About the property

Spectacular hilltop Chateau

An enchanting château in exquisite gardens, with yoga barn and large, secluded, heated pool.

First you come through the gate and see the lawns and the giant cedars of Lebanon, then the Pyrenean peaks on the southern horizon, and then the house, restful on its little plâteau, simple, elegant, perfect, with 18th-century proportions. Welcome to another world: one of art, beauty, serenity, fine museum pieces, and a dash of humour. The housekeeper is a treasure and can cater for you – though your kitchen, big, charming, classical but modern, would be an absolute pleasure to cook in. Salon, library, dining room and the grandest of bedrooms glow with French, English and Chinese antiques and the entire house is a work of art – there are beautiful parquet floors and magnificent plaster ceilings, a grand staircase and oriental designer stencilling. The rooms in the attic are more child-friendly and a perfect place for children to sleep, play or hide.

The gardener cleans the pool in the morning for you (open Apr/May to Oct, depending on weather)

About Owners

Art, food, antiques & garden lover. I love hiking inn the local mountains, swimming in mountain lakes, eating in nearby Spain, going on day trips to the Atlantic Coast, Biarritz & San Sebastian.

Owners purchased this chateau / country house in 1992

Why Owners chose Encausse-les-Thermes

As soon as we saw the Chateau, sitting ever so pretty on its hilltop, we were wooed by its incredible views and stunning situation near the majestic Pyrenees . The area is full of beauty, light and colours and the Chateau and its ancient stone barns are so full of history, quirks, original features and the best old-fashioned workmanship created. It just took our breath away.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The estate is surrounded by ancient stone walls and barns and it's therefore totally private. It has incredible views from absolutely every window and every corner. The garden is beautiful, large and private, filled with flowers, rare plants, a lake, fountains, colonnades, roses and amazing features and it's filled with birds, butterflies and all sorts of wildlife.

The salt water swimming pool is large & heated, the area around it is paved and it's surrounded by barns and a scalloped hedge and colourful mosaics with seating and barbeque areas.

There's a huge yoga barn overlooking the pool and a beautiful mosaic steam room and shower.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Chatelains,

Gosh, it's time to leave already! We've just spent the most incredible 2 weeks in your beautiful Chateau. Everything, absolutely everything, was just perfect! The view is breathtaking, the mountains majestic, the garden a work of art, the house luxurious and comfy at the same time, the facilities wonderful and the respect with which you renovated the Chateau keeping its original layout and preserving a piece of history does you credit.

Thank you for letting us stay and thank you to your wonderful staff. We are taking away wonderful photos and memories.

We'll be back again and again.

Perfection, this Chateau has it all!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a magical 2 weeks in this words can describe it - so peaceful, a world of its own..

The views are fantastic, the garden is just unbelievable and so private, the saltwater pool a delight, the local area stunning!

We went to the Sat market in nearby Aspet, visited St Bertrand Des Comminges and Lourdes, went sea bathing in Biarritz and even popped into carcassonne: a fantastic holiday.

The chateau is so comfortable and luxurious and it's obviously a loved and very well looked after home.

We recommend it very highly.

try it for yourself!

A dream holiday for the whole family.

  • 5 of 5

Our whole family spent 2 fantastic weeks in this luxurious chateau in September'14: the weather was fantastic, sunny and dry throughout, thus allowing us to make full use of the beautiful, heated pool, the gorgeous garden (one of the prettiest and most extensive we've ever visited), the croquet lawn, the yoga room, BBQ and the wonderful steam room. This is a true, comfortable, yet grand home with all mods con and hundreds of incredible period features: we couldn't have found a better property and a nicer location. Thank you to the wonderful owners for allowing us the pleasure to stay in their wonderful home.

Magnificent! Great class and stunning gardens

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 blissful weeks over Christmas and New Year: the Chateau is exquisite, full of charm, character, beautiful objects and class. A real gem in the foothills of the Pyrenees with commanding views of the mountains and the gently sloping valley below. The garden is worthy of RHS listing and the bedrooms are enormous, comfortable and breathtakingly decorated, whilst featuring the most beautiful parquet floors we have ever seen. We'll come back again for Summer so we'll be able to use the huge pool and see the hundreds of roses in bloom. Thank you.
