There are no other houses in Ogunquit, Maine with these amenities especially one SO close to the ocean and town!!
Must see to believe, visit the website!!
I spent every summer of my life in Ogunquit, learned to swim in the Tidal River. Even though a lot has changed in Ogunquit since the 50's, it has retained its New England charm, and offers so much to do, a week is not really enough time to do it all!. I ran the house as a Bed and Breakfast for about 14 years, and now am renting the first two floors out by the week from June-Mid-September. It is also available as a Winter Rental from mid-September through May.
Rica Shepardson purchased this house in 1986
My Grandparents started coming to Ogunquit in 1930..In 1941 they purchased land close to the ocean they loved, and built a house in 1948 for their retirement. The house is called 'The Evergreens' after their previous home on the Tufts University campus. I built the Heritage next door to their house, where my Grandfather had his rock garden..his day lilies still bloom in front of the rock wall I built in 1986.
The Heritage offers 5 bedrooms, and 5 baths....yes, every uniquely decorated bedroom has its own private bath, AC, ceiling fan, television, VCR and DVD Player! On the first floor there is a Master bedroom, a large Living Room, large Kitchen/Dining Room with Jenn-Air gas grill and electric convection oven, as well as a refrigerator with outside water/ice dispenser, Laundry Room with HUGE Whirlpool Duet Washer/Dryer, an Office Area and a house-wide Wireless Internet Connection.
On the second floor, there are two large bedrooms on the ocean side of the house, separated by another kitchen...(yes, you heard me...a second kitchen) with a large booth seating area, then two more large bedrooms. Outside enjoy the huge outside deck, seating for 20, very quiet and private.
We have stayed there two years in a row and just LOVE th house...big bedrooms, two kitchens, room for adults and teens to be separate!! And we ALL had our own bath!!
After more than 20 years of staying in hotels in Ogunquit as an extended family, we finally convinced my mother (age 80) to try a rental home. She was worried that it wouldn't be clean and that we wouldn't feel like we were in the center of Ogunquit near the ocean. We stayed at the Heritage for a week and my mother is sold! First of all, the house totally met my mother's cleanliness standards (a major accomplishment)! There is plenty of room (5 bedrooms each with its own private bathroom) and a large kitchen, an upstairs 2nd kitchen (we sat at the table but didn't use for food) and a living room. Plus the small backyard is beautiful and has a nice deck. There is plenty of off street parking in front. Staying in the home allowed us to visit together much more in a relaxed way. Rica, the owner, is around a lot and easily reached by phone. There were a couple of minor issues that were addressed immediately. Rica was a great resource to us with advice about restaurants, biking paths, where to buy fresh produce, etc.). She makes improvements on the property every year. Location wise, it is a 2-3 block pleasant walk to Shore Drive which is in the "middle" of everything. We saw plenty of ocean and got to see another side of Ogunquit. Another reviewer commented about all of the notes about keeping the property clean. That is true but keeping the house clean benefits both the tenants and the landlord. We did receive a note afterward that we hadn't left the property quite right. NO money was withheld from our deposit (returned very promptly) and we will simply clarify with Rica when we arrive next summer (yes, after a great stay we immediately booked a week summer 2016). She is totally reasonable and we loved working with her. In summary, the Heritage is an awesome place to spend a week in beautiful Ogunquit. My mom didn't even bring up the idea of a hotel. Why would she?
While the location of the house is very good, our experience was negative. The house was not clean when we got there. Owner on site checking everything every day. Hot tub has not worked for 2+ yrs. false advertising. Owner demanded we recycled so she could get bottle refunds. Notes left everywhere for us to clean her house before leaving. New notes added daily. Ran out of hot water 3 days of 7. We did leave house cleaner then when we got there, yet she still found a way to keep more than half cleaning deposit. We have stayed at a lot of houses on vacation, this by far was the worse experience of all.
My family has stayed at the Heritage for 3 years now, and we just love it. Five bedrooms with each one having its own full bath is such a treat! There is a quiet/spacious deck in the back yard and a wonderful covered porch in the front. Plenty of space, we never feel as if we are on top of one another. We look forward to our stay each year.
Our family of twelve loved the Heritage! There were plenty of beds and bathrooms and the proximity to the town of Ogunquit, the beach and The Marginal Way was awesome! The house contained everything (and I mean everything!) we needed for our week there (except food, of course). We had excellent customer service from the owner who was "Johnny on the Spot". I would definitely recommend this property to a friend and would hope to stay there again should our family pick Ogunquit again for our family vacation. We polled the family and their favorite attraction was definitely The Marginal Way. So beautiful!
My family had a wonderful week in Ogunquit. Heritage House is very well furnished and equipped. It is obvious that the owner takes pride in her property and was helpful throughout our stay. I would gladly recommend this property to a friend.
