We live in Charleston, SC and were desperately looking for a place to evacuate from Hurricane Matthew with our dogs. The owner responded quickly and was so great to us and quickly got us set up. We got there at night and thought it was really nice. The next morning we woke up and realized what a beautiful and serene paradise this place was. We stayed 3 nights and would have love to have stayed forever. It was quiet, peaceful, clean, fun, and our furbabies loved it. My daughter and husband fished, dogs swam and we even kayaked. We will definitely go back and it was so nice to relax while trying not to worry about what was happening back home. This place is definitely an undiscovered jewel.
This cabin is located on a tributary arm of Mountain Island Lake, an impounded portion of the Catawba River. The dock and kayaks are a fabulous amenity. The deck overlooks the lake. The weather on Thanksgiving was fabulous and we took the kayaks out for a spin. This place is close to Charlotte and we hit the Art museums there one day, and also went to Kings Mountain National Park which is only about an hour away. All the arrangements worked out fine, and communication was great! Thanks to Shawn for a wonderful vacation.
We absolutely loved it and are making plans for next year
My husband & I were looking for a place to stay for a long weekend & I am so glad that we were able to find this place! We really lucked out to find this cabin which allows pets at the owner's discretion. Now sometimes when you hear "pets allowed" you might wonder how clean the place is. I know I did.(Even though I travel with my laid back pug, there are larger, more hyper dogs out there & they can wreck havoc on a place if they want to.) But I was concerned for nothing - the cabin was spotlessly clean and MUCH better than a hotel for the same price. And it's a beautiful wood cabin on a lake w/ a dock, kayaks & a rowboat. And it has nice fireplace. And it has a stocked kitchen. And it has a nice deck surrounded by huge trees and nice grill down below. I could go on, but there's a description on the listing for that. : )
What's also really nice is that the cabin is located less than 15 minutes away from a nature center, several hiking trails & a really neat raptor center (where they help rehabilitate & care for hurt birds like owls, hawks, etc.)
One little thing that was a little extra that we weren't expecting was the stocked kitchen. Sure utensils, pots and pans, blender - I expected that from the listing. But they had some extra basics like salt & pepper, olive oil, syrup for breakfast, coffee, napkins and coffee filters. I'm not sure if all of that is there all the time, but I would check and see what they have before heading out for groceries. We made a quick stop because we forgot s&p and coffee filters, but if we would've known that was there, we wouldn't have to stop. That being said, there is a Family Dollar pretty close. So if you forget anything, that is very convenient. Like T.P. There was only half a roll in each bathroom when we got there and no extras in any cabinets that we could find, so just some friendly advice - just check that before you make your shopping trip. I knew that sheets weren't provided so we did bring our own. I also brought towels just in case, but there was no need for that. There were plenty of towels.
It was the perfect getaway, but since there's an extra bedroom with bunk beds, it would also be perfect for a family vacation. Oh, & not that it mattered to us, but there wasn't an Xbox that we could find. Lots of games but we couldn't find the system. (We stayed in one night & thought it might be fun to play, but we watched movie instead and that was fun too). Would stay again and definitely recommend!
The most serene and relaxing escape I've had since leaving Active Duty. My Lab and I sat out on the Doc all day even in the rain, just taking in the quiet beauty. My daughter and I were able to spend time fishing and kayaking. There couldn't have been a more perfect place on the lake to do that.
Mountain Island lake is a hidden gem in Charlotte. As the water
supply for Charlotte, and home to multiple nature preserves, it
enjoys extra vigilance in keeping it clean. It is quieter and closer
to the city than any other lake in Charlotte yet still has 62 miles
of waterfront for fishing and boating activities (ski, kayak, sail,
jet-ski). It has been historically a fisherman's dream (A boat slip
is included with the rental).
