Beautiful rural, garden setting, very comfortable, clean and well maintained.
Had everything we needed. BBQ, kitchenette with fridge, toaster oven, microwave, rice cooker & more!
Thank you Char for the welcome basket: bananas, avocados, coffee, citrus & macadamia nuts!
Char and Chris were gracious hosts. They kept us stocked with homegrown fruit for the entire visit. The one-bedroom rental was clean and maintained. The rental may not be on the beach but it is within 10 minutes of some of the nicest beaches on the North Shore. After a couple days it was easy to pick out the quiet beaches, that weren't frequented by the tourist vans, snorkelers, and surf lesson crowds. When in doubt, check with the life guards about surf conditions and swimming. Hiking trails, from easy to difficult, are within a 5-20 minute drive. Historic Haleiwa town provides several dining options, kayak rentals, stand-up board rentals and plenty of shopping. Shrimp, tacos and local cuisine is served "beachside" by lunch trucks, just across the highway from Pupukea Park.
While my original preference was to be "next" to the beach, this lodging served us well. It's off the beaten path and highway, parking is always available and the birds and wildlife are a pleasure to wake up with, when compared to being one-block off the highway. Or in a high rise on Wakiki. The summer weather was warm and humid but the trades usually cooled things down. A couple tropical storms swept thru but they were short-lived and kept the surf up.
I would recommend the North Shore experience to anyone who has done the Honolulu & Wakiki scene. The pace of life here is much more enjoyable.
We had a very good time here. The property was as described. Char and Chris were very attentive to our needs and I would recommend this property. We got married on the beach the night we arrived and found chilled champagne upon our return. Char's home grown fruit/goody basket was great. Just what we wanted after the hubbub of Waikiki.
You need a car to enjoy the nearby attractions. Ola's and Jameson's by the sea were very good for the fresh fish. Snorkeling was a little tough due to the fall winds stirring up the sea. But, within 20 minutes, the North Shore was ours to enjoy. If you have not done the North Shore, you are missing a great HI vacation. Good choice for couples who are looking for quiet and activities. :)
