The Black Mountain Cedar Cabin

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this wonderful cabin for my birthday in early February, 2018. The cabin is very spacious and well laid out. We loved the porch and the privacy. Our furry little ones liked the yard and the porch. My only complaint was that I wanted to get snow and there was none, while we were there. Maybe next time. Hope to return again sometime. Thank you to Barbara and Tony for sharing their lively cabin with us.

Cozy cottage off the beaten path

  • 3 of 5

I will start by saying that for the price, this is one of the best vacation spots that you’ll find, Especially since they were dog friendly! It is a very enjoyable 40 min drive from downtown Asheville. However there is NO CELL SERVICE (not just no WiFi!) in at least a 5 mile radius surrounding the property, so trying to plan for and navigate our long trek into downtown Asheville was not an option. We couldn’t even plan where we would park when we got there, and given that it’s a 40 minute drive, we didn’t want to drive around aimlessly in the icy weather. On a happy note, the house is amazing and so cozy. The expansive screened-in porch overlooks a picturesque babbling brook alongside the cabin providing the most delightful sitting/grilling area where I could watch my dog explore the diverse landscape on the property. One more critique - NO COFFEE!!!! Fooled by the inviting display of a Coffee maker flanked by hearty coffee mugs on the kitchen counter and filters to boot - but no coffee anywhere, not even instant coffee! We were initially told there was a nearby convenience store with things of this sort, so (12 miles later), we were highly discouraged to find that they in fact only sold canned goods and beer. Sigh. Bottom line - great vacation home for the price, but best to be rented out with a few of your closest couples/friends for a trip spending most or all of your time on the property or in the nearby mountains. No need for cell service or downtown Asheville when you’ve got best friends, dogs, and a house built for a good time.

Owner's Response: First I will say we appreciate all our guests. But nowhere do i say we provide coffee. Also,I'm not sure which route they took but in 10 minutes or less I can get to Lake Lure to the little Rock Store. Also,if asked I let everyone know Verizon and USCELLULAR is the only cell service. We have never advertised WiFi. It was snowing and maybe that was the reason it took so long to get to Asheville. If you read our reviews no one has ever complained about COFFEE. Perhaps I will check into getting a few packages of COFFEE! I can't do anything about NO CELL SERVICE because AT&T refuses to put up towers in this area.

Cozy and perfectly situated near local attractions while still being private

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time spending our honeymoon and the Christmas holiday in this cabin. Tony and Barbara were very helpful and even had the cabin decorated for the holidays. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook several meals over the week we were there and everything was very comfortable. We’d love to come back again during the warmer months so we can better enjoy all the porch space and great outdoor setting of the cabin. A great place to stay for anyone looking for a restful time!
