Peaceful Retreat - but close to everything

  • 4 of 5

This house is in a great location. It's on a side road in a wooded area which makes it very peaceful and incredibly dark at night (perfect for star gazing) - but it's also very close to the Taconic Parkway, Rhinebeck, Red Hook and lots of other quaint little towns. Plenty of things to do in the area and great casual places to eat (Matchbox, Homespun, Everyday Diner). Other than breakfast (cereal), we did not eat in the house so I can't say how well stocked it is for cooking, but it did seem like there were lots of different items in the kitchen. The main living area is open, but there is an L shape to it so if you want to watch TV you have your own little area to do so. Not a lot of stations, but there are plenty of DVD movies for children in the cabinet and the internet worked great. The huge windows in the living room kept the place nice and bright even on a cloudy day. There is a big deck on the back of the house which would be great for relaxing with a good book. The outside area is kept natural which fits in perfectly with the house. Loved all the different plants and trees. Overall, a nice place to stay at a reasonable price. A fenced yard would make this place perfect (but if you don't have a dog, it's fine the way it is).

Relaxing, beautiful home with a warm feel and all the comforts of your own home

  • 5 of 5

This was our first home rental and could not have been more perfect. We were looking for a quiet place with just enough nature and privacy to unplug and rest a few days. The owners provided us with the things we needed well in advance of our stay. They were also easy to get in touch with when we had a question about the property. While we were there, we went for nice walks, sat on the deck with coffee gazing at the woods and went tech free for a bit. When we needed the internet we didn't have any problems though. The house is fully equipped with an incredibly lovely kitchen. There are charming antiques in every room. With the spiral staircase and open loft with windows ceiling to floor the house feels cozy and roomy at the same time. We attended a nearby retreat at Omega Institute and were really happy they didn't have a room for us, or we would not have gotten to enjoy this home. We would recommend this to families or couples or anyone and would make the trip back for sure. Thank you for an amazing stay.

Great place in the Hudson Valley

  • 4 of 5

The house is in a great location for exploring many attractions of the Hudson Valley. From the towns (Rhinebeck, Red Hook, New Paltz, Hyde Park, etc) to the attractions (FDR home, Vanderbilt Mansion, Walkway over the Hudson, etc) to shopping (grocery stores, etc) the place is only a short drive away. The house itself is very nice. The 20 foot windows overlooking the wooded lot and the fireplace make the living room a perfect spot for relaxing and taking in the views. The sitting room has a nice flat screen TV with a decent selection of channels - not that you'll be watching much TV. Having a decent wifi connection is another plus. Mark communicated promptly and everything was clean and ready for our arrival. The kitchen is well-stocked with the staples and we cooked in several nights. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, too. Don't miss Flatiron in Red Hook for an excellent meal.

Wonderful relaxing home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home. I agree with other reviewers that the pictures insufficiently display the quality of the home. We chose this place largely because it is relatively secluded in the summer (lots of tree protection from the neighbors) has a yard and deck for the kids and dog and is near family for us, but we got so much more.

It is a beautiful home with a wall of windows allowing you to really enjoy the outdoor landscape. The house was impeccably clean on arrival and the central a/c kept us very comfortable even in the heat of July and August. Our kids enjoyed biking on the dirt and gravel drive and our dog enjoyed playing fetch in the yard. We cooked every day and found the kitchen was well equipped with everything but extensive baking pans, the bedrooms had plenty of clean pillows linens and blankets, and towels were also plentiful. Laundry was in the basement (also very neat and clean). Trips to Rhinebeck, Red Hook and the farmers market in Milan were all around 15-20 minutes. Plenty to do and enjoy!

The owner, Mark, was great. We didn't have a lot of contact with him as we needed for nothing during our stay- he even has 2 large well organized binders with information about the area for guests- but the contact we did have before and after was beyond professional. I can't recommend this home highly enough!

ps- if you are interested in mindfulness or meditation, consider visiting the Quaker meeting on Sunday mornings on Bulls Head Road right off the Taconic. You'll pass their building when you arrive. My husband visited and found it to be a very peaceful, centering time with a wonderful group of people.
