About Nancy Palma

In 2006 I bought this little cottage in the heart of the Southside neighborhood. I have traveled extensively, and the one thing I have found out is that "it's nice to go away, but home is best". It's where you are most comfortable, where everything you need is right there, and as much as you like to visit elsewhere, it's always great to be back home. So, Welcome Home!

With those thoughts in mind I started HYH in GH to be the place you can call "home". I open my "home" to each guest I host, and many return because they have found a place to "hang their hat" and call "home".

The Palma's welcome you, Nancy & Jim

Nancy Palma purchased this apartment in 2006

Why Nancy Palma chose Western Michigan

Whenever friends or family would visit us in Michigan we would always include a trip to Grand Haven. The boardwalk, the beach, the cute shops on Washington. We loved showing off "The Lake", climbing the dunes and relaxing with a nice meal downtown.

When I saw this little house, I knew it was where I could express my heart.

What makes this apartment unique

Located right downtown where you can park your car and walk to everything! Cozy and comfortable, Hang Your Hat is the place you will return to year after year and call "home". Everything you would think to bring with you is already here, and perhaps more :)

Guestbook comments from the owner

From snowy cold Wisconsin, we arrived in snowy Grand Haven and our home for the week - Hang Your Hat. On our many hikes along the channel, and on the pier to the lighthouse we saw beautiful ice formations and the rugged beauty of the wind blown broken ice on the Lake. We enjoyed delicious meals ans service at Elegance of the Seasons, Kirby's, JW's, and Fricano's Pizza. We also had yummy desserts at the Baker's Wife and Culvers. We were fascinated by the heated streets and sidewalks in downtown Grand Haven - they were free of snow and ice. The rest of the town has snow packed sidewalks and streets, and snow piles of 6 feet plus on the curbs. Thank you, Nancy, we had a relaxing, fun time in the cozy, warm "Hang Your Hat" flat.

Nancy Hang Your Hat is a great place to stay. Nancy is very seeet and made sure we had everything we needed in advance. She is very accommodating and was very easy to communicate with. The Location is amazing right by downtown. You can walk very easily everywhere. The downstairs unit where we stayed had a lot of space. Highly recommmend you stay here.

The way a rental should be

  • 5 of 5

We rented the downstairs of Hang your Hat for the weekend. It was perfect. Plenty of space, clean & everything you need is there. Simple things like toilet paper, paper towels, towels, basic spices for cooking.

The location is great. Plenty of shops, restaurants & breweries within a block. We didn't drive all weekend.

Nancy was a wonderful host. I'm glad we got to meet her on our second day & she gave plenty of ideas & suggestions of what to do & where to go.

We'd love to consider coming back in the summer & maybe bring the kids.

Owner's Response: It is always my pleasure to introduce new guests to all that Grand Haven, and HYH in GH, have to offer. A stay at Hang Your Hat is always "all-inclusive"; no extra charge for cleaning, linens, or a security deposit. You are home! So, it also includes all paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, food wraps & baggies), soap (hand, laundry & dishwasher), coffee, tea, and sugar/creamer. You need only bring your personal items (toiletries, shampoo, there is a hair dryer) and beach towels. I was so happy that you found out how friendly our little city is when you met with the locals at Oddside Ales just two blocks away. That is GH & HYH; walkable, friendly, and everything you want in close proximity. I do hope you will return with your complete family and visit the Splash Pad, Imagination Station, and of course, our beautiful sugar sand beaches!

Every detail was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

The property owner has done a magnificent job making this rental feel like home! We were only there a couple of days, but never had to waste any time figuring out where things were or how things worked. Everything was made accessible and easy for us! The rental was spotless, beds were so comfortable. We loved being so close to the great restaurants and shops downtown, and only a short drive to the beach. We look forward to staying again!

Perfect place in Grand Haven

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the upper level of the cottage. It was very, very clean and had everything we needed. The size was perfect for my husband and I and our 2 teenage boys. The grill worked perfectly and we enjoyed having dinner outside on the balcony. The only thing you need to bring are clothes, toiletries and beach towels! It's in a perfect location in downtown Grand Haven. Everything is within walking distance. Also, Nancy the owner is wonderful and very helpful! Our family highly recommends Hang your Hat for a Grand Haven get away.

Everything You Could Need And MORE!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our extended stay at Top of the Hat! It's located in the heart of everything we love about Grand Haven; the shops, the food, the pier, all within a block or two. We cycled all around Tri-City area. Nancy went out of her way to insure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. A very spacious space with comfortable furnishings, even a washer and dryer! Top of the Hat has a kitchen like your home, right down to the garlic press! The grill and patio seating is an added bonus! We would defiantly make a return trip!
