casita in the foothills of Paradise Valley. The deck and views from this property are stellar. Arriving from the northeast we were up early to see the sunrise which was amazing. In addition to the location, our host Jim went out of his way to insure we had a wonderful experience. In some ways this vrbo is more like a bnb experience with Robes, lotions, soaps, snacks and bottled water all provided. The casita is beautifully decorated with many southwest artifacts. The king size bed and linens are so inviting, and the bathroom is very large with lots of counter and drawer space. And there is a very large walk in closet that served more as a dressing room. Finally this property is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Scottsdale. The surrounding homes are so varied and architecturally stunning, and when you are in the casita you can only hear the quiet and nature sounds of the mountains, yet just two minutes away you'll find some of the best restaurants and shopping the area has to offer.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely casita. Located in a beautiful neighborhood in the foothills of Paradise Valley, immaculately clean and beautifully decorated, this lovely little casita had everything we needed to feel at home. The kitchen was well stocked and Jim was a charming host. We highly recommend this property.
Wonderful Casita in Paradise Valley! Small, well-stocked kitchen, large bedroom with gas fireplace, large bathroom and ample closet space. Private deck out back with gorgeous view. Loved having the pool and an outdoor fireplace just outside the door. Washer/dryer made it convenient for a long term stay. Jim is a wonderful host. Probably the best "stocked" VRBO we've ever been to. Would highly recommend!
What a great time we had at Jim's cozy Casita! The location was perfect, the views just beautiful! We loved sitting on the deck overlooking all of Phoenix! Jim was an awesome host! The unit is cozy, clean and has everything you could need. Thanks Jim for your wonderful hospitality. We will be back next year!

We thoroughly enjoyed our two-week vacation in Paradise Valley. The Casita was very comfortable and beautifully decorated and well-stocked and designed for maximum comfort. Jim was a spectacular host with ‘extra’s’ on our arrival – bottled water, wine, flowers and dark chocolate !! Jim checked in every few days to be sure we were 100% happy. We had a couple over for a BarBQ one evening– the deck is perfect for outdoor dinners overlooking the lights of the Valley under the stars and Jim made sure we had enough comfortable chairs for all. The location is private and very quiet and peaceful.
Thank you Jim…it was a much needed break from the cold and snow of the Northeast.
The location is easily accessible to everything the area has to offer…hiking Camelback, Museums/restaurants downtown, sights and restaurants in Scottsdale and Cave Creek.
We hope to be back…
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Scottsdale! The guest house was amazing and we felt quite at home. The kitchen was well stocked, comfortable bed, big walk in closet and lots of towels in the bathroom. We had a private deck with great views and lots of wild life to keep us entertained.
We did lots of day trips and were close to great restaurants and shopping. Went for walks around the neighbourhood and took in all the beautiful homes and landscaping.
We would definitely recommend this property and hope to visit again soon!
