Newly Built Suite In A Beautiful "Lighthouse" Building Near Lake Superior
About Kathy Kunst
We are business owners in Duluth MN. Every year we take our kids on a family vacation and rent through VRBO. It was a perfect fit for us because we didn't like being crammed in a small hotel room with 5 kids or the expense of getting 2 hotel rooms. We always talked about opening up a vacation rental and when the old Lighthouse Restaurant was for sale we knew exactly what we wanted to do with it!
Kathy Kunst purchased this House in 2014
Why Kathy Kunst chose Palmers
The North Shore Lighthouse Suites are located between Duluth and Two Harbors, 150 yards from the shores of Lake Superior. This unique building was built in 2007 as a quaint nautical themed restaurant. When the business closed it's doors we were were able to purchase it with one thing in mind, to create one of the most unique and incredible places to stay on the North Shore.
What makes this House unique
We were able to take the wide open space of the building and sculpt it into 2 spacious suites. This allow us to rent them separately or together for large groups or families. Our guests love the fact they can have lots of room to gather and relax in stead of hanging out in a hotel room. The North Shore scenic railroad runs near the suites. The tracks are used for entertainment only

Great amenities. Great location to Duluth and hiking trails. Well stocked kitchen. Spacious living room for relaxing. Beds were very comfortable.
A Unique Property that is a Gem
We stayed in the Anderson Suite which was a beautiful setting for a relaxing break from the Covid-related stress. Aside from its beautiful and quality decor, the bed was so comfortable and offered the perfect sleep after each day of exploring the surrounding parks and waterfalls. The fireplace provided the romantic atmosphere that warmed our hearts as much as the room, additionally, the fire pit outside with free firewood gave us the opportunity to enjoy the evening around a crackling fire. As it got dark an unexpected surprise revealed itself as we looked up and saw that the lighthouse top of the structure actually lit up. I don't think we are ever too old to admit somethings are really cool. We enjoyed steaks on the gas grill, and having two super-nice bathrooms gave us each "our" space. This is a first class unit ands we will be repeat customers for sure. Communication with the owner was easy and informative and she went out of her way to accommodate us on short notice and checked in via phone message to ensure we got settled in. I am almost afraid to submit this because i feel like we discovered a little treasure here, and i want to keep it to myself, but in the spirit of being Minnesota Nice, i want others to enjoy this space too (just not when we plan to stay there). Enjoy- its a given!
Thank you so much for your detailed review. You experienced everything we hope all of our guests did or soon will. I am glad you were able to explore away from the property as well. Hope you come back again! Kathy and Pat
I really liked the layout and amenities of this property. I didn't expect it to be so nice for some reason. Everything was as-advertised, but it felt a lot nicer and bigger than the impression I had from the photos. Wish I would have booked a week!
It was a great escape to actual seclusion during CODVID-19 self-seclusion time. Sitting around a campfire, relaxing in a sauna, and going on nearby hikes with my family in the middle of nowhere is the best seclusion I can think up!
Perfectly located between Duluth (20 minutes) and Two Harbors (12 minutes). Very clean and well maintained. The owner was easy to get ahold of and responsive. We didn't use the sauna but it looked fun! Perfect spot for a chill week with our 2 year old and things to see and do even in the winter.
Last Minute North Shore Trip
We booked this stay when we had a last minute change in our vacation plans, and I’m so happy we did! The suite was perfect. Kathy was a wonderful host and had everything we needed. One of our favorite parts was the personal sauna! It warmed us up after chilly winter day exploring.

Nestled between little Sucker and Sucker rivers, the beauty is everywhere. Just a 15 minute drive from Duluth and 10 minutes to Two Harbors. Knife River is just 4 miles from the suites. This old fishing village has the famous Russ Kendall's smoked fish house and a family qwned candy shop that cannot be missed. There is also a marina. The McQuade safe harbor is a few miles away and has public access to Lake Superior. Tom's logging camp is a mile away. A great place to learn about the history of the lumberjacks and see some animals. A must see if you have children. The sucker river is one of the most beautiful rivers on the North Shore. It flies under the radar of visitors because it is not a state park. You'll find it a great place to explore and you might decide to jump in the many swimming holes it offers.
