good book, and linens for your stay!
My husband and I take a week every year to get away and unwind. This was the perfect place. Every sunrise over the lake was spectacular and the sunsets just as beautiful. The outside fireplace was used every night. We spent most of our time right there. The peacefulness of the area was so relaxing, I didn't need anything else. Every day we sat on the dock feeding a school of baby Blue Gill and swimming off the end of the dock. The lake was warm and so clear you could see the small fish swimming around you. Every year we choose a different place but we will be visiting this one again. Thank you Beth, we loved our stay.
I stayed here with my wife and infant daughter to get away from the rat race for a week. Wow, what a great week! The location of the cottage is a perfect jumping off point for exploring the Finger Lakes. There were wineries, breweries, cheeseries, towns, and museums to explore as well as beautiful state parks with good hiking, swimming, and tranquility. We hiked beneath a waterfall and enjoyed a tasty bottle of wine and block of freshly made cheese.
There are other cottages nearby but there is enough space that people aren't right on top of one another. The cottage has a private dock where my wife would drink her coffee while watching the sun rise over Cayuga Lake.
The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and they basically just left us alone after we met the first day. I was able to prepare meals in the cottage kitchen and on the charcoal grill that was provided.
I can't wait to go back!
This was our 3rd consecutive year taking our vacation week in the Finger Lakes region. We found this property a few years ago on the Vacation Rentals website.
First year up was in August, 2011. A peaceful and relaxing cottage on the lake, just as advertised. We fell in love with the place. The owners have always been very gracious and helpful with anything that we've needed. Very good recommendations for things to do, places to eat and anything else you might need to know about the area. It's a good place to establish a base for doing daily trips to the other lakes and attractions in the area. Personally, we enjoy the many wineries in the region. Dining suggestions would be Wolffy's, O'Malley's, and Dewey's 3rd Ward Tavern for local dining. Or, we sometimes cook on the charcoal grill provided and dine on our own private dock! A little further away, Doug's Fish Fry and Blue Water Grill in Skaneateles are excellent choices as well. Finally, you are within easy walking distance from Cayuga Lake State Park, where you can take advantage of the boat launch and swimming areas. Already looking forward to 2014 Vacation in the Finger Lakes!!!
we had the most wonderful week. The cottage is just the right size, very close to the great wine trail. Beth is one of the nicest people we ever rented from. Anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation this is the place to go. We would not hesitate to go back.
After exchanging a few pleasant emails with the owner (Beth), we rented the cottage for a week in late June. We had some hesitation about trailering our boat up for the week but we were really glad that we did. The cottage has it's own dock that is walking distance from the ramp in the state park. We left the boat in the water at the cottage dock and used it all week. The area is not commercialized which makes it very pleasant. The review written by the honeymooning couple from 2009 really describes the scene well. Cozy, not cramped, DeerHead Restaraunt a half block away (we ate dinner there a couple times and cooked on the grill at the cabin for several meals), the state park is within walking distance, a General Store is 1/2 mile down the street where you can get light supplies like milk, bread, fishing hooks, ice cream, etc., and we used the cabin's outside fireplace almost every night looking out over the lake with a glass of wine. Between the boating on the lake, the wine tasting at the many local vineyards, the weather, and the people, our vacation was everything we hoped for.
For our July honeymoon, we rented this adorable cottage on the lake. It was perfect for a newlywed couple -- it was small, but not cramped; cozy, but not stuffy. We enjoyed sitting on the dock to watch the sunrise, cooking lobster in the kitchen, floating out in the lake on the paddle boat, and walking to dinner at the Deerhead Inn.
The cottage is literally right off the Cayuga Wine Trail, making it the perfect location for our wine tastings. Grocery shopping was a little far -- we had to drive 20 minutes to Aurora, but we only had to make one trip at the beginning of our stay. The area is quiet and removed from traffic and noise, but blissfully so.
The cottage was clean and well-maintained. Beth came over our first night to make sure we had settled in, but after that, left us in marital bliss. Cleaning after our stay was simple, and the cottage being so small, cleanup took no more than an hour total.
For those of you with kids, or sense of childish adventure (my husband), the Darien Lake amusement park is just a couple of hours away!
Since our stay, we've recommended this vacation, and this particular rental to our friends, and hope to come back again soon!!
