This is a quiet, beautiful, no-smoking, log home on Mountain Island
Lake (62 miles of shoreline) with a breathtaking view of the water
and Latta Plantation nature preserve.
This home, built in 2002, has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a front
family/dining room looking out over the water, and a fully stocked
kitchen. The deck overlooks the water
and dock for your boat.
Just a short drive from downtown Charlotte and the races.
The local area has restaurants and activities for your pleasure.
I stayed at this cabin while in the Charlotte area for a week long, Certification Class. After days of long classes, it was nice to be staying somewhere with peaceful, serene surroundings. I had a lot of homework and studying to do, so the quietness was welcomed. Not to mention, the price was within reach of a motel room, so why wouldn't you stay somewhere like this?
The kitchen is well equipped and the home is tidy and clean. Having read the reviews prior to going, I was aware that there are no bed linens provided. There are plenty of towels tho. I didn't locate any dish towels or bath clothes tho, so just plan ahead and you'll be glad you did. The front and back porches are very nice for lounging around in the evening, and waking up in the morning. There's plenty of furniture and the bed I slept on(upstairs) was firm and I had no problem sleeping....the long days may have helped in that area too. The cabin is a wooden A-frame, so in the evening time as the temperatures were dropping, it would creak a little and can make you wonder if somebody is in the house with you. After the first night tho, and once I realized I was alone(lol), it wasn't a big deal...it is a wooden cabin, so expanding and contracting is normal I would think. The whole community is very quiet and not a lot of traffic. The lake is pretty to look at...too cold for swimming, so I can't elaborate on how it feels. The drive into town everyday for class, was not too bad either. About 15 minutes from where my class was, so it was very convenient.
If you're looking for a nice cabin, close to Charlotte, that's in the same price range as a nice hotel room, I'd recommend staying at this cabin. Plus, you have peace and serenity, instead of people running the halls all night. Shawn(the owner) is very nice and was helpful with anything I needed, which wasn't anything really. The cabin was set up with what I needed and everything functioned as designed, so I didn't really need him during the week. I would recommend this cabin and would stay there again if the need arises.
This house on the lake is everything someone would want in a getaway! The warm wood adorning it from floor to ceiling gives off such warmth and peace. The fireplace made of stone was the centerpiece of the weekend! The rain falling on the tin roof was the icing on the cake!
The kitchen was well equipped. The two bathrooms were very well kept and modern. The loft bedroom was warm and cozy. There were plenty of pillows and blankets. There were also towels, though I brought my own. Bed linens (sheets and pillow cases) were not provided.
15 minutes to the mall, if you're looking for a shopping day or a dinner out. 20 minutes to the airport.... but hidden from the hustle and bustle of the city. Absolutely perfect!
We stayed over NYE's with our dog and thought the cabin was perfect! Very, very clean and equipped with everything needed to make a meal. Our dog had fun meeting other neighboring dogs and playing on the dock. Our purpose for the trip was to see The Avett Bros. in Charlotte on NYE's and the cabin was close enough to the city - yet far away enough to get the peace and quiet of the country. Would rent this cabin again if in the area.
We were in town for family Christmas functions, and actually got around 6-7" of snow the first night.. it was great! The cabin was very nice and accommodating and we would definitely recommend! 2 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs. Everyone had a blast! Thank you!
We live in Charleston, SC and were desperately looking for a place to evacuate from Hurricane Matthew with our dogs. The owner responded quickly and was so great to us and quickly got us set up. We got there at night and thought it was really nice. The next morning we woke up and realized what a beautiful and serene paradise this place was. We stayed 3 nights and would have love to have stayed forever. It was quiet, peaceful, clean, fun, and our furbabies loved it. My daughter and husband fished, dogs swam and we even kayaked. We will definitely go back and it was so nice to relax while trying not to worry about what was happening back home. This place is definitely an undiscovered jewel.
This cabin is located on a tributary arm of Mountain Island Lake, an impounded portion of the Catawba River. The dock and kayaks are a fabulous amenity. The deck overlooks the lake. The weather on Thanksgiving was fabulous and we took the kayaks out for a spin. This place is close to Charlotte and we hit the Art museums there one day, and also went to Kings Mountain National Park which is only about an hour away. All the arrangements worked out fine, and communication was great! Thanks to Shawn for a wonderful vacation.
Mountain Island lake is a hidden gem in Charlotte. As the water
supply for Charlotte, and home to multiple nature preserves, it
enjoys extra vigilance in keeping it clean. It is quieter and closer
to the city than any other lake in Charlotte yet still has 62 miles
of waterfront for fishing and boating activities (ski, kayak, sail,
jet-ski). It has been historically a fisherman's dream (A boat slip
is included with the rental).
