Why Robert Cramer chose The Battery
Ideal escape from the the City, in the City, with the Ocean at your feet and a ships viewing gallery off the deck and through every window. On foggy days the Fog Horn is faintly audible from the Ft. Amherst Lighthouse. Recently restored interior with all the mod. cons. and very warm and cosy.
What makes this Bungalow unique
The only direct Oceanfront property on " The Narrows" in the Fort Amherst area of St.John's, the Provincial capitol and largest city in Newfoundland, with an incredible unobstructed view of both City, The Rooms Museum, the Cathedral, Signal Hill and the ICEBERG ALLEY of the North Atlantic Ocean.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Sitting on the deck every boat that comes in or out of St. John's harbour is literally 50 yards away. The view from this narrow part of the channel is spectacular, the house is warm and comfortable, and Robert's communication is excellent and his Screech is just as excellent! We had a wonderful time here and would stay here again in a heartbeat. Sorry that I have no constructive suggestions because everything was just perfect!
Loved the location!
The property provided an amazing view of the Battery and Signal Hill. A short walk to Ft. Amherst provided views of icebergs. The house was comfortable for our party of 3 (me, my daughter and my mother) and well equipped for cooking. Thanks, Robert, for a lovely stay.
A second visit
The best endorsement one might provide is to say you like the place so much you will come back again.....and then you actually do that! This was our 2nd consecutive year to Robert's cottage on Fort Amherst Rd. Once again, we thank you, Robert, for making this rare and special place available and a very big hug goes to Eva, the best manager ever.
IF GOING TO ST. JOHN'S, YOU MUST STAY HERE!!
This place is a real gem. Photos do not do it justice. The amazing span of cliffs directly across the narrows is overwhelming. You can see people inching along the pathways on the cliff face as well as the houses of the Battery perched on outcroppings and ledges. There is something magical about being tucked in bed at night while gazing through the picture window at the harbour lights. I enjoyed watching the maritime traffic passing through the narrows. There were all manner of boats from small fishing vessels to large tankers. And the sun seemed to chose it's sunrise right in the middle of the narrows! How great is that? I had not really planned to do any R&R while in St. John's but I couldn't help myself here at this cottage. The views were so beguiling that I spent a lot of time just gazing out the windows. The house itself is really cute and clean. The decor is very comfortable and so are the beds. It had all the necessary amenities that my mom and I could need. My mother has never been able to afford to go to St. John's so bringing her here was my gift to her. The biggest highlight of my trip was her enjoyment of this cottage.
Fabulous place. Exceeded our high expectations. Absolutely delightful to wake up and look out to see an ocean freighter passing a few hundred feet away. Great memories drinking coffee on the deck with a sunrise view of the narrows leading to the ocean, and sipping a glass of wine on the deck with a sunset view of St. John’s harbour. Great resturants, Raymond’s, Mallard Cottage, Gypsy Tea Room, Rocket Cafe for lunch and many others. Got “screeched in” at Christians Pub - same place Anthony Bourdain got screeched in last October. He ate at Raymond’s too. Highly recommended place to stay and visit.
One of the most amazing places we've ever stayed, anywhere!
If you go to St. John's, stay here! Not only is the cottage incredibly cozy and comfortable and set up for a great stay in a unique neighbourhood on the edge of a really fun city, the views are spellbinding. Waking up with a coffee on the deck looking over the harbour and the Atlantic Ocean through the narrows, or ending the day with a drink on the deck looking at the city lights, and then seeing massive ships pass by within talking distance of the crew — incredible! It's also a short walk to a beautiful lighthouse point, and from the deck, you're gazing up at Signal Hill across the water. We can't recommend Robert's cottage highly enough. We were a family of four, and it was perfect.
