Monique Oaks purchased this Chalet in 1966
Why Monique Oaks chose Val-des-Monts
My parents owned the original cottage. When we visited, my husband and I always felt this place gave us the best country holiday of our life! So we purchased it and totally renovated it in 2002. It has been a wonderful place for family reunions and friends gatherings. Now we'd like to share our place with you to experience this amazing country place for an outstanding holiday!
What makes this Chalet unique
So close and yet so far! So easy to go to Ottawa --- 35 minutes to downtown --- if you want to visit museums, shop, experience fancy restaurants and yet when you're at the lake, you feel like in a different world, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The serenity and the peacefulness of this lakefront paradise rejuvenate your whole being! You're away from it all!

Lovely waterfront - chalet NOT luxury - nic -naks everywhere throughout, kitchen NOT well-equipped
Lac Rheaume is a beautiful spot and while the decks at the waterfront were all in need of a refreshment, it was a great spot to swim and relax. WiFi was good but no cellular service in the area. The cottage has an older section which was dark and tired. The newer area could have been nice, except the whole cottage was loaded with every nic-nak imaginable. Double beds were uncomfortable. Kitchen poorly stocked with essentials missing such as teapot, kettle, large pot for pasta. Some ovenware was put back dirty - yuk! Again, the kitchen was loaded with a lot of trinkets including the cupboard space.
I feel badly writing this review because the owner was a nice lady but it was a costly week and we left after 5 days - couldn't take the space. Sorry!
Charming cozy Canadian cottage right on the water
Monique was a wonderful host and really went above and beyond to make sure my family and friends were comfortable and well received at her family's cottage. We stayed for a week and loved the cozy and quirky decor of her authentic Canadian cottage. If you are looking for something right on the water with access to boats, docks, great lake views and lots of humming birds, this is the place for you. We saw the loons almost every day and had several bbq lunches. This place stands apart from other modern cottages I saw available for rent, as you can feel that it has been built with love over many years. In hindsight, we realised that the bunk beds are best for kids rather than the tall adults in our group, but we were able to use our inflatable mattress in the living room without a problem. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks again Monique!
Beautiful cottage in a quiet setting!
Our family of 5 (3 teenagers and my husband and I) thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful cottage we rented on Lac Rheaume. It has a true "cottage" feel to it, but with the bonus of having all the amenities (dishwasher, washer/dryer, even a heated floor in the master bathroom!). The view was spectacular - about 10 feet from the lake, but surrounded by majestic trees, it provided a lot of privacy as well. We loved choosing which of the docks to use. The large square dock with picnic table and huge umbrella shade was a favorite. The fleet of boats (2 kayaks, canoe, paddle boat and row boat) were great to have available, and we used them daily. Great fishing as well - our 14 yr. old daughter caught a `19" bass off the dock on our last day! Can't say enough good things about the cottage and the location. It is obvious that the owners take great care of the cottage, right down to small details such as the hummingbird feeders (it was fun to watch them buzz by us and drink). Thank you, Monique and Steve, for sharing your piece of paradise with our family and for the wonderful photos and memories we took home with us!
Canadiana at it's best
This cottage is well located on the lake surrounded by trees, beautiful scenery.
The interior is comfortable, well appointed, more dishes that you can use in a week. But the best is the decor, Canadian art, red and one galore. But since we were in the Ottawa region for Canada 150 celebration, it was perfect.
Thank you Monique & Steve for the stay. Paul & MJ
Perfect family get away!
My family of 4 enjoyed this cottage so much! The owners were incredibly friendly, welcoming, & easy to work with. The cottage is comfortable & has everything you will need. It is conveniently located close to a market, restaurants, & Ottawa. I would not hesitate to book this property again. It is a gem!
Lovely vintage cottage with all the modern amentities
We very much enjoyed our stay at Monique and Steve's family cottage. We particularly got good use out of the well laid out and stocked kitchen. Evenings on the floating dock and days swimming from same. Highly recommended.
